Chapter 8

Legolas and yourself made your way to the throne room of the King.  He was causally sitting on his throne when the two of you arrived.  You had just finished taste testing for your wedding cake and dishes when the King had summoned you.

"Ah Legolas, (Y/N), I am sorry to pull you away from wedding plans but I have urgent business we must speak about." Thranduil said while standing and walking towards the two of you.

"How can we be of assistance father?" Legolas asked.

Thranduil motioned for the two of you to follow him into a small room off to the side.  "Let us speak a little more privately," he stated.  You knew this room to be his personal office chambers, rarely did he allow anyone other than Legolas to enter this room.  As you entered you noticed that it was sophisticated and clean, but had very little personal touches.  The one painting was of him and Legolas and a beautiful woman with silver-white hair.  This had to be Legolas' mother, he never talked about her, but you imaged that it was because she died while he was still young.

Thranduil caught you looking at the painting and smiled a sad smile for a second before clearing his throat and drawing your attention away from the painting.

Thranduil poured three glasses of water and handed you and Legolas each a glass.  Then he began speaking.  "I have just gotten word from Lord Elrond of Rivendell, there is an urgent matter that will determine the fate of all of Middle Earth.  The one ring has been found, and now it must be destroyed."  He finished.  Legolas and yourself stood silent for a moment waiting for him to continue, but he didn't.  Everyone knew the tale of the one ring, however it had passed beyond memory for some time.

Thranduil continued, "unfortunately, Lord Elrond sent no more details on the matter other than asking for each of the great kingdoms to send a representative to a secret council where the fate of the ring would be decided."  Thranduil took a deep breath before continuing.  "I would like the two of you to go and be my representatives at this meeting."

Legolas and yourself looked at each other seeming to be communicating through thought alone.  "(Y/N), you know I would follow you wherever you go, this decision is up to you."  Legolas said taking your hand in his.

You smiled gratefully at him and then turned to the King.  "When does the council commence?"

"In five days, you would need to leave immediately."  Thranduil answered.

"Legolas what about our wedding?" you asked him turning your attention back to your fiance.  He only looked at you like he had no good answer.  Your smile fell, you had a duty to your kingdom, but you were looking forward to marrying Legolas soon.

"You will likely be back before we would even need to postpone," Thranduil said, "I will continue to make preparations while you are both gone, I promise you will have this wedding." he finished.

You looked at the King gratefully, happy to be on such good terms with him.  "It is settled then," Legolas stated, "(Y/N) and I will leave at first light tomorrow and head for Rivendell, we will take a small company of soldiers with us and return before the wedding."  He smiled at you and practically pulled you out of the room.  You nodded your thanks to the king and slipped through the doorway.

Noben was waiting for us outside in the throne room and looked grateful that there was no screaming happening.

"Noben, prepare a small company for a voyage to Rivendell, we leave first thing in the morning," Legolas ordered.

"Yes my lord," Noben responded nodding his head and heading off in a different direction.

Legolas kept talking about preparations for the morning all the way back to your room.  "Legolas, slow down, I am sure Noben can handle it just fine," you said with a smile holding his shoulders so he stopped in front of you.

He smiled back at you and took your face in his hands.  "I know my love, I am just anxious to get out of this place for a while." he replied honestly.

"I know, we can consider this assignment an early honeymoon," you giggled leaning up to place a playful kiss on his nose.

"Oh is that what we will be doing?" Legolas responded with a smile.  He suddenly picked you up off the ground and carried you over to the bed.  You wrapped your legs around his waist so as not to fall and he walked you across the room.  He laid you down gently and kissed you whispering sweet nothings into your ear as the the sun went down and night took over.
