A Fresh Start

Abby's POV

"Was he hot?" Thea puckered her lips, applying her lipstick.

Those words sent me back remembering last night, the stranger's body close to me sent my heart running.

Apparently, Thea came by my house to tell me all about what happened to her. I was surprised when she told me she rejected the guy when he asked for privacy, that was quite strange for Thea to decline to that.

"I don't know. But that's not exactly what-"

"Shush now. It's time to go to work" She intervened. I rolled my eyes and grabbed my purse before following her out to the door.

"What happened to Charles? Last I saw him was his hands on the waist of a girl on the dance floor" I checked through my phone for any message from him. But seeing my phone had no text, I placed it back inside my bag.

"Probably still at the bar, passed out on the floor" I laughed at her statement. If that was true then I had to check on him later.

I looked past the trees slowly growing smaller, replaced by buildings as we got closer to our destination.

I resigned at my last job and applied here. I had the same role here at the company, another secretary of the president, but things were more proffesional here. Thea was one of the board of directors so I got to see her more often.

I strolled to his office, sitting down on my desk as I waited for him to call me.

The telephone rang and I quickly picked it up. "Yes Sir, you called?"

"Cancel all of my appointments for tonight. We'll be meeting our buyer at that time, Bring the documents I asked you to keep before we come down, alright?" He was fumbling on something, waitng for me to reply.

"I'll get on it, Sir" The line went dead and I groaned. That man seriously needs to make up his mind. He told me two days ago to set up three meetings. Then he told me to cancel them off because he had somewhere to go to, So I went inside the meeting room and apologized to everyone who was waiting impatiently, Thea included.

I heaved before standing up, straightening my outfit and preparing my apology to the board.

Lunch time came and Zach, my boss, let me go off and have my lunch. We were sitting down on a table at Thea's favorite restaurant. Munching down on my food while glancing at my phone. Why hasn't Charles called me? I'm starting to worry, What if something happened?

"You still love those doughnuts of yours? Until now you still eat them" Thea pointed to my food with her fork. I looked down to my glazed doughnut, licking my lips from the smudge of glaze in it.

I shrugged, picking a small piece from it."Well, I love them so I have to eat them"

She rolled her eyes."You and your weird favorites" Well I always loved them, so there was nothing weird about that. I mean, who wouldn't love doughnuts? They're absolutely delicious.

She took a bite from her steak before observing me. "By the way, did you hear about our buyer? I heard that they were loaded, enough to buy our whole company" I wasn't always interested in business, but after she said that, my focus was on her now.

"Yes. And Zach was overly excited, telling me to cancel all of his appointments, again" I groaned. She seemed to get what I was talking about and laughed.

"I hope it's worth it, this would increase our salary if we get this buyer" She pushed her plate away and brought out her phone.

"Jeez, I have to take this Abby, do you mind?" I waved her off, telling her to take the call. She stood up and walked to a close distance before answering the call.

This buyer has to be very important to Zach to cancel such important meetings.

I sipped on my drink as Thea approached me with a frustrated look on her face.

"What happened? Is there something wrong?" She slumped on her chair and ran a hand through her hair, frustrated.

"Zach gave me a call, He said that if the buyer doesn't sign the contract, then he'll fire us." My eyes widened. What the hell? Did Zach bump his head? Didn't he know that Thea helped him increasing our sales from the last project?

"Didn't you help him in the last project? Why would he do that?"

"Well, in our last meeting, We didn't give much ideas so we get the consequence if this doesn't turn out good." She picked at her food, her mind deep in thought. I had to do something, or else she would lose her job.

I placed my hand on top of hers, she looked up to me worriedly as I smiled at her reassuringly.

"I'm going to make sure that doesn't happen, I promise"

Those words made her face smile. This was always her dream job and I didn't want to see her dreams shatter in front of me.

"God, I hope this doesn't end as a disaster" I muttered to myself. Taking the files in my hands and knocking on Zach's door.

"Come in"

I entered inside. Seeing him fixing his suit in annoyance, I cleared my throat to signal my entrance.

"Abby, did you bring the files?" He pulled on his tie as I smiled and handed him the documents.

"You hold on to that for now, I was about to ask you a favor anyway" He turned to look at me with his eyebrows raised. Zach wasn't as handsome as someone I once knew but he did have the looks, with bright blue eyes, full lips and slick brown hair, he would definitely make any girl swoon at his feet.

He was attractive, but his temper- thin as thread.

"What is it, Sir?"

He shook his head, clearly taken a back. " You know you can call me Zach if you like"

I shrugged. "Okay, Zach. What is it then?"

He placed a hand on my shoulder. "Don't do anything I'll regret later, alright? Just smile and don't speak when I ask you too, Okay?" This was the first physical contact we ever had since I was working here. This really must be very important to him.

I nodded, not being able to speak infront of him with those intense eyes of his.

He smiled, his perfect teeth seemed to birghten the room. I fought the urge to smile at his perfect face.

His phone rang and the sudden irritation occurred in me.

"Excuse me, I have to take this" He answered the call. I stood in my place awkwardly while fiddling with my hands.

"He's here? Already?" His face slightly infuriated, I looked up at him with worried eyes as he ended the call.

"He's already here, Let's go now" He took me by the wrist and I was forced to let him drag me to the elevator.

I could tell he was nervous. His eyes hard and unfocused, sweat glistening on the side of his forehead. I hesitantly took out my hanky and gently wiped his sweat.

He doesn't react and lets me finish. The doors opened and I grabbed onto Zach's hand.

He looked down on me, his face showing that he was nervous."You'll be fine, I promise" I assured him with a smile on my face. He turned to me with worried eyes before smiling, Grabbing my wrist and ushered me to the lobby.

To be honest, I was really nervous for this. What if he doesn't sign the contract? I didn't want that to happen, Thea could lose her job and I'll have no choice but to watch it.

I remained still with my eyes on the floor, hearing Zach introducing himself. Someone was standing infront of me but I still glued my eyes to the floor.

The burning feeling crawled on my face, I could feel someone staring at me, but I was too nervous to look up.

Zach was about to introduce me. I turned to look at him with worried eyes.

He nods his head at the person in front of me. The guy cleared his throat and started talking to us.

"And you are?"

Swallowing, I spoke."I'm the secretary  of Sir Zach-"

I stopped. My heart beating rapidly as sweat trickled down my forehead.

My palms became sweaty, and so was my face. The air was cold but my body was burning, the flame slowly igniting inside me. I could hear Zach calling my name, but I couldn't hear his voice. My attention was focused intently on the man staring back at me.

I let the tears fall freely, somewhat making my eyes burn and blur at the same time. But his face still clear even in the midst of my cloudy vision.

The memories came flying back, hitting my head with so many thoughts I was afraid I might pass out. My head was spinning as every detail of each memory resurfaced in my head.

It wasn't possible, But the evidence was right infront of me. I earned some worried glances, but I didn't care about that, I only cared about one thing and it was him.

I clutched onto Zach for support, my sweaty hand gripping him. I was sure he was talking to me, asking me if I was alright. I was so done for after this, Zach would be furious at me. I gripped even tighter on him, afraid that the floor would swallow me whole if I didn't.

He furrowed his eyebrows, his eyes worried as he looked at me.

You don't know how much pain I was in those three years, yearning for you.

"Are you okay?" He asked. God I missed that heavenly voice of his. The way his soft lips mixing with his melodic voice made me smile. I was sure that I looked insane. My makeup probably smudged from my crying.

He stood there, looking alive as ever. His presence alone could make the room look more lively.

My first instinct was to kiss him, to spill all my longing and passion to him. But I couldn't do that, there were already many people around us.

I followed my second instinct. I abruptly walked to him and wrapped my shaking arms around him. Pulling him closer and tighter to me, his scent still the same as I let myself melt into him.

He's here. After all those three years, When I thought he was dead, He was alive than ever, slowly recovering.

But then he briskly pulled me off him, I was still smiling from too much longing that I didn't notice that he was staring daggers at me, his eyes fuming with anger and confusion.

My heart heavy and broken as he spoke, his voice cold as ice and sharp like a knife, the blade slowly pushing deeper within seconds.

His familiar dark eyes unwavering as he looked down on me, his face contoured in anger.

"Who the fuck are you?"
