Chapter 3

Light was shining through your window.  You lifted your head slowly as your head was pounding, a bad side effect of a concussion.  Legolas was still beside you but when you moved he opened his eyes.  "Well come on lazy one, we're going to be late for patrol," you laughed while starting to sit up and get out of bed.

"Oh no you don't," Legolas said quickly grabbing your shoulders and laying you back down.

"But we have to patrol," you exasperated, you hated being cooped up and wanted nothing more than to get out of bed despite the pain in your body.  "I can handle it," you said before trying to get up again.

Legolas grabbed your shoulders again laying you back down before placing his arm across your abdomen to make sure you did not get up again.  "The nurse already spoke with father and he is having someone cover both are responsibilities until you have healed."  Legolas explained planting a kiss on your cheek.  "You need to rest."

"But I want to get out, you know I can't stay in bed all day," you explained throwing your hands up in the air in frustration.

Legolas kissed your cheek again before holding your gaze.  "Don't worry (Y/N), I have plans for us today."  he stated looking very excited.

"Okay" you responded.  "what should I wear?" you asked him while getting out of bed and making your way to your closet.

"You look good in anything," he responded still laying in bed watching you look through your clothes.

You turned to him with a frustrated look that quickly turned into a smile.  He was so handsome, you have always wondered how a prince like him fell in love with a warrior like yourself, but he was truly the most beautiful person you had ever seen.  "You know how incredibly unhelpful that is," you laughed at him.

"I know," he responded before finally getting out of bed and pulling on his clothes that he folded neatly on a chair in the corner of your room.  You elected for a comfortable pair of brown pants and dark green tunic that fit you like a glove.  You finished off the look with a pair of brown boots and braided your hair in your usual half up braided style.

"Ready?"  Legolas asked.  You noticed that his eyes lingered on your outfit for a few extra seconds.  You nodded in response as he walked over and picked you up bridal style before walking out of the door and heading for the front gate.  The two of you were laughing the whole way.

"Where are you taking me?" you asked as Legolas led you through a group of trees.

"You will see," he said with a smile.  The trees eventually gave way to a beautiful clearing with a creek running through it.  An elaborate blanket was set up on the green grass by the water.  There was a picnic basket set up next to the blanket containing all of your favorite foods.

Legolas set you down on the blanket, "I knew you wouldn't want to spend your day in your bed, so how about we spend the day outside?" he explained while sitting down next to you and beginning to unpack the picnic basket.

"Oh Legolas, it's perfect." you said while accepting some food he offered you.  You finished the food and spent the rest of the day talking and laughing and genuinely enjoying each others company.

As the sun began to set you were both laying on your stomachs near the water.  You were dangling your fingers in the water while Legolas laid next to you watching you and absentmindedly playing with strand of your hair.

Legolas suddenly sat up and looked very scared.  "What's wrong?" you asked him slightly concerned.

"(Y/N), we have been together for what seem like forever and every time we are apart I find myself missing only you and wishing you were always at my side. I have never loved someone as much as I love you."  At this point a few tears were brimming in your eyes threatening to spill over.

He reached over into his pocket and pulled out a small box.  "(Y/N) I have wanted to give you this for a long time."  He opened the box and inside was the most beautiful ring you had ever seen, it was bright gold and silver with intertwining branches.  "It was my grandmother's, and then my mother's and now it is yours." You could see tears gloss his eyes.  "And with it I make a promise to forever be by your side, if you would have me?" he asked before holding the ring out to you.

"Of course, Legolas, I love you so much." you took the ring and placed it on your finger before leaping into his arms and holding him tightly.  You held your embrace until the sun had long disappeared.

The moon was high in the sky when you finally decided to head back.  "We should get inside love, it is getting pretty cold." You nodded in response and headed back to main gate fingers entwined with Legolas'.

You were absentmindedly looking into the sky when you spotted a shooting star. "Legolas look!" you said pulling his arm back so that he would stop.  You pointed up to the sky and he saw what you were pointing at.

"Let's make a wish," he suggested.  You spun him around so that he was inches from your face and wrapped your arms around his neck.

"I have everything I could have ever wished for." you whispered into his ear.  Without another word he pulled you to him and kissed you with a urgency he never had before.

Then you heard an awkward cough behind you and you both pulled apart a small blush appearing on your cheeks.  "Sir, King Thranduil requests your presence."

"Thank you Noben." Legolas responded before taking my hand again and leading the way into the palace.  Legolas led you through the winding stairs to the throne of the king.

You approached the high throne of King Thranduil and saw that he was sitting comfortably in his throne, his elaborate crown sitting on his head.  "I thought I requested your presence son, not you and your friend." he stated his voice ringing.

"Father, what do you need?" Legolas asked gripping your hand tighter and pulling you closer.

"I request (Y/N) return to her chambers for I wish to speak to my son."  He responded his voice getting louder.  You turned to leave but Legolas turned you back around and held you even tighter before speaking to his father in a commanding voice of his own.

"Whatever you have to say, you can say to my finace as well." Legolas responded while drawing attention to the ring he placed on your finger.  Thanduil's eyes softened for a moment as he stood from his throne and made his way towards you.

"So, this is who you have chosen?" Thranduil asked as he got closer and closer to where the two of you stood.

"Yes, Ada," Legolas answered, "I love (Y/N) very much."  Thanduil got very close to you and bent down to look you directly in the eyes, his eyes were soft.  Then in an instant his eyes were cold and he stood up and made his way back to his throne.

"I do not approve Legolas," he responded in a calm yet commanding voice.  "You cannot love son, love is dangerous, love is cruel, love will only leave you in pain."  Thranduil continued before taking a seat on his throne again.

Legolas looked angry as he tucked you under his arm and led you back to your room.  His arm was around you like he was shielding you from the gaze of his father.  "I care not for your approval and intend to marry her all the same." Legolas stated over his shoulder and you went back to your room.
