Dreams fear of toasters

They're evil

Lol what's your favourite word in the english language? Mine's 'Flabbergasted' which means great astonishment.

"BROTHER! HELP ME!" Dream cried out as he rushed towards Nightmare with a terrified expression. Nightmare's eyes widened slightly as he saw his brother running towards him. Dream hid behind him, cowering and whimpering as his brother summoned a bone to protect the two from anything dangerous.

"Dream, what is it? Are you okay?" Nightmare asked, a hint of worry in his voice.

Dream sniffled, shaking slightly.

"T-The toaster keeps giving me evil glares..."

Nightmare stayed silent for a few seconds before sighing in irritation yet relief, making the bone he had summoned dissipate into thin air.

"Dream. How many times do I have to tell you- The toaster is not evil and it's not going to kill you."

Dream shook his head, coming out from his hiding place behind his brother and turning to face him.

"Yes it is! It just... stares at me... IT'S WATCHING ME BROTHER! IT'S PLANNING MY DEATH!" He argued, almost in tears.

Nightmare groaned in irritation, forcefully grabbing Dream's... shoulders so that he would look at him.

"Dream. The toaster is an inanimate object. It cannot physically harm you in anyway unless you put a fork in it or any other metal object - or, y'know, if you drop it on your foot."

"I DON'T HAVE A FOOT."

"You know what I mean." Nightmare huffed.

Dream whined slightly, too scared to re-enter the kitchen.

"Look, how about I come in  the kitchen with you and... 'prevent' it from killing you?" Nightmare suggested, tired of hearing his brother moan about the toaster. Dream smiled and nodded in agreement, clearly liking the idea.

"Yes! You can protect me from the toaster and its evil ways!"

"The toaster is not evil."

"Then why does it want to kill me?" Dream quizzed, glaring slightly.

"It doesn't."

"It does!"

Nightmare knew it would be pointless to argue with him so he instead simply sighed in exasperation, heading towards the kitchen with his brother trailing behind.

Once the two had entered the kitchen, Dream pointed timidly to where the toaster was located, proceeding to hide behind Nightmare once again.

"Okay. I'll stand by the toaster while you do whatever you came in here to do. Sound good?"

Dream nodded, watching his brother step towards the toaster and stand by it.

"Don't let it move a muscle." Dream asserted.

"... I'm sure the toaster won't move a muscle while I'm here guarding it." Nightmare mumbled. "Especially since they don't have muscles..." He added almost inaudibly.

Dream took a death breath before edging towards their fridge, pulling out an apple smoothie.

"Is that all you came in here for..?"

"Yes."

"...Get me one too."

Dream nodded, taking another apple smoothie from out of the fridge. Dream closed the fridge door and turned around to face his brother, yelping in surprise and dropping both smoothies at what he saw.

"N-Nightmare! The toaster..!"

Nightmare furrowed his non-existant eyebrows, turning to the toaster and jumping back in surprise.

The toaster was aggressively trembling and chuntering, as if it had been angered by something.

"W-WHAT THE HELL..?" Nightmare cried out is bewilderment and dread.

"IT'S GOING TO KILL US!" Dream wailed, cowering in fear. Nightmare stood in shock for a good five seconds before regaining his composure and activating his telekinetic power to lift the possessed toaster and gracefully launch it out through a window, shattering the glass in doing so.

"I-It's gone now, Dream. You're safe." Nightmare stated, still flabbergasted by the events.

Dream tentatively looked up, glancing around before taking a few deep breaths.

"I t-told you they were evil!"

"The toaster must've been possessed, Dream... Most toasters I've seen don't do that."

"Oh heck, are house is haunted by mournful spirits that want to kill us!"

"No it's not - not anymore, at least."

"NOT ANYMORE?" Dream cried out.

"Even if it is still haunted by some kind of spirit, I'll protect you from it." Nightmare vowed with a confident tone.

Dream continued to take breaths to calm himself down before faintly smiling at his brother.

"Thank you, Nightmare. You really are the best brother ever!" Dream cheered, running suddenly towards his brother and hugging him. Nightmare's eye-sockets widened and he stammered awkwardly, not used to this kind of affection. He wasn't so fond of physical contact however this time he decided to let it slip and hesitantly hugged his brother back in return.

"Y-You're... welcome." He muttered, feeling slightly uneasy yet relaxed.

The two hugged a little longer before eventually parting.

"Oh, I just realized," Nightmare started, "We are now missing two windows."

"No. We still have the windows, just not with the glass!" Dream stated.

Nightmare chuckled in slight amusement.

"Whatever you say, Dream." Was his response.
