Chapter 27

You had all retired to your rooms after announcing the fellowship with the instructions of leaving at first light tomorrow.  You had found Cressida and Ren and informed them of your plans to leave with the ring bearer.

"We knew you would, my lady," Ren responded as she helped you out of your gown.

"Of course we did, a brave warrior like yourself would not hesitate to save the world," Cressida responded pulling out a shimmering night gown for you to change into.

You laughed at the girls, "please you are going to make me blush."

You spent a little bit of time saying goodbye to Cressida and Ren, they promised to have your new dress sent back to Mirkwood and you made sure they would travel to your wedding when you were finally able to have it.

"We will be back in the morning to make sure you have everything you need and see you off," Ren said a bit of sadness on her face.

"Do not be sad, dear Ren, I will come and see you both again, you are like my sisters now," you said reassuringly wrapping both girls in a hug.

"You will be safe and come tell us about everything, right?" Cressida asked sinking in to the embrace.

"Of course I will," you promised.  The sisters took their leave and left the room.  Not long after Legolas slipped in the door and came up behind you quietly.

"You should know better than to try and sneak up on me, Legolas," you said with a laugh catching his arms before he could touch you.

He placed a gentle kiss on your lips without another word.  "I love you, (Y/N). "

"I love you too Legolas," you responded placing another kiss on his lips.  He wrapped his arms around you as you both stared into the night sky and letting the breeze blow through your hair comfortingly.

"Noben will return home with the others and inform father of our quest," Legolas said as he rested his chin on top of your head.

"Mhm," you responded.

"(Y/N), what is wrong?" Legolas asked not moving from his position.

"Nothing," you responded lightly.

"I know you better than that (Y/N), you can tell me," Legolas said reassuringly.

"It's just," you began with a sigh, "we will have to postpone our wedding again."

Legolas let out a huff of a laugh, "I know, we will get married the second we get back home, I promise."

You smile at his sentiment and feel content in his arms.  You and Legolas enjoy the view in comfortable silence for a while before Legolas talks again.  "Do you want to tell me about Aragorn?" he asked not pushing but with curiosity.

You laughed, "I was wondering how long it would take for you to say something about that."

"It just looked like you two had something going on," he responded.

You turned around to look him in the eyes, "Legolas, Aragorn was my best friend, we spent many years travelling as Rangers, nothing romantic ever happened, he was like a brother to me."

Legolas seemed reassured and placed a kiss on your forehead, "then what happened?" he asked with curiosity.

"One day he left and did not want me to go with him, years later I heard whispers that he was dead, when he never came to find me again I believed them and eventually moved on," you answered truthfully.

"Have you spoken with him about it yet?" Legolas asked.

You had debated trying to find him after the council meeting, but had settled on spending your last night with Cressida and Ren.  "No, I figured we had a long time on the road to discuss it."

"He was looking for you earlier, I think he really wants to talk about what happened.  I know Aragorn too, I met him in the wilds before I met you.  I knew him as Strider then, a ranger from the north."  Legolas explained.

"You knew him?" you asked surprised.

"I went through a phase when I did not want to be at home much, it was soon after my mother died, Ada would send me on missions far away to try and let me blow off steam.  I spent some time with Aragorn on a few of these missions," he explained.

"And why did you stop going on these missions?" you asked curiously.

He smiled at you, "I met a she-elf that drove me crazy and gave me a reason to stay home."

You smiled back at him and rested your forehead on his.  "Come love, I want to sleep, we have a long journey tomorrow."  Legolas nodded and led you to the bed pulling up the covers as you settled your body against his.  He wrapped his arms around you and you both drifted off to sleep in the warmness of the embrace.

The peaceful moment was one you would hang on to for a long time for the journey to Mordor would not be easy.  Tomorrow you set off to the unknown where nothing was predicable and heartache would certainly be a daily struggle.
