Chapter 23

You and Legolas spent a few hours on the balcony enjoying the view and the sunshine, something that was rare in Mirkwood.  Cressida and Ren had brought you both a light lunch and stayed close by if you needed anything.  You had invited them both to join you for lunch which they gratefully accepted and quietly dismissed themselves after eating.

The sun had risen to it's full height when Cressida and Ren came back to you and politely cleared their throats.  "Lady (Y/N), Lord Legolas," Cressida said nodding to you both, "My lord Elrond has summoned all to his council chambers for the meeting in a few moments."

Legolas and yourself got up from the blanket you were comfortably lounging on and walked towards the sisters.  "My lady, Cressida and I have picked out a beautiful outfit for you to wear to the meeting," Ren said a small blush forming on her cheeks, "it is a gift from us for being so kind."

You smiled at them both with a hand on each of their shoulders, "my friends, it is I who should have gotten gifts for you, you have taken such good care of me."  They each returned your smile, "would you both help me get the outfit on?"

They nodded to you with smiles before leading you to the room you had been staying in.  Legolas excused himself to change as well and promised to meet you in the hallway before going to the chambers.

Displayed in your room was one of the most gorgeous dresses you had ever seen.  You walked up to it running your fingers over the light and delicate fabric.  You turned to the sisters with a small tear building up in your eyes.  Never has someone done something this nice for you.

Cressida and Ren smiled at you, "we made a few alterations for it to fit your style," Ren said coming up to you.

"We know you said you had so few nice dresses because you were always warrior first, so we wanted you to have something for another occasion," Cressida added.

"It's beautiful," you responded.  They helped you get into the dress and quickly styled your hair in an elegant yet functional style.

The sisters finished their work and opened the door to the hallway.  Legolas was waiting for you just outside the door in his own formal clothes.  His mouth dropped when he saw you, "(Y/N) you will absolutely beautiful."

You smiled and nodded at him, "thank you, you look quite handsome yourself."  Neither of you were used to formal clothing, but it was nice to get out of your typical traveling or comfortable clothes.  Legolas held out his arm to you and you gently looped your arm through his falling into step with him.

Cressida and Ren quietly led the two of you through the halls of the palace before gesturing to an open council room.  Legolas and yourself were the first to arrive, but not the last.  You gracefully walked into the council room and sat next to Noben on the right side of a circle of chairs.  Also present was a group of men which sat directly across from you, but there were still more open seats around the circle.

Lord Elrond nodded to you both as you took a seat and you returned the nod respectfully.  Cressida and Ren, who held their heads bowed in the presence of the other guests, collected your shawl and nodded to the area in which they would be waiting for you after the meeting.  You smiled at them as you shrugged off your shall exposing your bare shoulders and collar bone.  They each shot you a knowing smile and walked out of the chambers.

You, Legolas and Noben made small talk about your health, the condition of the others and your forces while you waited for the others to arrive.  Soon a group of dwarves arrived and took the seats next to Legolas which warrented and eye roll from your fiance.  Elves and Dwarves have a long history, one you never quite understood yourself, but you laughed at Legolas' reaction and gently placed a calming hand on his thigh.

A wizard and a hobbit arrived also, although at first you thought the hobbit was a child.  You recognized the wizard as Gandalf the Grey.  Legolas had told you about him, he was supposedly one of the good ones, but you kept your distance all the same.

Finally a single man arrived with his hood still up covering his face, he kept to the edge of the chambers and did not take a seat.  His eyes lingered on you for a moment too long and it made you a little uneasy and you could not see his face, but he was clearly meant to be there as Lord Elrond nodded to him and cleared his throat.

"Strangers from distant lands, friends of old, you have been summoned here to answer the treat of Mordor," Lord Elrond began, "Middle Earth stands on the brink of destruction, you must unite or you will fall."  Lord Elrond paused for a moment, "bring forth the ring, Frodo."
