²⁹do i want to be saved?

y/n suddenly opened her eyes from the sudden whirring, as well as her friends footsteps. she felt somebody shake her, then help her stand up. she turned her head towards wu-jin (who had helped her up), then to the helicopter who was nearing them.

the boy then dragged her with him, to where everyone had been waving their arms again, trying to catch the helicopters' attention. y/n was confused; why had they come back? surely it wasn't because they had come back to rescue them. y/n tried to think of plausible reasons on why they would return, but none had surfaced.

she was held up by wu-jin, the boy's right arm around her waist while the other one was waving at the helicopter, yelling at the helicopter as if that would catch its attention. y/n looked down to her left leg, standing on it carelessly to see if it was still limp.Β

barely. she managed to stand on it properly, but her knee buckled immediately. she slowly took wu-jin's arm off of her, the boy turning his sight of direction towards her. he furrowed his brow in confusion, y/n shaking her head and smiling. "i can stand now. thank you."

he wasn't convinced. he looked down at her leg, which had dried blood all over it, bent at the joint and shaking slightly. "no you can't-"

"i'm okay. promise." y/n assured him with a genuine smile. wu-jin pouted, but nodded nonetheless. as he began to wave an arm again for the helicopter, y/n walked back to the camp fire. listening to her thoughts from before, that the adults wouldn't have known there were any teenagers left.Β

she grabbed the water bottle she was drinking out of earlier, drinking the remaining liquid. she watched behind the others, as they excitedly waved their hands, hugging each other, as they believed they were now being rescued. the helicopters light then shone on them, the wind force of the propellers hitting them, causing them to step back.Β

y/n simply drank the water, her other hand in her pocket. her neck then twitched inhumanely, eyes closing as the sound of the vehicle had grown louder and louder upon nearing them. her noise senses felt wild, somewhat causing a small sting towards her ear drums. she then turned her head to nam-ra, who had her hands pressed on her ears hard.Β

y/n hummed, sadly. it must be hurting her more...

she was a few steps back from the others, away from the light of the helicopter. she could see what was currently happening, as military soldiers threw their ropes down, and had hopped down to the surface. they held their guns towards them, causing y/n to widen her eyes.Β

she looked down to the ground, eyes darting to the knife as she kicked it behind her, somewhat hidden away from the soldiers vision. "get down. all of you." she heard one of them say.Β

"sir." dae-su started softly, slowly bringing his hands up in surrender. " can you help us?"

"i said get down! face down on the ground! get down!" everyone listened to the armed man yelling, slowly getting down on their knees.Β

y/n obliged with the commands, the girl carefully walking back near the group and getting down on the floor, head facing down on the ground. she listened intently as they walked around them, scanning them with something. it was her turn, the person scanning her with most likely a surface thermometer, hearing a small beep after.Β

after a few beeps or so, they were finished, "one of them has hypothermia, the rest are normal."

she was right beside one of the soldiers, and with her heightened hearing, she was able to make out what the person who was instructing them had said. "finish the objective first, then rescue them."

she scoffed mentally. so she was right, their first intention was not to rescue the, but something else. "you guys can stand up now."Β

she stood up as everyone had did, the person who was beside her had grabbed her wrist. y/n turned her head, seeing on-jo holding her, scared. y/n, not knowing what to do, blankly placed her other hand on top of on-jo's.Β

"are you the only survivors?" one of the soldiers asked.

cheong-san answered. "we don't know, there are probably others."

the soldier nodded. "we are going down for a few minutes. wait right here."

ji-min pushed through them, now standing at the front. "are you not going to rescue us?"

they nodded. "yes, we will. so stay here. don't do anything, just wait here. understand?"

everyone had nodded, humming as they had understood.

y/n didn't know whether to be glad that they were being saved, or the opposite. if they were to saved, they would be going back to their lives before the whole zombie fiasco had started. though, when she thinks about it, her life before this zombie apocalypse was... sad. the only time she would have fun, was when she would be fighting someone - and even then, it was never that joyful as everyone was so much weaker than her. she didn't have many friends, and she didn't have any family to spend time with. her life was plain, and full of neglect.Β

the only times she would be happy was when she spent time with the jang siblings, and maybe even with some people from her class or her uncle. i guess, her time wandering around the school was also fun. it was how she managed to know a few other students outside of her class.Β

eun-ji. remember her? y/n had met her in that currently-constructing building beside their school, the girl being bullied and pushed around by gwi-nam's group. deciding to be nice (hiding the fact that she was truly just bored and wanted to annoy someone), she decided to help the girl and taunt and beat up the people bullying her.

y/n easily won, obviously. she managed to beat the others, stopping as someone had grabbed her from her shoulders, pulling her away. that someone was gwi-nam. i guess you could say that she piqued his interests. normally if someone had beat him and his 'friends' up, he would beat the person as well.

but he didn't do that to her. it was fear, you could say. as well as admiration. the fact that his "friends" were on the floor, pathetically trying to get up and run away as they were just beat up by this girl, who honestly looked like couldn't do much harm but whack you with a stick.Β

he was scared of her power and strength, yet admired it underneath his mask of being the world's biggest dickhead.Β

after that, those bullies would try to catch y/n off guard and get revenge on her, but would always fail as they were simply like punching bags to her. so they steered clear of her way, not wanting to be humiliated any further.

it was also how she met ha-ri and wu-jin. the three had gone to the same middle school, ha-ri being in the grade two years above wu-jin and y/n. y/n was treated like an outcast during this time of her life, and so people would stay away from her and even push her around.Β

y/n had just been locked inside a bathroom stall, locked from the outside as some older girls had placed superglue around the lock. she had shaken the door multiple times, but to no avail, it did not budge. y/n was still young, her feelings were still strong and there. so, she was scared. she stayed inside that stall for a few minutes or so, crying as she anxiously bit her fingernails.Β

she heard the door of the girl's bathroom open a few times, but no one had tried to help her. after another few minutes of gathering her thoughts, she got out of the stall.

she had to break the lock to get out, and by then class had already started. so she didn't bother turning up to class, just merely wandering around the school. it was fifth period either way, and she already had her bag with her, so she wouldn't need to go back to class.

she could go home, yes, but it was also lonely there, inside that large mansion that only she, a few maids, and every once in a while, her father, lived in. so she decided to wander around the school. she had stumbled upon the second gym, where archery students used to practice. the door was slightly open, and y/n could hear arrows whizzing at a fast rate.Β

she peeked her head in, seeing a lone girl focused on aiming her arrows at the target, a few arrows breaking over each other as they hit the middle. that girl was ha-ri, and y/n was immediately in awe of her skills.Β

"uwaa!!! that was so cool!!" a young y/n exclaimed, startling ha-ri. said-girl smiled unsurely, putting the bow down as y/n entered the gym and walked closer to ha-ri. "woah! how'd you do that so good!? the way the arrow just destroyed the other one- oh my!!!"

ha-ri chuckled lightly. "thank you... aren't you my underclassman? why are you out of class?"Β

y/n ignored what she had said, not wanting to talk about what had just happened previously. the wide smile on her face didn't falter though, as she pointed her hands to a spare set of bow and arrows. "can you teach me how to that??!! i want to be able to that to! that was so cool!"

"don't you need to go back to class though?" ha-ri asked again, softly.

y/n's smile faltered, the girl shaking her head as she looked down to the ground. "no... i... don't want to go. people are..." y/n then looked back up, gripping the straps of her bag tightly. "i apologise for disrupting your training session! i didn't mean to be a burden! please forget i was here!"

ha-ri then widened her eyes, as the girl turned around an began to walk away. "ah! sorry! i didn't mean it that way!"

y/n then stopped, turning back around. she tilted her head to side, confused as ha-ri tried to continue what she was trying to say.

ha-ri wasn't dumb. she had noticed how the girl's eyes were red, and how her face looked like it had dry tear stains on it. at first, she had assumed that y/n was just one of the younger girls in their school who were so full of themselves, that once ha-ri had decided to decline, they would throw a tantrum and angrily leave them gym. so y/n was apologising like that was definitely new to her.

"i'm sorry, i was just curious. you don't have to talk about it, if you want." the odd vibes she got from the girl had disappeared, as she had realised that she was just in need of leaving the harshness of this world. ha-ri has had a taste of said harshness, and what she needed to distract herself form that, was archery. "i can teach you how to use a bow and arrow. grab the spare over there and stand next to me."

y/n's expression grew excited, joyfully walking over to the item and then going over to ha-ri, as the older girl taught her the basics of shooting a bow and arrow. then later that day, ha-ri invited y/n to her house. having nothing to do, y/n agreed, in which she then met wu-jin later on.Β

y/n walked over to the balcony concrete wall (?), sitting down and leaning her back against it. she turned her head over to the side, seeing the soldiers go plant some object to the floor, and then let a rope down.Β

her eyes darted over to the gun that the soldier was holding, having a feeling that she should be devising a plan on how she should steal one, or two.Β
