Epilogue

Abby's POV

2 years later

The sun kissed my pale skin.

The sky blinded me, forcing me to look down to the ash road. "What's taking him so long?"

The door swung open, his figure fading into view. His dark locks brighter against the light of day, looking younger with his fitted teal shirt and black denim pants. "I told you to wait inside" He covered the side of his face, shadows forming as he approached. "Aren't you hot?"

The smirk came before I noticed. "Not funny" I waved him off before taking my seat next to the wheel, the car revving to life and I blinked when the streets started to blur with the speed.

"This is a first" He glanced my way, a smug curving on his lips. I fought the urge to scowl at him. "It's time I come out from my house, I'm turning into a corpse the longer I stay inside those walls"

He laughed, his hand falling to my hair as he ruffled it. "I'm just glad you're here" I frowned at him, trying to straighten my locks. "What a nice way of saying thank you" He chuckled and smiled, silence following afterward.

I stretched out my legs, tingling with stiff muscles. The ride was two hours long, and it was mostly awkward with no conversations and side glances.
The airport was crowded with many people, we had a hard time finding a parking spot, thankfully we found one small slot by the far side of the entrance.

His hand grasped mine, oddly cold against it. "Come on, I know a place where they serve the best doughnuts" I grinned at him as he pulled me to the crowd, pushing our way to the other side.

The door chimed as we entered, the smell of fresh pastries and strong coffee makes my mouth water. I've been craving for a frappe and some sugary carbs since the ride. "I'll find some seats, you know what I want right?" He smirked before nodding, a furious blush warming my cheeks as I walked away.

"Moron" I muttered, touching my cheeks to cool them. Charles and I have been together for a year now, and he's always a teasing jerk whenever we're together. I hate it when he annoys me with those smug facade, but it does make me smile nonetheless.

Unoccupied, I sat down on the booth next to the window, waiting for him. The sky rumbled, darkening with clouds filled with downpour. It wasn't suppose to rain today, hours ago it was sunny and scorching so I didn't bother to bring an umbrella.

I've never met his sister before, Charles told me that she wanted to meet me, apparently Chase wasn't his only sibling, hopefully her sister isn't as crooked as Chase.

She was coming home to visit from Russia, and her arrival was due at 7 in the evening. I never had sister, I've always been the lone child when my parents were alive.

"Thinking about me?" Startled, I turned to see him smiling with the tray of food in his hand, I rolled my eyes at him. "You wish" He clicked his tongue before sitting down, pouring sugar into his coffee. "You excited to see my sister?" I wasn't really excited, my hands were shaking underneath the table. "Nervous actually"

He sipped his drink while I ate my doughnut. "Don't be, she might be a handful but I'm sure she'll like you" I nodded with a smile, picking up my drink from the table.

We decided to meet his sister by the front entrance, we couldn't wait by the gates because the crowd was much thicker there. "What did she say?" Charles tucked his phone when the call ended. "Some celebrity had been with her in the flight, they won't be out after an hour or so" He sighed, frustration wrinkling on his face. "I'm really sorry for making you wait, Abby"

I shrugged, patting him in the back. "It's okay, at least now we know why it was crowded by the gates" He growled before speaking. "Stupid celebrity, causing trouble for me"

I laughed at his scowling face, ruffling his hair. "You look like one, Charles. Stop complaining, your nose crinkles whenever you frown" He tipped his head to the side, a sly smile on his lips. "They are good looking" He leaned and closed the space between us, his face inches from mine. "Are you saying that I'm handsome?"

My eyes traveled anywhere but his eyes, averting my gaze from his burning one. "No, I didn’t say that intentionally" His cheek brushed my lips as he tilted his head to the side, whispering in my ear. "Oh?"

I froze when his lips planted on my cheek, lingering longer than it was supposed to before he moved away, a smile showing on his lips. "Your face is red, is something wrong?" Instinctively, my palm touched my cheek, cold against my face. "Stop that" I hissed at him as he laughed.

He pulled at the tips of his hair. "I'm going to meet her by the gate, could you stay here while I fetch her?" I nodded at him, glancing at the entrance in front of us. "Sure, I'll be right here" He hesitated, his thumb caressing my hand slowly in small circles. "You'll be fine on your own?"

I pinched his cheek before resting my hand there, patting it gently. "Why wouldn't I be?" He grinned, bringing my hand to his lips and kissing it, warmth spreading from my knuckles. "I'll be back" He winked at me before walking away.

Night fell hours ago, the sky dark with thick clouds yet to pour rain. I hugged my arms tight against my body, trying to warm myself, I should've bought a jacket with me.

"He's here!" I heard the squeals and shrieks of women, a crowd forming by the entrance. I tried to avoid their pressing figures , but soon I found myself squeezed between sweaty bodies and shouting voices.

Upfront, the loudest noises were heard, where suited men raised their arms sideway to push back the girls, I couldn't see clearly because of all the signs raised and jumping, but I knew that the celebrity Charles was talking about might be the cause of this chaos.

I tried to get out of the crowd, finding an exit out of this cramped space. I hissed when someone jabbed their elbow to my shoulder, I stumbled back before my body met the rough ground.

Someone glared at me, teeth showing in a snarl. "Watch where your going bitch!" I squeezed my eyes shut as pain seized my back.

And then silence, nothing but soft murmurs and shoes skidding on cement filled my ears. My arm was burning, I must've scraped my arm when I fell.

Thankfully, it was already dark outside, but that didn't seem to ease the humiliation growing hot on my face. I should've followed Charles inside, this could've been avoided if I accompanied him. Stupid celebrities, always making a scene whenever-

"Are you alright?" I flinched once my eyes adjusted, someone was kneeling in front of me. His eyes were a striking shade of emerald, seemingly bright against the dark. "Can you stand?" He offered me his hand, urging me to get up. I clasped my hand in his, my legs frail from the fall.

I nodded, smiling at him. "Thank you" He smiled back, tilting his head slightly. "My apologies, these girls do tend to get rough sometimes, although we do-"

"There's no need to fight, ladies"

I froze.

"Ethan" The man who helped me nodded his head, lowering his gaze before stepping to the side.

Ethan? Did he change his name?

I struggled, trying to stop my hands from shaking so bad. I couldn't look away, not with him in front of me, not after two years with no closure.

I held my head high in spite of the raging feelings I kept inside, trembling with nothing but anger.

Beside him, I was surprised to see his sister, her eyes suspiciously calm as she looked at me.

He never wavered, not even for a second. "And you are?" His cold gaze was all I saw, deadlier than the crooked smile he wore.

I tried not to slap him right there, the satisfying whip of my hand across his face was screaming in my head. Instead I gave him the coldest of my smiles, devoid of anything but hatred. "I'm Abby, and I can assure you that we've met before"

His chuckle made my spine shiver, it's been a while since I've heard that, along with many memories that should be forgotten. "Oh, I know so"
