Ch. 9

A bit of Sonic/Reader in this 😳
Hope y'all don't mind 😳
My friend sort of requested that I'd write a stormy night with cuddling, so I did!
Hope you enjoy!!
Even if it is shorter than the previous chapter. But hey, in my defense, more happened then.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How long had you been without Shadow?
If the calendar was anything to go by, it'd been two months.
He kept true to his word, and you hadn't seen him once during that time.
Not even a mere glimpse.
You sighed.
Your memory had yet to return, and it seemed to have stalled in any progress.
Having since accepted the fact it wouldn't ever come back, you lived your life, alongside your friends.
You'd become a permanent resident in Amy's house, even moving in some of your own stuff to seal the deal.
You still felt empty, though.
It never left.
You just learned to ignore it.
Apparently there was going to be a storm that night, and you'd all agreed to bunk down at Amy's house, to ensure no one was alone.
Tails was known to dislike storms, or at least loud noises, judging by the fact he kept jumping into Sonic's arms when thunder roared.
It was actually kind of cute.
You sat on your bed as thick drops of rain pelted the roof, hugging a pillow. You hoped Shadow was okay...
Lightning struck down, causing Tails to jump high, into the arms of Sonic, and you found yourself smiling at the sight.
At least, until Knuckles spoke the words 'Lightning-phobia pile!' and sent himself flying towards the two.
"Not again." They both uttered at the same time, though Knuckles thankfully missed them, instead landing beside them.
Nothing was broken.
... This time.
"Bun, could you help me make snacks?" Asked Amy, to which you nodded and made your way to the kitchen to help out.
Nothing overly fancy. Amy had learned her lesson from the previous times they had a storm sleepover.
Chips with dip, popcorn, chocolate, and some soda to wash it all down.
You watched movies, played a few board games, until it eventually became late, though the rain still bombarded the house, lightning lit up the skies, and thunder roared.
You laid in your bed, unable to sleep from the noise. Everyone else was seemingly off to dreamland, so when you felt your mattress move, you almost screamed.
Thankfully, you held it back, instead gasping.
"Woah, woah. It's just me." You heard Sonic say, much to your relief.
"Sorry for giving you a scare. Didn't mean to." He sat himself on your bed, keeping his voice hushed so as to not wake the others, watching as you sat yourself up, blinking at him.
Lightning lit up the room and you shivered.
While not as bad as Tails' fear, you still disliked the noise.
"Lightning not much your thing?" He asked, and you nodded.
"Yeah... though, what about you? Why aren't you sleeping?" He shrugged.
"Just can't for some reason." Silence lingered between you for a few seconds, before Sonic spoke, looking to you.
"Hey, uh, if you can't sleep, I wouldn't mind sleepin' next to you. You know, for uh... comfort." You blinked, trying to process his words.
Had he... really just said that? You thought he was with Amy.
Huh.
"Oh, I mean... I don't mind." Besides, it was just between friends... right?
You laid yourself down, Sonic soon joining you. At first, you just laid beside each other, nothing... 'saucy'.
Unless lying next to each other could be considered saucy.
But with how familiar this felt, you couldn't help but to... scoot a little closer.
Sonic didn't seem to mind, letting you, and if your mind wasn't playing tricks, he was doing the same as you.
You placed your hand on his chest, finding yourself at ease, and you knew exactly why.
Shadow was still on your mind.
It... wasn't that you were going to replace him, but... you craved his touch.
And Sonic was awfully warm...
He even wrapped an arm around you, bringing you closer.
It definitely helped, as you found yourself asleep in no time at all.
You hadn't even realised you had closed your eyes.
Friends, huh...
You awoke the next morning, and, remembering the night before, your eyes shot open.
Sonic wasn't there.
He wasn't even in the house, from what you could tell.
Breathing a sigh of relief, you looked around.
Knuckles was still asleep, but as the only one. He tended to sleep kind of heavily though, so you felt fine to slip out of bed, of course still with some level of care.
Quiet still, you got yourself dressed, before heading outside, stretching.
A lovely morning with the sun shining away, and a gentle breeze blowing.
"Oh hey Bun!" You heard a voice say, and upon turning to your right, you saw Sonic.
"Good morning." You replied with a smile, putting the night's events behind you.
"So hey, about last night..." Oh, what?
Just as you'd put it behind you.
"What about it?" You asked, your smile never fading.
"Er... you know what, never mind. Wanna go for breakfast at 'Meh Burger'?" Well, that was... odd.
First he mentions last night, then takes it back, and now he's asking you to breakfast at the place you detest?
Which he knows?
"Oh, ah... you know I'm not too fond of there..." You replied awkwardly, and Sonic felt a metaphorical safe drop on him, hitting him hard for his stupid question.
"Oh, right. Uh... then how about lunch at my place?" He suggested, much to your confusion.
Still, you accepted.
"Sure! That sounds great." You figured the others were coming along.
So imagine your surprise when you arrived as the only one.
Maybe the others were late?
You didn't bother asking. At least, not yet.
Sonic had seemingly gone all out with lunch.
Honestly, it didn't look bad. Miles better than what Meh Burger had.
Simple enough foods, like ham and cheese rolled in tortillas, ham sandwiches, chicken wings... and it tasted just fine too.
Though...
Was it really just you and him?
"What are the others doing?" You asked innocently enough, though Sonic quickly shrugged.
"Beats me." Ah... so he really was intending it to be just the two of you.
But why?
Surely he cared for his friends?
Ack, just eat the food, stop overthinking it.
"It's delicious." You said with a smile, and Sonic seemed pretty proud of himself, judging by his expression. Maybe he'd put extra effort in for you?
Surely not.
All your thoughts aside, you actually had quite a lovely lunch.
You ate, chatted, and he even taught you to play video games. You'd seen them play before, but never taken part.
You felt it too awkward.
But right now, life was good.
Before you'd even realised it, evening had come.
"I should probably get back." You said after being carried in yet another game.
You'd no idea how to play still, but your spirit was there.
"Didn't even realise it'd gotten that late." Said Sonic, turning to look at a clock on the wall.
"Mind if I eat at your place?" He continued, and you shrugged.
"I'm sure Amy won't mind."
Amy didn't seem to mind, even as Sonic asked to stay over to sleep.
She was initially suspicious, but eventually let him do as he pleased, as long as he didn't make any messes.
The three of you eventually headed off to bed, Sonic set to sleep on the couch, though unbeknownst to you, he had other plans.
You were on the brink of falling asleep when you heard him.
"Hey, Bun?" Sonic had seated himself on your bed, much to your surprise.
"Sonic? Are you okay?" You sleepily asked, rubbing your eyes.
"Me? Oh yeah I'm fine. I was just uh... worried about you." Worried about you?
"I'm... fine?" You replied, squinting a bit at the hedgehog.
Why wouldn't you be fine?
"Oh, right. Sorry for disturbing you." ... He didn't leave.
"Is there... something you want?" You questioned, tilting your head to the side.
"Who, me? Nah, I'm good." Then why are you still on my bed, you thought, eventually laying back down, figuring he would return to the couch.
He didn't.
Moving closer to you, he made himself comfortable beside you, and honestly?
You welcomed it.
Without a word, you held each other, until you drifted off to a deep sleep, feeling safer than you had in... well, one day.
But minus that, it'd been two months.
You could get used to this...
