They went inside and JJ sat on a barstool. Kie went in the kitchen and got him a glass of water

"Oh, thank you" JJ said and took a sip

She smiled and went back into the kitchen, getting a wet rag and an ice pack.

"Kie, it's alright, I don't need-"

"Just put it on your eye" kie tilted her head and he easily caved in.

She began wiping the blood off of his busted lip gently

"You know, I've never actually seen him hit you before" Kie said sadly, as she continued wiping away the blood "I don't understand how he does that to his own kid"

For some reason this made him feel Like he was finally seen. Someone finally knew the extent of the abuse.

However, JJ said nothing

She got a q-tip and started applying a disinfectant ointment on his cuts

"Dang I'm gettin princess treatment over here" JJ joked and she smiled

"No, this is just what your supposed to do when you get hurt" Kie said "believe it or not, water and electrical tape don't kill germs"

"Never caused me any problems" JJ shrugged and Kie chuckled.

"It's not your fault you know" Kie said breaking the silence in the room "you don't have to feel bad for something your dad did 20 years ago"

He was always amazed at how she knew exactly what he was feeling and thinking in times like these.

He looked up at her and smiled

"I know" he said, even though he might have still felt a little bad

"Let me see your eye" she said softly and he moved the ice pack away, revealing a gash on his upper cheek.

She wiped the blood away and started putting ointment on it as well, when her parents finally came home and walked inside.

"What's going on?" Mike asked concerned

JJ couldn't help but get a little upset again after seeing her mom. He couldn't stand the thought of his dad touching her.

"We went to his dads today" kie responded, knowing that was the only explanation necessary

He looked up and made sorry eyes at her mother who looked at him with horror.

Anna went over to JJ to look at all the cuts and bruises on his face like a concerned mother.

"I'm so sorry" he said, grabbing her hand briefly and looking up at her.

She instantly looked over at Mike. They both got a feeling that he had found out.

She looked back at JJ who's eyes were still filled with sorrow and she froze. She wasn't sure what to say to him.

"What happened?" Mike asked, stepping in for his wife "why did you two go over there?"

"We just wanted to ask if he told anyone" Kie said as she got a small bandaid ready to put on his cheek.

"Okay then how did that happen?" Mike asked, gesturing at JJ

"Kie- i don't need a band aid-" JJ mumbled, putting his hand out to block it

"JJ, move your hand" she said and he unwantingly listened

"What do you think happened?" Kie asked, responding to her father's previous question

"Right" Mike sighed

He looked at Anna who almost looked as if she was going to cry.

"We'll be right back" Mike said, taking Anna to there room so they could talk "stay here"

"Did you see your mom?" JJ whispered "you could see it on her face, she knows we know something. Which means there's something to know"

"It's okay" Kie said, putting the ice pack back on his eyes "we'll talk to her"

"He's a piece of shit" he whispered as he put his head down on the counter

"I know" Kie sympathized as she closed the box of bandaids

"I hate him" he mumbled

"I know" she said again and put her hand on his cheek and kissed his forehead gently

Her parents later came back out and decided it was time to tell them what really happened.

JJ stayed on the barstool and Anna sat in the one next to him. Kie leaned on the counter next to JJ and Mike stood across from them on the other side of the island

"What did your dad say?" Mike asked

"Well, we asked him if he told anyone yet, and he said no" JJ explained "then.. I asked him what you said to him."

"Yeah, but.. he didn't really give us an answer" Kie added "he just started telling us about.. something that happened"

Anna looked at Mike and took a deep breath

"Okay, So, you might have heard about.. how we used to have a... thing or whatever you would call it" Anna said, trying her best to explain it without giving to many details

Kie and JJ nodded

"He said that you told him you were.. uhm" JJ said nervously and looked back at Kie for help

"Yeah" Anna smiled painfully

"She wasn't" Mike stepped in "but she thought she was."

"So it wasn't a lie" JJ confirmed, loosing any and all hope he ever had for his dad

"No" Anna replied "but your dad.. he really thought it was."

JJ nodded as he listened

"So, he made me buy another test and take it with him there.. and it came back negative that time" Anna explained "and he thought I just made the whole thing up, when really the first test I took was just wrong"

"When he thought you were lying.." JJ started "did he.. uhm. He said y'all got into an argument?"

"Yeah" Anna said, knowing what he was really trying to ask

"Did he ever.."

"Well, your father was always known to have a bit of a temper, but that's all was really" Anna explained "nothing serious"

He looked back at Kie. Something about her story and the way she was talking, just made it feel like something was off.

JJ caught Mike looking at Anna as if he was unsure of the situation as well.  Mike looked over and made eye contact with him, and quickly looked away.

"Nothing else happened?" Kie asked

"Nope, that was all really" Anna fake smiled

Kie and JJ were both still a little suspicious. He knew his dad wouldn't have just got in a argument over that. He would have hit her. Things were not adding up.
