Blue Joins The Party

Brush your teeth before you cross the road

Dream groaned as he stirred awake, blinking his dull eyes repeatedly and rubbing them with his gloved hands. He yawned loudly and stretched his arms before shuffling to his feet and heaving himself up. He furrowed his non-existent eyebrows as he scanned his new surroundings. This wasn't where he had fallen asleep.

"Night?" He called out hoarsely, squinting his eyes and trying to figure out where he was.

He was nowhere. Well, that's at least what it seemed like. He was in a strange, blank void with absolutely no life. It was eerily still and silent. Dream didn't like it.

"Is this the anti-void?" He mumbled to no-one in particular.

He'd heard Ink briefly talk about it a few times and how it was a horrible, empty abyss. Taking another look around him, Dream came to the conclusion that the description matched this strange place. He involuntarily shuddered and grasped the end of his golden-yellow cape, fidgeting with the hem for comfort.

"Ink- are you here?" Dream called out, but nobody answered.

He assumed that Ink was the one who took him here- but then again, why would the artist do that? Maybe he had a reason. Or maybe it was Error? Ink used to talk about how him and Error would fight and bicker all the time in the anti-void.

"Error?"

Still no answer.

Dream sighed, trying to figure out how he had ended up in such a desolate place. Oh well, it doesn't matter. He needs to return to his world so that he can try and reason with his corrupted brother.

"Nightmare." Dream whispered.

Taking a deep breath, Dream tried to zone in on any positive feelings from his universe- he can't teleport without any positivity, after all. His breath hitched as he searched for the feelings. There was positivity however it was extremely faint. He supposed that made sense, considering Nightmare had consumed all of the positive apples except the one Dream had absorbed- plus, Dream wasn't even in the universe. He was stunned there was any positivity at all. Nodding to himself, Dream closed his eyes and clicked his fingers, teleporting away.

When the guardian reopened his eyes, he jumped in surprise. There, mere centimetres away from him was Bonnie.

"Wow- my wish came true!" Bonnie cheered, hopping forwards and hugging the skeleton cheerily.

Dream smiled slightly, patting the small child on the head. He gently pushed the bunny away and crouched down so that they were both eye-level.

"Hey, Bonnie. What was your wish?"

Bonnie giggled before answering. "I wished that you and Nightmare would come and visit!" He exclaimed however trailed off when he peered behind Dream and found no Nightmare.

"Where's Night?" He asked, ears drooping.

Dream swallowed thickly, wondering whether to tell the innocent rabbit about how his brother wasn't the same Nightmare he knew. He frowned, placing a gentle hand on the rabbit's shoulder.

"Nightmare... he isn't our friend at the moment." Dream said slowly. "He needs saving."

Bonnie's ears drooped even lower and his ruby-red eyes glossed over with tears.

"What's wrong with Night?" He asked, voice wavering.

Dream's non-existent heart melted at the sight of the saddened bunny.

"He's been possessed by a spirit of negativity." Dream half-lied. "I need to defeat the spirit but first I have to find some heros."

Bonnie's ears raised slightly and his eyes sparkled with hope.

"I can be a hero- I wan't to save Night!"

"No." Dream answered quickly, feeling a pang of guilt as he watched Bonnie's ears once again droop. "It's too dangerous, Bonnie. You're only nine."

Bonnie shook his head, about to argue however was interrupted by Dream.

"I need specific heroes- Error, Blueberry and Ink. They'll be able to help."

Bonnie sulked.

"But I want to be a hero."

Dream smiled softly at Bonnie, ruffling his fur.

"You are a hero already. You saved Nightmare ages ago, but now it's my turn with the help of Error, Ink and Blue."

Bonnie wiped away the few tears that had built up in his eyes and nodded.

"Okay, please save Night."

Dream crossed his fingers and grinned.

"I promise. What kind of brother would I be if I failed?"

Bonnie laughed quietly and hugged the guardian once more before letting him leave. Dream waved goodbye to the bunny as he exited the fruit and vegetable store. He sighed softly, momentarily observing his surroundings. There were a few villagers walking around with umbrellas and coats to shield them from the rain. A few of them turned to glimpse at the guardian and wave politely before continuing on their way through the village.

'This is good, all of the villagers seem to be okay. I need to make sure Nightmare doesn't get to them.' Dream pondered, trying to figure out his next steps.

"I guess I should get Blue first since I know where he'll be." Dream spoke aloud to himself, clicking his fingers and teleporting away in an instant.

The guardian watched as his universe faded and morphed into Blueberry and Papyrus's house. He blinked, scanning the living room and peeking into the kitchen before making his way up the stairs.

"Blue- are you home?" Dream called out, padding towards his friend's room and knocking gently on the door.

A string of "Mweh heh heh's" could be heard through the door and a small smile appeared on the guardian's face. He took a step back as Blueberry swung open the door excitedly, throwing himself at Dream and embracing him tightly.

"Greetings, Dream!" He exclaimed, hugging the other for a few more seconds before releasing him. Dream gasped slightly for air- Blueberry's hugs could be almost lethal at times.

"Hey, buddy." Dream greeted, giving the other skeleton a lopsided grin. "I need your help with something big."

Blue tilted his head curiously, his pupils shifting to sparkly blue stars.

"Wowzers! What is this magnificent big thing you need my assistance with?"

Dream rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly.

"Ah- it's not magnificent. Actually, it's really bad."

Blueberry's smile fell.

"Nightmare corrupted the golden apples and ate them as well as the negative apples. Now he's going to attack the village and I need help stopping him- but we can't hurt him. I won't let him get hurt. We need to somehow save him."

Blue frowned and his eyes glazed over with tears. His dear friend Nightmare had been corrupted and now he's going to hurt everyone! Blueberry can't let that happen!

"I'm really sorry about that, Dream." Blue apologised, placing a comforting hand on the guardian's shoulder. "I will help you in stopping Nightmare and will do my best to help save him!"

Dream grinned weakly and hugged the other skeleton gently. He could always rely on Blueberry.

"Thanks, Blue." He mumbled, pulling away from the hug after a few minutes had passed.

"Now I need to get Ink and Error to help as well."

Blue frowned.

"No- not Ink. He's an enemy spy!"

Dream's eye twitched and he sighed. Now was not the time for games.

"Blue, Ink is not an 'enemy spy', why do you keep saying that? He's our friend."

Blueberry narrowed his eyes before slumping in defeat.

"I suppose you're right. But let's get Error first!"

Dream raised a non-existent eyebrow however nodded. Blueberry could be really weird and ominous sometimes.

"Okay, fine. I don't really know where to find Error but maybe he's in Dreamtale- he could be with Nightmare." Dream spoke, silently hoping that Error was also trying to stop Nightmare. Surely he knows about him being corrupted- he's always watching over their universe. Dream realises it's weird how he's completely trusted the destroyer to protect his brother.

But why didn't he try and help stop Nightmare from consuming the apples?

"Dream?" Blue called out, waving a hand in front of the spaced out guardian.

"Oh-right." Dream answered, snapping back into reality. "Hold my cape and I'll teleport us to my universe."

Blueberry saluted in response and grabbed the golden-yellow cape. Dream closed his eyes and focused before teleporting back into the village. Of course it was still raining. The guardian peered up at the crying sky and felt an air of calmness until it was abruptly disrupted by somewhat frantic tugging on his cape.

"Uh- Dream..."

Dream frowned, turning to see what Blueberry was looking at. His eyes locked onto his brother's blazing cyan eye in the distance and he felt his blood run cold.
