Hysterical

Dave's POV

I opened the wrapper of my burger, quickly taking one bite before placing it down to my lap.

Staring at the scenery as I chewed, there wasn't much to do today so eating greasy food and enjoying nature was what I decided to busy myself with.

I threw the burger wrap to a bin and decided to drive around the city, not knowing where else to go.

I passed by Zach's workplace, seeing him entering inside the car with his secretary. Where are they going? Isn't it still office hours?

I grumbled, the engine roaring with me. They started to drive off, taking the road to the cliff near the ocean.

Not knowing what else to do, I followed them, careful not to get caught as I drived slowly trailing behind them.

The car haulted to a stop and Zach got out and opened his secretary's car. I parked from a safe distance from them and watched from afar.

I can't help but wonder that this place feels oddly familiar. It's like I've been here before. I squinted my eyes, staring at the two as they sat down by the edge of the cliff.

I knew that they were conversing with each other, from the look on Zach's face I could tell that he was talking about our deal. The girl looked fraught, her brown locks covering her anxious face as she looked down.

My eye twitched when Zach held her hand, mumbling words I couldn't comprehend.

There was silence lingering between them. They had no right to converse personally and closely. Why am I doing this anyway? Why am I stalking them?

Come on Dave, you're one of the most eligible bachelors. Why do you trouble yourself for a mere secretary when you can have much more than that?

But there was something about her, not by her looks. But something much more deadly, a secret maybe? The way she looked at me at our first encounter meant that she knew something about me that I don't.

With my thoughts drowning me with questions, I didn't see Zach leaving, only to find her alone on the cliff.

She sat there all alone, thinking. I got out of the car, the faint smell of wet grass and salty water filled my lungs. I took a few steps forward, careful not to make any sound. What would I say if she found out that I was stalking her? God, that would be embarassing.

My brows furrowed when she stood up, her hands raised as she stood dangerously close to the edge.

That's when I realized, that she was about to do something I'll regret If I don't act now.

She's going to fall and kill herself.

Running as I kept a close eye on her, I wrapped an arm around her waist, haulting her fall. She was now leaning on the edge and still I kept a distance as my arm was still wrapped around her.

And with all my effort, I pulled her back and away from death.

Abby's POV

My face was now buried to someone's chest, holding me tightly.

"Do you hate me that much that you'd want to kill yourself?" His chest rumbled as he spoke, husky and deep.

I palmed my hands to his chest and tried my best to push him away, only to feel his arms tightening even more.

"Don't. We're close to the edge and you'll fall over easily."

I blinked back the tears. "Why do you care anyway?"

I could hear his heart beating rapidly. "Because I need you"

Instantly, my heart fluttered, cheeks warmed and tears fell freely. The few droplets of salty tears stained on his shirt.

I tried so hard to keep them from falling, trying to hide my weakness. Despite those three years I've been keeping them hidden, I think it's time for me to let it all out for now.

He lifts me by the waist and ushered me away from the edge. This time he let's me go, oddly feeling cold as he did so. I turned away from him and wiped my damp face with the back of my hand.

I heard footsteps, concluding that he was walking away. I turned to face him, only to see him still in the same position.

"Didn't know you come by to these kinds of places Dave" Zach came into view, holding two waterbottles as he glared at Dave.

I lowered my head, feeling Zach's gaze burning in worry. I forced a smile, glancing at Dave. He doesn't need to know about my suicidal attempt, that would only make him more worried.

Dave cleared his throat and shoved his hands in his pockets. I looked away, seeing his piercing gaze focused on me.

Zach came to my side, handing me my waterbottle. I gulped it down, my dry throat relieved to feel cold liquid passing through it.

Zach sized up Dave, his ego kicking in. "We'll be going now" He took my hand and started walking, heading to the car. I jolted, surprised to see Dave holding my other hand, while Zach held the other.

Dave's facade looked calm, his voice however was cold like ice, sharp as a knife, and dangerously serious.

"She's coming with me"

I couldn't take my eyes off of him. They were hauntingly attractive, his eyes flickered to mine for a moment before turning back to Zach.

Zach spoke from behind me, his pride still intact. "Who are you to decide for her?"

Dave squeezed my hand for a moment, comtemplating to answer. "Same goes for you"

Zach's patience was long gone, his eyes ablaze with fury. I took my hand away from his as it turned to tight fists.

With his jaw locked, he spoke. "What the fuck is your problem? Why do you want her so badly?"

"And why can't you let her go?" Dave spat, his voice ricocheting through the wind. I glanced at the two, confused to why they were arguing.

Zach took two strides to Dave, and before I could even blink, he pulled his collar as the two had a stare down.

"Becuashe she's my friend, and as one I care for her" I panicked, If I don't do anything soon, this will end as a bloody fight.

Why can't boys control their temper?

I knew that they were too strong to pull back from each other, they were giants compared to my petite body.

I blocked out the two men arguing, thinking of another solution.

Until the broken pieces were now connected, and I finally thought of the most convincing solution to stop them.

Anxiously, I thought about it, and I was so nervous if I was about to do the right thing I wouldn't regret.

Zach's voice broke me from my thoughts, the one question I dreaded for two days was now spoken. "She hasn't decided yet, what are you going to do about that?"

I took in one sharp breathe, praying that this wouldn't be something I'll regret in the future.

"I'll do it"

They both stopped, their heads turning to me.

"What?" Zach asked, shocked. His grip on Dave's collar long gone.

I met his eye, hiding the fear rising within me. " I have to, this is the only way to save your business, and someone's job"

Zach was completely baffled by my decision, his eyes wide as he looked at me.

I glanced at Dave, seeing the smirk on his face made me nervous. Why was he smiling like that? Is that even comsidered a smile?

Dave spoke, amusement lingering in his voice. "It's settled then" He took Zach's hand and shook it, sealing the deal.

Zach, who was looking stupefied, shook his hand in a daze, worried and nervous for my sake.

My stare on him broke when I saw
Dave reach out, his hand outstretched for me to take.

He smiled, a genuine one spreading through his face. "Let's go?"

I hesitated, my hand tight to my chest as I stared at his hand.

I took in a sharp breath before taking his hand in mine, feeling the heat of his hand comforting me.

I knew that there was nothing bad going to happen, I'm just going to work for him that's all.

I looked back, seeing Zach observing me as I got inside Dave's car.

And as we left, I can't help but fear for what danger will now come in my way.
