Chapter Seven

Cruise- Florida Georgia Line (ft. Nelly)

“Three, two, one, go!” I screamed as I laughed and lit the Roman candle that was in Gwen’s hand.

Jeremy, Elodie, and I all rushed quickly to inside the safety of the garage before the firework went off.

“One!” all four of us screamed at the top of our lungs as the ball shot out of the roman candle and up into the air.

“Two!”

Gwen turned so that it was facing another direction.

“Three!”

I watched the green sparks light up the sky over my back yard.

“Four!”

I looked over to see Elodie with an eager grin as she awaited the next explosion.

“Five!”

I looked up at Jeremy and saw him fully enjoying the little firework show we had created on my driveway so far.

“Six!”

He looked back down at me and I smiled up at him.

 “Seven!”

He smiled back at me.

 “Eight!”

I swear to god my heart fucking stopped.

“Nine!”

We both returned our eyes to the sky.

“Ten!” we screamed ever louder than we had before as the last ball flew up into the air.

It exploded into a beautiful red color and we ran out from under the garage and we all threw are arms up in the air and screamed about how pretty it was along with some whoops and hollers before Gwen proceeded to place the burnt end of the roman candle into the bucket full of sand. I then reached my hand into the very large brown bag and pulled out a fountain for myself to set up. I walked out onto my driveway to light the firework as everyone waited under the garage.

I lit it and quickly ran into the spot between Jeremy and Elodie so that I could watch my favorite kind-of firework. I got back just to see the cone explode into a huge fountain-like, duhh, spray of twinkling little flames that reached almost as high as my house. I loved this kind of fountain because it had multiple chambers and soon enough the flashing sparks turned into purple and green embers that fluttered down to the ground after being shot high up.

As soon as that ended we decided to all run around the backyard and play with sparklers. We would line them up in the grass by sticking them in the dirt then light them all up and just sit there and watch them and we would all get one or two and just swing them around trying to make shapes and letters by moving them extremely fast.

I just felt so happy. We all laughed and giggled as we made jokes and became pyros for one night. Everything felt like it was just in slow motion while being played to happy summertime music like this was all some movie about teenagers just being teenagers. I don’t really care what it was all I knew was that I loved every second of it.

After lighting multiple large packs of sparklers we decided to set off yet another large firework, so we all walked back into the garage.

“What’s this?” Jeremy questioned as he pulled his head out of the brown paper bag along with a square firework in his hand.

“I’m not sure. We can try it though,” I smiled as I took it and brought it out into the middle of the driveway and lit the end.

I ran back into the garage in between Elodie and Jeremy like I had many times before. We all stood there for a minute or two waiting for something to happen.

“I guess it’s a dud,” I shrugged.

I began to walk towards the firework, but I didn’t make one full step before a blood curdling scream erupted from my lips and I flew myself into the arms of the person behind me as a chamber of the firework blew from the peaceful firework lying on the ground of my driveway and in between the space between Elodie and I and into my garage along with a loud noise that hardly matched the noise level of my scream.

I felt two very strong arms wrapped tightly around my waist as I slowly opened my eyes to see my hands balled into fists and tucked in between my chest and the owner of the arms that were currently wrapped around me’s chest. I slowly looked up to see Jeremy’s face looking down at me with an amused look on his face.

Hi.

‘Say it out loud, Sweetie.’

“Sorry. I’ll- I’ll let go now.” I barely got out.

“Well, I need to make sure that your safe, don’t I?” he said completely serious.

“I- I think I’m fine n- now,” I stuttered out once again.

‘Graceful,’ my conscience mocked.

“What if I don’t want to let go just because I like holding you?”

I gulped as my chin rested on his chest so I could look up to see his face better, “I guess that fine then,” I said completely nervous out of my mind.

He threw his head back in laughter at the way I spoke my words and I made a face to show I didn’t take kindly to it. He looked back down at my face to see my expression and his softened to show an expression of… loving?

He probably has gas, not love.

He then slowing leaned down as he began to close his eyes and I soon after brought myself up onto my toes and closed my eyes too. Soon enough I felt our lips touch and it was just…

‘Damn.’

Straight up.

The quick kiss lingered for a minute as we pulled apart and opened our eyes.

“You know I’m kinda breaking the law here,” he smiled/smirked down at me.

“I hope that it’s worth it,” I smirked as well as I gained a little confidence from that kiss.

He then leaned down and proceeded to peck my lips once again and the second one was just as ‘damn’ as the first one.

“Definitely,” he stated while staring into my eyes, “Would you like to be my girlfriend?” he asked after a few seconds while we continued to stare into each other’s eyes intently.

“If I have to…,” I said sarcastically as I made a motion with my hand as I rolled my wrist and my eyes.

‘YOU MOST DEFINEITLY HAVE TO!’

He smiled down at me again and, well, he looked ecstatic to say the least. That’s when I remembered something. I slowly turned my head around to see Elodie and Gwen clutching each other for dear life as if they’re freaking Jack and Rose from Titanic! I groaned and grabbed Jeremy’s shirt in my fists before throwing my head against his chest in utter embarrassment.

Sorry for the shorty chapter, but I didn’t have much I wanted to happen. I think they’re getting worse as they go along.

Picking out songs is so hard! For some chapters I have tons of ideas and for some I have none and I’m trying to pick songs that don’t give away what’s going to happen.

Hah. I think I like writing authors notes more than the actual story.
