Lullaby

'What?! Her head fell off! Incredible! Did Uzui just cut off her head?!'

Tanjiro thought in awe as he looked with his mouth opened agape at Daki sitting in the floor holding her own severed head in her lap.

Uzui suddenly approached his face, taking him off his thoughts, “Hey, this fight isn't over, do something about your demon sister!”

After he said this, Nezuko, who was still being held tightly by her brother, started to snarl loudly.

“Graaaaaaaah!”

“Nezuko!”

“Graaaaaaaaaa”

“I don't need a snarling little brag to worry about while I'm in battle, sing her a quaint country lullaby or some other boring thing.”

In response, Nezuko let out an even louder snarl, jumping back and throwing herself and her brother through the window, the two harshly falling against the ground outside the house.

Y/N took a step to go after them, but was stopped thanks to a soft voice speaking to her : “Y-Y/N, don't go-”

She silently looked back at Daki, who wasn't throwing a tantrum like she was supposed to in the manga and instead was just crying silently, “Don't leave me! Don't go! Don't go!”

“…. I'm sorry. I need to help my friends. You hurt them.”

“N-no! I was just-”

Nezuko!”

Tanjiro faint scream from outside made Y/N turn away from her, jumping outside to go to their encounter.

“Graaaah! Graaaaaaah!”

'It's no use, I'm not getting through her at all!'

Tanjiro thought in a panic, his sister still trashing in his arms like a wild animal.

“Can't you sing a lullaby for her, didn't Uzui told you that you could do so?”

Y/N commented as she approached the two, frowning a bit after she looked closer at Tanjiro's state.

Honestly, a hopeful part of her thought that Daki might have changed a bit, but seeing how much she beat the poor boy, she will have to accept that maybe there's no redemption for her.... but who knows.

“I'm not- Ugh- I'm not sure!” Tanjiro responds back, still struggling to hold his sister.

'Why are you not singing? You're already supposed to remember the lullaby your mother used to sang, why? Things continue to change, events that were supposed to be important keep not happening, if I had stayed with Daki, then what would happen to him? Would he be unable to hold Nezuko, and she would end up killing him?'

Though this was definitely not the best moment for having a breakdown, Y/N couldn't help it, she couldn't help being worried at the continuous changes.

Mostly because, besides Kyojuro death, almost all the other changes she made were bad, thankfully until now nothing essential for the plot was changed, but how long it will be like that? How long it will take for a critical event to be destroyed and then cause the ending of the humanity?

The weight of not only having to hold the future of her beloved friends, but all other humans in this world was in her back. How could she not break from this pressure?

It's different this time, Ether isn't here to help her like always, for the first time in so long, she was alone.

…alone…

….alone?

Funny word….you know, when she was younger, Yoriichi rarely talked about his family to her, but when he did, she noticed that he was a very lonely person.

But even so, he was an incredible person. Yeah, that's what he was. Maybe things would have been better if he was the one who was blessed with multiple reincarnations instead of her.

'Wait! This isn't time to be drowning in depression or to have nostalgic thoughts! I have to help!

If Tanjiro isn't going to take action, then I-'

“… Dark sky, moonlight…”

You couldn't say that her voice was the prettiest around. In fact, the way that she was singing was extremely shaky and low thanks to her awkwardness.

But, as awkward and imperfect as it sounded, it still had…. Something. There was something special about it.

Maybe it was the situation. Perhaps it was the song.
Potentially, it was the way that her eyes were glassy, like she wasn't seeing the two in front of her.

“Night veil, come tuck me in…”

Y/N doesn't know many lullabies. In fact, that's the only one she knows.

“Go away… Go away, blue sky…”

Because Yoriichi sang it to her when she was dying in her first life.

It was painful. Her body being eaten from inside out, she remembered the way that she couldn't breathe like her lungs were filled with water, and the way that even though her eyes were open, she couldn't see anything besides a blurred red figure. Yoriichi.

“Go…go to the end of the world”

But......his attempt at making her feel better made her happy, though he didn't seem to have a talent for singing.

Its kind of funny how Kokushibou was frustrated at the way that he could do everything perfectly, when in fact, the one thing that he couldn't do was sing.

Y/N caressed Nezuko's cheek while she sang, her pink eyes slowly closing as she started to snuggle in her brother lap.

“…and come, night from beyond.”

Tanjiro didn't know how to react, even though you looked so pretty in his eyes right now, the incredibly heavy smell of sadness emanating from you told him that he should probably not ask questions.

“…she's asleep.” He commented to break the ice, still a bit dumbfounded.

Y/N looked back at him, her sad smell now gone as she softly smiled. “Yeah. She's deep asleep.”

“Yeah…”

He responded back, still staring at her, in response, she just tilted her head, her soft smile turning into a confused one.

“Ah, sorry!” He suddenly jumped when he realized that he was staring at her for too long, hurriedly putting his asleep sister in the box and looking back at the house where they left Uzui alone.

“Uzui….” He whispered to himself with a concerned look.

Meanwhile, as the sound hashira tried to turn to leave, a scream stopped him. “Hold on a minute! Where do you think you're going?!”

He looked back to stare at Daki, who was still sitting in the ground holding her own severed head. “I can't believe you cut off my head! You won't get away with this!”

In response, Uzui responded to her while deadpanning, “Are you still whining? You bore me, so die already.”

“Get over yourself! Also, why'd you say that I'm not an upper-ranker?”

“Because you're not an upper-rank demon.”

“I'm upper-rank 6!”

“Yeah? Then why is your head cut off? You're clearly not strong enough. Has your brain dripped out too?”

“I've never lost in any battle! Not once! I earned my upper rank!"

“Clearly, you lost today.”

“I'm upper-rank 6! I'm really strong! But I'm gonna keep getting stronger!”

“Not very convincing.”

“WAAAAAAAAAAH!” She started to wail loudly, Uzui stared at the demon girl in complete shock. “It's true! I really am upper rank 6! I even have a number on my eye and everything! Because I'm so amazing!”

'Seriously? She's crying like a baby! I cut off her head, but her body isn't crumbling!'

“She- She also left! It's all you ugly guys fault! I hate all of you! Give my plaything back!”

'Plaything? Is she referring to Y/N? How long is she going to keep babbling?”

She suddenly punched the floor. “Die! Die! Everybody die! WAAAAAAAAH! WAAAAAAAH! He cut off my head! Gyutaro, save me!”

In response, something, no, someone started to crawl out from her back, Uzui quickly went to attack the two, but they were gone.

He looked in shock to see the new rival now in the corner, holding Daki's head and attaching it back to her neck. “Crying won't help, you've gone and lost your head, you should pin it to your shoulders.”

'I took her head off, but she isn't dying, and that one came out of her back, who is he?! His reflexes are incredible!'

Ignoring Uzui presence, Gyutarou started to gently rub Daki's part of the face Nezuko previously burned. “Oh no, your face is burned, and you were so cute, when you have an asset like that, you have to protect it.”

Uzui didn't waste time and once again tried to attack the two as he jumped in their direction, however, Gyutarou was quick to retaliate as he made a cut through his head with his scythe, that he luckily managed to block.

“Wow….you're pretty good, you blocked my attack, and I was really trying to kill you, you're good….yeah, definitely good.”

Gyutarou commented, now standing behind him.

Uzui just stared back at the demon in shock, his previous attack had cut his headband, making the rocks attached to it fall to the floor, the sound of little pebbles hitting against the wood was the only thing you could hear in this tense atmosphere.

The real fight is about to start.
