Dream and Blue Join Forces

God dammit Dream and Blue.

Let's all have a light-hearted oneshot before all the angst that's yet to come :> Thank you ThinMintE for this awesome suggestion I hope you all enjoy and remember to brush your teeth before you cross the road

Dream sighed, dangling upside down from a sturdy branch of the Tree of Feelings like a bat.  Usually Nightmare would be beside him and they'd play I-spy or simply talk, though now it seems that the guardian of negativity would prefer to stay inside far away from the tree. He supposed it was understandable for his brother to be afraid- besides, if he stays away from it then surely the bad future possibilities cannot happen, right?

After Error visited them last, Nightmare started to talk with his brother more. He seems unsure of himself and has become incredibly jumpy- seeing him look so helpless hurt Dream deeply. But at least they're slowly reforming their brotherly bond. Nightmare even smiled at him yesterday!

It still hurt though, Dream realised. The guardian sighed, heaving himself up onto the branch so he was sitting normally with his legs hanging off. Knowing that his brother was suffering caused him to suffer as well. Nightmare has the weight of the word on his shoulders- literally. Dream felt powerless.

A small, sad frown made it's way onto the guardian's face. He peered up somewhat at the overcast sky. The clouds were a mix of dull greys and there wasn't a sign of blue sky or the sun anywhere. There was a light, barely-visible sheet of rain falling down and gently pitter-pattering onto the vivid green leaves around him.

"You look miserable, are you alright?"

Dream yelped in surprise, springing up from where he was sat and almost stumbling backwards off of the branch. Ink's eyes widened and he reached out to stable the other. After the initial shock subsided, the guardian glared at the artist and folded his arms. Ink laughed nervously and rubbed the back of his neck with a sheepish grin. Maybe sneaking up on Dream isn't such a great idea.

"What do you want, Ink?" Dream huffed. He didn't mean for it to sound so harsh.

The skeleton in question hesitated for a few seconds before answering.

"Uh, well I was thinking about how you came to exist-"

"Me and Nightmare."

Ink blinked in confusion until a flicker of recognition sparked in his eyes, causing them to change shape.

"Oh- right. I was thinking about how you and Nightmare came to exist and it just made me curious- how did the original guardian-"

"Our mother."

"How did your mother know to choose a skeleton form?"

Dream exhaled loudly. He'd told the artist this before- he'd told him the entire story. He knew it was wrong to be mad, Ink had very bad memory issues but with everything that's going on right now he couldn't help feel irritated about having to repeat something seemingly insignificant.

He'd repeat it anyway, though. Ink was his best friend after all.

"Well, she tried to use a human body but they exploded because the positive and negative energies were too much to handle and there weren't enough escape roots in the body." He explained, studying Ink's intrigued expression. "So she searched for a different form in her mind and came across Blueberry. She copied his form and boom- me and Nightmare were given a skeleton body."

Ink hummed, tilting his head.

"So you and Nightmare are replicas of Blueberry's body?"

Dream nodded, raising a non-existent eyebrow at Ink's contemplative look.

"If you and Nightmare are brothers..." The artist trailed off and his eyes lit up like he'd just solved the world's problems. "Doesn't that mean Blueberry is also your brother?"

Dream's eyes widened at the revolutionary discovery; the more he thought about it, the more it made sense until it became obvious.

"Oh my stars." He whispered.

Ink grinned toothily, feeling quite proud of his findings. He glanced at his vials momentarily.

"We must tell Blue immediately!" Dream exclaimed, his golden-yellow eyes glowing softly in excitement. They weren't stars though, Ink noted. Usually something like this would give the guardian starry eyes. Interesting.

"Great idea!" Ink praised. "I'll go to Underswap and bring him here- then we can tell your brother and maybe it'll cheer him up!"

Dream smiled fondly at the suggestion and nodded. Ink really was a good guy. The artist grinned and grabbed Broomie, painting a puddle of ink onto the tree branch and hopping into it, disappearing from sight presumably to Underswap. Dream continued to smile, until a strange thought occurred to him. How did Ink know that Nightmare wasn't happy? He didn't tell the artist that. The guardian shrugged it off, clicking his fingers and teleporting down below onto the dampened grass.

He couldn't believe he never thought about how Blueberry was technically his brother. It was weird, he didn't see Blue as a brother; only Nightmare could be his brother. Dream frowned at the thought, mentally scolding himself. It did make sense though. Him, Night and Blue were all the same exact size and their eyes could all shift into stars. But the thought of saying brotherly stuff to Blue was weird- he could only ever say stuff like "You're the best brother ever" and "I love you" to Nightmare. Saying it to Blueberry wouldn't feel right- maybe it's because him and Nightmare have always been together. Why'd he even start thinking about this?

Dream was suddenly snapped out of his thoughts by the sound of a portal opening behind him. He turned around just in time to see Ink hop through with Blueberry.

"Mweh heh heh- greetings, Dream!" Blue beamed brightly.

"I haven't told him yet." Ink said to Dream, holding Blueberry back from charging forwards.

"Huh- what haven't you told me?" Blue asked, ceasing his struggling to break free from Ink's grasp.

Dream smiled. "Well, you, me and Nightmare are all technically brothers!"

Blue's eyes widened and he gasped dramatically.

"Brothers?"

"Yup!" Ink confirmed, releasing his hold on the hyperactive skeleton.

"Wowzers! I can't believe it- I have to tell Papyrus!" Blue proclaimed, doing a weird happy dance.

Dream laughed softly, beginning to actually notice how similar he was to Blueberry.

"We also need to tell Nightmare." Dream added, turning around to face his house.

Blue cheered, running in a circle before charging forward in the direction of Dream's house. The guardian chuckled quietly, bolting after the other skeleton. Ink observed them for a few seconds before trailing after them.

Blue and Dream both skidded to a stop in front of the backdoor and shared a mischievous look.

"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" Dream asked, grinning.

"Ink is secretly an enemy spy?"

Dream blinked, staring at the other skeleton in bewilderment.

"No- that's not what I was thinking at all, actually."

"Oh."

Dream glanced back at Ink who was busy jumping in a few puddles.

"I can confirm Ink is definitely not an enemy or a spy." He concluded, spinning around to face Blue.

"Not yet." Blue narrowed his eyes.

Dream chuckled at Blueberry's weird antics- it was nothing unusual. Last time they went on an adventure, Blue had declared that Ink was actually a human pretending to be a skeleton (as we all know, humans descended from skeletons.) Blueberry always had a zany theory about the artist. No one really knows where he came from, Dream realised.

He shook his head to clear his mind, going back to what they were originally doing.

"I was thinking about breaking down the door." He stated.

Blue perked up.

"Oh- why didn't you say so?" He giggled, blue eyes shifting to stars.

"Let's kick down this barrier!"

Dream grinned toothily and nodded. The two skeletons backed up a little bit before using all of their strength to kick the barrier. The combined force instantly broke the door from it's hinges and it went flying backwards, plummeting down onto the kitchen floor. The duo giggled giddily.

"Oh this is going to be fun." Dream decided.

The two stepped over the fallen door and wandered through the kitchen into the living room. Nightmare was sat on the couch, staring wide-eyed at the two.

"Hey, Night." Dream greeted, waving cheerfully.

"Did you just destroy the backdoor?" He questioned.

"Yeah-"

"Oh my stars- Dream there's a big ugly spider on your ceiling!" Blue cried out, cowering behind Dream.

Error glared down at Blue.

Dream snorted. "I didn't know you were here too- why are you on the ceiling?"

"I don't have to tell you anything." Error grumbled.

Dream blinked. Ink sauntered into the living room glancing around at everyone before looking up.

"Oh my stars there's a massive ugly spider on the roof."

Error glowered at the artist.

"I hate you."

Dream sighed, turning away as the creator and destroyer began to bicker.

"Night, me and Blue have something revolutionary to tell you."

Nightmare eyed the two, slightly fearful at whatever they were going to tell him. Dream stepped over towards the other guardian and sat beside him and Blue followed, taking a seat beside the guardian of positivity.

"Okay, so basically-" Dream started however was cut short.

"I am also your brother!" Blue announced, followed by a string of "Mweh heh heh's!"

Nightmare stared at the two, baffled.

"What?"

"I'm your long lost brother!"

"How?" Nightmare questioned, utterly confused. How had they come to this assumption?

"Me and you are basically replicas of Blue's body so technically we are brothers."

Nightmare folded his arms, thinking about it.

"That's dumb- technically none of us are brothers. You and me just grew up together so we decided to be brothers so we could stay together."

Blue and Dream huffed at the response.

"I do not like that response and therefore I am now going to destroy the house." Dream stated.

Nightmare let out a long sigh, closing his eyes and leaning back against the couch.

"You would've done that anyway."

"I am going to assist Dream in destroying the house!" Blue giggled.

The two skeletons nodded at each other before jumping up from off the couch and darting upstairs to start their chaos.

"Can I destroy the house too?"

Nightmare opened his eyes and glared up at Error who was now directly above him.

"No."

Ink chuckled, taking a seat beside Nightmare.

"Well, guess I'm staying to fix the house."

Nightmare sighed, listening to the sound of windows shattering and doors being knocked off their hinges- is that floorboards he can hear being uplifted? Why can he hear a Gaster Blaster-

Nightmare decided to just close his eyes and pretend everything is fine.

Blue jumped down the stairs with a battlecry, launching a few bones into the wall opposite him.

This is fine.

Error snatched Broomie from off of Ink with his blue strings and made a mad dash away on the ceiling, the artist yelling something profound and chasing after him.

Completely fine.

'What the hell is happening?' the voice within Nightmare's mind asked.

"Just go with it."
