14; woah.

chapter XIV.

san hastily made his way towards the city that he'd wanted absolutely nothing to do with in the past. he wanted to stay as far away from humans at all times as possible.

but for once, he had to put his personal opinion to the side and focus on the main picture. it was a rumor going around the town that seonghwa's family had finally pin pointed his location. san immediately believed it and sprung into action, taking a trip to the human town to warn his friend.

it took him no time to arrive on the balcony his friend talked fondly about. he instantly knew it was the right apartment when he spotted two jack-o-lanterns lighting up the corner of the porch. one displayed a typical scary face while the other one displayed tiny bats cut out of it.

not wasting anymore time, he flung open the glass door, only to be met with dead silence.

"hello?!" he called through the apartment. why were they gone from
the home this late at night?

"uhm.. who are you?" he heard a frightened voice questioning from behind him. he turned around, annoyance visible on his face.

he was not expecting to see the most beautiful creature he had ever laid his eyes on in the middle of his friend's apartment.

"woah.." they both muttered under their breath. san quickly shook those thoughts away, it was a very inappropriate time to get distracted.

"i am san. where's seonghwa?" his tone fell back to a cold one again.

"nice to meet you, san. i'm wooyoung." he replied sarcastically. "i'm not sure. i'm assuming they went grocery shopping. alsoβ€” how did you get in here?"

san groaned as he weakly pointed to the balcony. why did wooyoung have so many questions? it was undoubtedly not the right time.

"wait..." the younger glanced at the door then back at san. "don't tell me you're a..."

"yes! now can you stop asking questions for one moment! this situation is extremely serious."

the human frowned as he fell to the couch. "your face does not match your personality one bit..."

san pressed his lips together and stared at the human. he certainly couldn't deny the obvious fact that wooyoung was attractive. wooyoung's snarky comments also sparked an interest in the vampire's heart too.

originally, he would've immediately left the apartment after warning the pair. but since the two were no where to be found he decided to sit down on the couch next to wooyoung.

"well... you are certainly lucky i am here to protect you. i'll.. i'll keep you company a bit longer." san sputtered out. wooyoung smirked at the sound of san's voice breaking.

"protection from what? hm?"

"you will learn once seonghwa and yeosang arrive."

the human pouted at his response. san tried to ignore the feeling of his heart pounding faster at the adorable sight in front of him. he couldn't change his opinion just because of a mere interaction with a slightly attractive human.

ever since he'd learned the story about his parents when he was young, he vowed not to get involved with the human world.

san is not a pureblood vampireβ€” he's half human half vampire. his mom and dad were madly in love with each other, almost like star-crossed lovers. when his grandparents found out his mother had been seeing a vampire, and that she was pregnant, they disowned her. by that time, his dad had also fled the town, leaving her alone just like the others had done.

once she gave birth to san she didn't have anywhere where to go, so she decided to send him up the mountains, to a vampire orphanage. she loved san deeply, but she thought he'd have a better chance at a normal life around other vampires.

because of his parents' past, the thought of interacting with humans made him near physically ill at times. how could they be so cruel to leave their own daughter?

but looking at wooyoung, san did not feel sick one bit. if anything, looking at wooyoung made san feel 100 times better than how he felt before. he couldn't tell where the feelings were exactly coming from, but they felt completely different than anything he'd ever felt before.

the two waited for the couple to come back home for what seemed like hours. eventually, they both grew tired of waiting. they'd pretty much talked the whole time to cure boredom.

wooyoung could tell that san was somewhat warming up to him as their stay came to an end. he had to admit that after actually sitting down and talking to the vampire, his personality wasn't as bad as he originally thought.

san studied his watch and stood up to leave. "well, seems as if they're not coming back any time soon. i'll be back to alert them tomorrow."

"oh... okay. then i'll be here tomorrow too." the human replied.

san chuckled at wooyoung's weak attempt to flirt as he made his way back out to the balcony.

before he left he made sure to turn back and reply to wooyoung,

"i'll be expecting your presence tomorrow, then."
