Chapter 9

The next morning, before dawn, you and Legolas were on your way out of the palace with Noben and a few other guards that were going to accompany you to Rivendell.  Legolas had let you sleep in a little bit by packing your bags on your horse and laying out your travelling outfit on the couch next to your bed.

Legolas gently brushed his hand on your cheek to wake you when it was time to go.  "Good morning my love, it is time to head out, I have your things packed."

You rolled over lazily and smiled at him gratefully.  "Thank you, I'll get changed and be ready."  You sat up and grabbed your outfit before heading into your large bathroom.  You quickly changed and tightened your armor around your wrists and abdomen.  You then carefully styled and braided your long red hair out of the way.  You looked in the mirror and smiled at yourself.  You were not one for vanity, but you had to admit that you looked stunning in your travelling outfit.  The armor over your clothing fit you perfectly and flattered your figure in all the right places.  Your hair was out of the way and practical, but yet beautiful and flowing at the same time.

You opened the bathroom door and walked back out to see Legolas.  He was casually leaning on your bed waiting for you.  He looked you up and down and jumped out of the bed to stand in front of you.  His face was inches from yours as he whispered, "(Y/N) I will never get used to how absolutely stunning you are."  You did not respond, instead you leapt into his arms and kissed him passionately.  After a few moments you both pulled away breathlessly and smiled at one another.

You walked out of your room hand in hand and made your way to the front gates where your horses and the rest of the company awaited.  "I am grateful, you chose to be by my side, (Y/N), I know there are plenty of people who have tried to win your heart over the years."

You smiled at him.  It was true that many men had tried to court you over the years, however you denied them all.  "I have only ever had eyes for you," you responded smiling back at Legolas.  Sometimes, men still came knocking on your door hoping that you consider their requests trying to change your mind before your wedding, they did not die down even after Legolas threatened most of them.  It did not bother you that much, you could beat them all if it came to that.

Legolas and yourself arrived at the gates.  Legolas held your horse, Denaie (den-a-he), as you settled into the saddle.  Legolas also mounted his horse and the company was off.  Thranduil had hand picked the soldiers to accompany you, although Legolas insisted that Noben come along.  It made you nervous that Thranduil had picked these soldiers, you were not entirely convinced of his new attitude towards you.

You travelled through the day and made it out of Mirkwood forests without incident.  It was getting dark when Legolas suggested that we made camp in a small grove of trees on the plains about 3 miles from the edge of Mirkwood.

Noben instructed the other soldiers to set up the tents and to get a fire going.  You dismounted Denaie and walked over to Legolas.  "I am going to take a look around, make sure we are alone," you said to him taking your bow off of your back.

"I can go with you," he suggested grabbing your shoulder protectively.

You smiled at him and shook your head, "I can handle myself, Legolas, I am not fragile." You turned to leave but he spun you around by the shoulders and moved his hands to gently cradle your face.

"I know you can handle yourself, (Y/N), but that does not mean I will ever stop trying to protect you."  Legolas whispered to you.

You placed a gentle yet loving kiss on his lips and lifted yourself up to whisper in his ear, "I know you won't, I'll be back soon, wait up for me and I will make it up to you."  Legolas inhaled sharply at your words, but before he could reply you were gone.
