When the rest of the students' bodies began to rise from their sitting position to check if Cheongsan really spotted the helicopter, Areum removed the blanket from her lap and was about to rise when she spotted Suhyeok offered his hand to help her. Smiling at the tall boy in gratitude, the beauty took his hand as she rose up from the floor.

Standing slightly behind Suhyeok, the black haired girl could spot a red blink light on the dark sky, fully aware that it was indeed the helicopter that both Areum and Namra heard from earlier.

“Fire. Get the fire.” Cheongsan uttered when he saw the helicopter approaching Hyosan High school. Not missing the chance of being rescued by the authorities, Cheongsan quickly went to grab the wooden plank with fire on it.

“It’s coming.” Suhyeok mentioned when he also noticed the helicopter coming their way.

“They’re coming.” Wujin frantically said as he also took the wooden plank from the lit fire, in order to grab the attention of the authorities.

“Over here! We’re here!”

“Over here!”

“Please help us!”

The group of friends began to yell for help as they tried to catch the attention of the pilot in the helicopter. Some of the surviving students began to frantically wave either their arms or the wooden plank on their hands to make sure the authorities noticed them on the school rooftop. Meanwhile the two intelligent duos remained quiet as they watched the helicopter approaching the rooftop.

From the corner of her eyes, Areum could spot Daesu cautiously climbing over the rooftop wall as he shouted with determination while waving the wooden plank with the almost extinguished fire at the end of the wood. The black haired girl could see that Joonyeong was hugging the plump boy’s torso, preventing Daesu from falling off the rooftop.

“Look at us, will you?” Daesu shouted with his loud voice.

Once the helicopter finally got closer to the school rooftop, a sudden bright light started to beam at the surviving students on top of the rooftop as wind kept coming for the swirling blade. The group of friends were covering their faces from the bright light.

The students’ bodies then followed the direction of the helicopter as Suhyeok went to get Areum to join the rest of their friends. The tall boy was only met with Areum covering her ears using her hands as both of her eyes were closed in pain due to her newly sensitive hearing.

Slowly walking to the girl he likes, Suhyeok wrapped his arm around the beauty and led her toward their classmate. However, before the tall boy managed to move, Areum stopped him by tugging on his school blazer using her right hand, making Suhyeok turn to face her in confusion.

“Namra. She needs help.” The beauty muttered as she continued to endure the pain on her ears. After hearing Areum’s statement, Suhyeok glanced over to look over the class president, only to see that Namra was also in the same state as Areum.

“Wujin-ah!” Suhyeok quickly called, making the mentioned boy turn his attention toward Suhyeok in question.

“Can you help Namra? We need to gather with the others.” Suhyeok shouted over the loud sound of the whirring helicopter as he kept Areum closer to him. Wujin nodded his head as a response before he went to help Namra.

Once both Areum and Suhyeok reached their group of friends, Areum could see her friends were cheering, laughing and hugging each other in happiness after seeing that they would be rescued by the authorities. Amidst the loud sound coming from the helicopter, Areum smiled when she saw Daesu was excitedly lifting Hyeryeong as he hugged the short haired girl.

Once the black haired girl saw Daesu let the short haired girl free from his hug, the beauty silently giggled while covering her ears when she saw the look on Hyeryeong's face as the short haired girl smacked her palm on Daesu’s plump body, in which the plump boy ignored her action due to the excitement of being rescued by the authorities. Through the corner of her eyes, Areum could see that both Namra and Wujin had joined them as the pair stood beside both Suhyeok and herself.

Standing behind the rest of the cheering and clamoring friends, Suhyeok sighed in relief after seeing the rescuers were able to retrieve them from the hell hole of their school with the increasing number of zombies scattering around the area.

Then, the surviving students ecstatically watched the helicopter come near the rooftop, making them stumble backward due to the strong wind coming from the helicopter blades. Few moments later, the group of students saw the helicopter door  slides open, revealing military officers in black armor.

From where the black haired girl was standing behind her classmates, Areum watched the soldiers throw two ropes down and immediately make their way down to the rooftop. The beauty took weary steps when she suddenly had a bad feeling when saw two of the military officers pointing their guns toward them.

“Here-”

“Whoa.”

Both Daesu and Hyeryeong claimed as the the group of students stumbled back in shock when they spotted the armed officers aiming their guns toward the group of friends. Then, two more officers make their way down to join their colleagues on the rooftop. Once the four military officers safely landed on the school rooftop, the helicopter door was quickly closed and began to fly away.

Seeing the helicopter flying away from the school rooftop, Cheongsan began to approach the military officers as his mind was filled with questions about not being rescued. However, the boy halted his movement when one of the officers aimed his gun toward the boy.

“Get down.” The soldier ordered with his gun pointed toward Cheongsan, making the boy in the green vest blinked his eyes in disbelief.

“All of you get down!” Once again the officer commanded, making the students stunned from what they were expecting to be.

“Sir. Can you please help us?” Daesu bravely asked with both of his hands raised up in a surrender motion. However, the plump boy's plea was being ignored when the same military officer gave a stern order to the surviving students.

“Face down on the ground! Get down! Now!” The military officer commanded. One by one, the students with hesitant feelings do what the military soldier commands, crouching down against the concrete floor in fright.

“Examining the area. Hyosan High rooftop. Ten survivors confirmed.”

Overhear one of the military soldier statements, Areum quietly took a sneak peek as two of the soldiers began to take Cheongsan and Onjo’s temperature.

“Checking the temperature now.”

One by one, the two military officers began to scan the rest of the students.

“Clear.”

Hearing the soldier mentioned this word after checking his friend's temperature, Suhyeok was quickly able to connect the puzzle to what the military officers were currently doing. They were checking the temperature to see if there were any zombies amongst the students.

Remembering the redness and the black veins on Areum’s left jaw, Suhyeok instantly glanced over at the beauty beside him, who quickly covered her jaw with a lock of her black hair. When the officer reached toward Suhyeok, the officer immediately took a scan of his temperature.

“Clear.” The officer mentioned the word after taking Suhyeok’s temperature with its screen flash green. Areum could feel her heartbeat when the officer was about to take her body temperature, feeling afraid that with her temperature might have led the armed soldiers to suspect her as a zombie like her friends before.

At the same time, after hearing one of the officers mutter the word, Suhyeok sneaked a glance over at Areum, who was getting her temperature done by the officer on her forehead. The tall boy could see through the corner of his eyes that the beauty was keeping her head down, in order to prevent the officer from seeing the redness as well as the black veins on her jaw.

Once the beeps sound from the thermal scanner could be heard, Suhyeok's heart dropped a beat when he saw the thermometer screen flash red. Unknown to the pair, the same thing also happened to Namra, seeing the intelligent duo had similar traits after getting bit by one of the school bullies.

“Temperature is 33.5. Providing a warming blanket.” The soldier announced.

Then, beauty heard a ruffling noise before seeing one of the soldiers make his way over to her. Out of nowhere, Areum could feel a thermal blanket being placed across her back.

“Two students have hypothermia. The rest are normal.”

Suhyeok overheard one of the military soldiers, who the tall boy assumed as the leader of the team mentioned over their radio.

“You can get up now.” The leader of the military team ordered. The group of friends then began to stand up from their crouching position. Seeing Areum was struggling with the thermal blanket being wrapped around her, Suhyeok quickly went to help her stand up by wrapping his arm around her. The tall boy could also feel through her school cardigan as well as the thermal blanket that her body was colder than before due to the strong wind from the helicopter earlier.

“Are you the only survivors?” The military team leader asked with a superior in his voice tone.

Not listening to the armed soldier’s question, Suhyeok was busy looking for the blanket that Areum shared with her close friend. Spotting the blanket beside Namra, the tall boy quickly grabbed the blanket before asking permission from the class president before he used it for the black hair girl beside him.

“Prez, do you mind if I use this for Areum? Her body temperature is way too cold.” Suhyeok explained as he stared at Namra, who was standing beside Wujin.

“Yeah, just use it. I already have this.” Namra mentioned as she motioned the thermal blanket wrapped around her, letting Suhyeok take the blanket for the beauty, fully aware that Areum could easily get cold, especially after the strong wind that blew from the helicopter blades.

“No, it’s okay. I’m fine, really.” Areum insisted, shaking her head when Suhyeok tried to wrap the blanket on her waist.

“Rumnie-yah.” The tall boy softly muttered her name as he cupped her face, making the beauty look at his black eyes. “You’re shivering right now.” He claimed as he brushed his thumb along her cheek.

“What?” The beauty asked, not noticing she was indeed shivering until she heard the clattering of her teeth due to the cold temperature that consumed her whole body.

“See? You didn’t even notice you’re shivering.” Suhyeok silent chuckled as he watched  at her shocked-shell face.

“What are you going to do without me?” The tall boy teased as he wrapped the blanket around the beauty’s waist and secured the blanket by tying a knot.

“Probably forgetting to take care of myself.” Areum mumbled as she watched Suhyeok finish tying the blanket around her waist. Then, the black haired girl lifted her eyes and saw his black eyes looked at her with compassion.

“I’ve always forgotten how witty you can be, sometimes.” Suhyeok smirked as he put one of his arms around her body, pulling her closer and gave a quick peck on her forehead. Then, the pair turned their heads to the front and listened to what the leader of the military soldiers informed them.

“We’ll go down for a few minutes. So, wait right here.” The leader of the special mission team instructed.

“Aren’t you not going to rescue us?” Jimin asked, moving forward from her spot as panic surged through her body when the thought of them being left from being rescued.

“Yes, we will rescue all of you. So, don’t go anywhere. Don’t do anything and just wait here.” The military soldier commanded as he looked over each of the students. Once his eyes landed toward Areum’s direction, the leader of the military team suspiciously remained staring at her direction.

Seeing one of the soldiers was suspiciously staring at her for quite some time, Areum quickly averted her eyes away as she tried to hide the left side of her face away from the military soldier from seeing the redness and black veins on her left jaw. Feeling the beauty’s posture began to stiff due to the officer’s suspicious eyes lingered on her, Suhyeok brushed his thumb on her shoulder in comfort.

“Understand?” The military officer claimed after removing his eyes from the black haired girl, who seemed familiar to him.

“Mm-hmm.”

“Yes.” Different voices came from the surviving students as they responded to the military officer.

“Alright, let’s go.” The leader gave orders to the other three soldiers.

The group of surviving students then watched as the four military men went to the edge of the school rooftop. The young students observed two of the soldiers were connecting their ropes hook to the hook attachment on the concrete floor of the rooftop. Once they finished, they threw the rope over the other side of the school building as the leader of the team gave instruction over their radio.

“Three soldiers, ready to go. Chopper, report.”

Areum frowned her eyebrows in confusion when she overheard the leader’s command over his radio, not completely sure what the military soldiers were trying to achieve. Then, Areum saw one of the soldiers waved his hand, signaling the helicopter to get near to the school building.

Moments laters, the group of friends then watched the spotlight on the helicopter come into view on the side of the school building.

“Viper, ready to go. Over.”

Once the leader of the military soldiers gave commands, three of the soldiers slid down the rope that clasped to the hook attachment on the rooftop. Seconds laters, the sound of glass shattering could be heard, making the surviving teenages step back in surprise.

Then, out of nowhere, the sound of the gunshot in the distance below them could be heard by the young teens. In a quick reflex, both Areum and Namra covered their ears in pain because of the loud shotgun.

Hearing the sound of the gunshot, the black haired girl let out a whimper as she quickly closed her eyes in pain, trying her best to block away the sound of the gunshot from her ears before it managed to trigger her past memories. On the other side of her, Suhyeok watched Areum in worry when he heard the sound of gunshot below them.

Not knowing how to calm her down with the rapid gunshot, the tall boy pulled the beauty closer to his chest and placed the left side of her head against it. The tall boy then placed one of his hands on top of her right hand that barely covered her ear from hearing the gunshot sound. Suhyeok hoped that his small action could help her block the sound.

Unknown to the pair, Namra could hear her close friend was breathing heavily even though she already covered her ears with both of her hands. Hearing her close friend breathing , the class president glanced over at her close friend, who was being held close to Suhyeok. Namra watched in sympathy when she saw Areum closed her eyes in pain, assuming that the black haired girl was probably trying to block the memories of her father being shot multiple times from resurfaced.

“The infected are converging on the field and the front gate. What’s your status?”

Each of the students were quiet as they continued to stare at the one soldier that monitored the situation from the rooftop. Deciding to know what was happening after the three soldiers started firing the gunshot, Joonyeong slowly walked over to the soldier.

“Report on the situation.”

Hearing the continuous gunfire from a few classes below them, Joonyeong halted his action from approaching the soldier. Daesu then calmly walked over to his friend, who stopped on his track.

“Hey. Are they going to kill all of the zombies before they take us?” The plump boy asked his friend.

“I don’t think so. There’s only four of them. Three of them went to one of the classes below and one of them monitored the outside situation.” Joonyeong muttered as he continued to stare at the soldier on the rooftop.

“But they’re Special Mission, right?” Daesu asked as he watched Joonyeong shrugged  in response.

“Are they looking for something?” Joonyeong thought after hearing the plump boy’s question.

“Are they heading to the science lab?” Joonyeong assumed as he met Daesu’s eyes.

“Do you have the package?”

The two boys heard the armed soldier on the rooftop asking the rest of his colleagues.

Minutes after minutes of waiting, each of the surviving students began to feel anxious of waiting to be rescued. Moreover, the young teen did not know what the military soldier went after but they only knew that it would be something valuable.

“We have to get out. Speed it up.” The one military officer that stayed behind commanded.

Then, the group of students once again heard the continuous gun fire from inside the school building. When there was no sound of gunshot being fired, Suhyeok felt Areum begin to relax and he removed his hand on top of her, making the black haired girl slightly pulled away from Suhyeok embraced. Seconds later, the surviving students watched three of the military soldiers reappear as they climbed the rope to the school rooftop.

“Where’s the package?” The team leader asked his subordinate. Both Areum and Suhyeok instantly spotted one of the soldiers pointed toward the backpack that he carried. Sighing in relief, Areum watched the soldier pull out harnesses from their bag for the students.

“Ready for extraction.” The leader mentioned over their radio system. Then, out of nowhere, the helicopter began to move to the rooftop, hovering above the students as well as the soldiers.

The four military soldiers then began to move forward however the leader of the team stopped his movement when he clearly saw Areum’s face. Turning to face the girl that was being held closer to the tall boy’s side, the special mission team leader finally realised who the girl was.

“By any chance, are you one of the former director Son Jungho’s grandchildren?” The officer asked her, surprising Areum, Wujin as well as Suhyeok when the leader of the soldier realised she was one of their former director’s grandchildren.

“That’s…that’s right. He’s my grandfather. Our grandfather, actually.” Areum shuttered before releasing one of her hands from her ear to point her finger to Wujin, who nodded along his head after hearing her respond.

“Sir, we’ve found director Son’s grandchildren.” The leader voiced over the radio system. Moment of silence then surrounded them for a few seconds as the officer listened to his headpiece from the higher authorities for their next order.

“Yes, I understand, sir.” He responded.

“Prepare to leave.” The leader commanded the other three soldiers before he turned to look at both Areum and Wujin.

“I’ve been told that three of his grandchildren went to this school. Where’s the other one?” The team leader asked the two cousins.

“We don't know where Hari noona went. But I’m sure she would hide somewhere safe.” Wujin stated as he kept wrapping his arm around Namra as a comfort.

“We’ll rescue the rest later. For now, we’ll rescue the rest of you first.” The leader claimed over the loud whirring helicopter sound. Before the two cousins could protest, the leader of the Special Mission team turned to look at the rest of the students’ bodies.

“We’ll pull you up one at a time. Stay still even if you’re scared. Okay?” The team leader announced in a loud voice, causing some of the young teens, especially Jimin,  to look up at the bright light of the helicopter.

“You’re not landing the chopper?” Jimin anxiously asked when she saw the helicopter kept hovering above them.

“We can’t. It can get unstable. So, one of the officers will pull you up, so don’t worry.” The team leader reassured the young students as they turned their attention to watch one of the soldiers being slowly pulled into the helicopter.

“You can’t go all at once, so let’s go one by one.” The leader mentioned, making the group of students confused.

“We can’t all go?” Cheongsan asked, as shock could evidently be seen through his facial expression.

“We can take all of you but it has to be one by one.” The military officer soothed the confused students.

With the cold and strong wind coming from the helicopter, Suhyeok was worried as he quickly lifted his eyes toward the helicopter before shifting them toward Areum, only to see the beauty was covering both of her ears as well as chattering her teeth due to the loud sound as well as the cold temperature from the wind.

“Jimin-ah. You go first.” Onjo suggested, fully aware the girl in the green vest wanted to leave the school as soon as possible.

“You go first. Go first.” Joonyeong stated as he gently pushed the girl toward the two armed soldiers. The girl in the green vest walked hesitated to the two soldier before looking back at her friends

“You go first.” Daesu voiced in happiness, seeing one of his friends on the verge of being rescued. Then, the group of students watched as the soldiers prepared the harness around Jimin’s body before letting the girl be pulled slowly up toward the helicopter.

Once Jimin was pulled up to the helicopter, one of the soldiers then waved his hand toward the rest of the students, an action motioning one of them to come forward to them, in order for the armed soldiers to prepare the harness around the students.

Seeing the motion from the soldier, Deasu instantly pushed Hyeryeong forward as the soldier began to wrap the harness around her. Then, out of nowhere, the special mission team leader faced away from the surviving students while his colleagues continued fixing the harness on the short haired girl. The armed soldier listened to the headpiece from the upper authorities.

“Please repeat. Do you mean everyone?” The leader asked, loud enough for the group of friends to overhear it. Areum frowned her eyebrows when she had a bad feeling after overhearing the soldier questioning the order from the high authorities.

“But their temperatures are fine. And besides, two of the students are former Director Son’s grandchildren.” He argued with someone over the radio system on his headpiece.

“But they’re just children.” He insisted before looking at the students after hearing further details from the higher authorities.

“Understood. Over.”

“Cancel the operation. We'll just take the package and pull out!” The team leader commanded his other colleagues, making the students stare in disbelief at the soldiers after hearing his order.

Then, the sound of clinking above them could be heard, causing all of the young  students to look up as Jimin slowly came down to the rooftop.

“Sir! I’m going back down.” Jimin anxiously claimed as she slowly descended from the helicopter.

“She’s coming down.” Daesu pointed his index finger to his friend. Both Areum and Suhyeok watched as the two military soldiers quickly took off the harness away from Hyeryeong.

“Why did you take that off? Wait a minute. What’s wrong?” Hyeryoeng frantically argued after they undo the harness from her body. One of the soldiers then shoved the short haired girl toward the rest of the group of students.

“What operation is this?” Wujin yelled in anger after witnessing the rescue mission was being canceled without any explanation or further details.

“What are you doing? What is this?” Jimin asked in confusion, seeing the soldiers started to  remove the harness away from her.

“Please just pull me back up. Pull me back up! God, damn it! I’m not going back.” Jimin cried as she fighted the two soldiers from pushing her away to the rest of her friends.

“I’m not going. I’m not going back. Take me with you! I’m not going. Sir. Please.” The girl in the green vest frantically pleaded as the two soldiers shoved her to the group of teens.

“I want to get out of here!” Jimin remarked as she approached the soldiers. However, all of the students were in shock when one of the armed men began to point their gun at Jimin. One by one, the young students took a step forward and stood beside the pleading girl, protecting Jimin from the pointed gun.

“Please. Take me with you!” Jimin cried as tears slid down her face.

“Why won’t you take us with you?” Hyeryeong whimpered in fear.

“Come on, sir!” Daesu shouted in frustration.

“W-wait a second.” Joonyeong spluttered in fear with both of his palms faced toward the soldier. “What’s wrong with you? We’re fine. We’re not zombies.”

All of the students' cries were being ignored by the team leader as he kept aiming his gun at each of them. Behind the two armed soldiers, the students saw one of their colleagues was pulled up to the helicopter.

“Stand back!” The leader commanded as he stepped forward to intimidate the young students while aiming his gun at them, causing the group of friends to take several steps back in fear of the thought of actually being shot.

“Stand back or we’ll shoot.” He sternly instructed as his other colleague also aimed his gun at the students.

“Ajusshi!” Areum shouted in anger after seeing her friends’ cries being disregarded by the officers while aiming the guns at them. The black haired girl quickly moved her way toward the soldier in anger, leaving Suhyeok’s side.

“What are you doing? Why can’t you take us with you?” Areum questioned in frustration once she stood in front of the soldier as the gun he was holding aimed a few meters close to her figure. Seeing the gun pointed to the girl he likes, Suhyeok  quickly dashed toward Areum and gently pulled her away from the aimed gun.

“Please! If you still have humanity values, just take some of us with you, sir!” Areum yelled as she struggled to remain on her spot with Suhyeok’s pulling her away from the pointed gun.

The Special Mission team leader did not respond as he felt pressure from hearing both the command from the high authorities on his earpieces and the students’ pleas. Then, out of nowhere, he quickly aimed his gun toward the empty spot of where both Areum and Suhyeok was standing and started shooting rapidly.

Quick to his reflex, Suhyeok pulled Areum by her waist to his side when the soldier fired the gun near the spot they were standing. Some of the teenagers immediately drop to the ground and let out a shriek and scream of terror after witnessing the soldier rapidly shooting the gun near them.

“Ajusshi! Please!” The black haired girl begged.

The black haired girl took steps closer to the armed men as tears trimmed over her eyes and completely ignored Suhyeok, who was worried and afraid of her safety pleading for her to not get near the soldier.

Even though the beauty bravely took a few steps and begged to the soldier, Suhyeok also followed behind her with his hands still grasping hers, not completely letting go of their intertwined hands while noticing one of the soldiers being pulled up to the helicopter.

“Please take just a few of us with you.” Cheongsan pleaded as the only remaining soldier stayed silent.

When he saw Cheongsan take steps forward, the team leader of the military soldiers instantly fired the gunshot on the empty spot beside Areum and Suhyeok before cocking the gun back at the students. Unknown to the soldier, one of the bullets grazed on Areum’s left upper arm, causing the girl to gasp in pain.

“What’s wrong, Rumnie-yah?” Suhyeok asked when he heard the beauty gasping in pain. The tall boy quickly scanned her body for any injuries until his eyes spotted her left upper arm slowly began to bleed.

“Yah! Your arm’s bleeding.” Suhyeok claimed in surprise as he quickly placed his hand on her upper arm to stop the bleeding.

Hearing the tall boy’s claims, all of the surviving students glanced over at the class vice president and saw Suhyeok’s hand was covered in blood as he stopped the bleeding on Areum’s upper arm. All of the students held shock expressions when the soldier was actually capable of hurting a student using the gun.

“Ajusshi! What are you doing?” Suhyeok yelled in anger at the soldier, who slowly walked backward from the students to the dangling harness.

“I’m sorry.” He apologised as he eyed every student in front of him. Then, his eyes lingered at Areum and Suhyeok and watched them with regret before clasping the hook to the harness on his body.

All of the surviving students watch with lost hope as the last remaining soldier slowly ascends to the helicopter. Then, they continued to watch as the helicopter slowly flew away from the school building, abandoning them without any further explanation.

“They abandoned us. Didn’t they?” Hyeryeong whimpered as she watched the helicopter becoming smaller.

“No one will come to save us now, right?” The short haired girl cried, tears escaping from her eyes.

“Why did they do that?” Joonyeong asked in disbelief after witnessing the military soldiers abandon them.

“Maybe…they thought all of us were already fucking zombies.” Daesu suggested as he watched his friend’s disbelief expression.

“Then, they would have killed us.” Joonyeong logically mentioned. “They wouldn’t have left us here alive if they thought that.” He continued.

Completely disregarding his friends, Suhyeok slowly brought Areum to sit against the wall of the rooftop while keeping his hand on her bleeding arm.

“Wujin-ah, Prez! Can you guys search for the first aid kit on the bags?” The tall boy instructed the pair. The two students instantly nodded their heads and searched for the first aid kit on the bags that they brought from the broadcasting room.

While the four students were completely dismissed of what the rest of the friends were doing, the rest of the surviving students watched Cheongsan letting his rage by stomping his shoes on the lit fire.

“What are you doing?” Onjo asked, pulling Cheongsan away from the extinguished fire.

“It’s pointless.” Cheongsan remarked, pulling his hand away from Onjo.

“No one’s coming. No one else is coming.” The boy in the green vest continued. Then, Cheongsan kicked the wooden planks and metal pipes from the ‘SOS’ sign that they created earlier before letting out a shout in frustration.
