Ch. 7

😳
One day, I'll write Shadow smut.
One day...
Today is not that day.
And probably not in this story. But!!
One day.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You arrived back at the cabin you'd found in the thick forest, still flung over Shadow's shoulder, when he placed you down on the bed.
"That fool." He grumbled, turning away from you, though he didn't leave.
You stared at his back, only gazing away once he turned back to you.
It was easy to tell he was angry.
Granted, not at you, but still... it bothered you.
You wanted to reach out. Tell him everything would be fine.
But you weren't sure yourself. Would you ever get your full memory back?
It scared you.
You kept your gaze down, as if ashamed of yourself, and upon feeling a gentle hand on your cheek, you flinched slightly as you hadn't expected it.
"Do you fear me?" He asked, voice filled with hostility. Though, somehow you could tell.
It was to mask his pain.
"No." You replied, gazing into Shadow's eyes. His touch was warm and kind, and you couldn't help but to lean into it, finding yourself at ease.
"Then you're just as much of a fool as the rest." He snarled, though didn't remove his hand from your cheek.
"Maybe." You quietly replied, keeping your eyes cast downwards.
You knew he wasn't exactly the definition of a hero, but he'd saved you.
And it was apparent to you he cared.
"But maybe I'm happier being a fool." You said, smiling up at him.
This seemed to catch him off guard, at least judging by the very slight change in expression, and he sighed.
"You sound like yourself." You tilted your head to the left, and couldn't help but to feel somewhat disappointed when he removed his hand from you, though you didn't stop him.
"I'm going to get your memory back, one way or another. Don't bother leaving here. I'll find you." He snarled, and just like that, he was gone, having teleported away.
That last line sent shivers down your spine.
But you'd better start getting comfortable here.
After all, this had been your home, right? Before the... 'incident'.
The cabin had a bookcase filled to the brim with various books, and you spent your time reading whatever was on there.
Mostly history and science books, though you didn't mind.
One book in particular caught your attention, being about space and the many other planets that existed.
You paused.
You... hadn't really noticed it earlier, but you felt at home here.
While with Sonic and his friends, you always felt you weren't supposed to be there.
But here?
Everything was right in the world.
You smiled to yourself, holding the book close to your chest.
Yeah... this is where you were meant to be.
The next day, you awoke early.
For once, everything felt... right.
Sure, you felt bad for Sonic and his friends, but you weren't friends, right?
They'd be fine.
You opened the fridge to find it stocked with various foods, much to your surprise, though none of it really made sense.
If that made sense.
It was as if someone who didn't eat was tasked to fill a fridge with food.
You had a guess as to who... still, you worked with what you had.
You weren't that hungry, so settled for baking bread.
It'd take time, and by then, you'd probably be hungry. At least, that was the plan.
So, finding everything you'd need (you even managed to find yeast), you began the process.
Put all the ingredients together, knead, let it rise, grease a bread-pan, plop the bread into it, let it rise again, before placing into a hot oven.
You nodded, satisfied with your work, and now began the process of waiting for the bread to finish baking.
"What are you doing." Asked a familiar voice, causing you to turn towards the source.
"Baking bread." You replied, a smile on your lips.
Shadow stood in the doorway with his arms crossed, before using his foot to close the door behind him.
He was silent as he seated himself on the couch, facing you.
You said nothing, sitting yourself beside him.
The bread still had some time to go before it was done, so you weren't worried about it burning.
And then, silence.
But it was by no means unpleasant. Rather, you were enjoying each other's company.
You occasionally glanced at him, feeling shy when you did, forcing you to look away.
Despite your attempts to hide it, he'd noticed.
But instead of saying anything, he placed his hand atop yours, and you found yourself a bit tense, though not in a negative way.
You were just a bit... embarrassed. Shy maybe?
Your face was a slight tint of pink, which Shadow seemed to enjoy, if the smirk on his face was anything to go by.
"Your body still remembers me." He said lowly, which honestly just made you blush even more.
You didn't like what he was implying. Was he even implying anything?
Or were you just being weird?
"Y-... yeah." You stuttered.
"I'm curious to see just how much it remembers." He continued, pushing you down on the couch with some force, just to be sure you went down.
You shivered underneath him, and your face became a deep shade of scarlet as he placed a kiss on your cheek, then your neck.
And then came the pain.
You gasped as Shadow bit down on your shoulder, though you didn't find yourself hating it.
Sure, it hurt, but... the fact it was Shadow who was doing it made you feel... things.
This pain was familiar to you as well.
You'd felt it before, you were sure of it.
"Shadow..." You panted, watching as he removed himself from your shoulder.
He seemed proud of what he'd done.
"You react the same too." You couldn't help but to wonder if this was just to tease you.
You tried sending him a glare, but he just lowly laughed, your efforts wasted.
The bread came out perfect, and you cut a slice for yourself, though you couldn't help but to feel a little... weak in the knees.
Shadow's eyes were still on you as you nibbled on the bread, and even with your back to him, you could tell.
"Would you... like some?" You asked, referring to the bread.
Why'd you have to clarify that to yourself?
"I'm the Ultimate Life Form. I don't need to eat." He replied, scoffing at the very idea.
"I didn't ask if you needed some. Rather, if you would like some." Shadow seemed surprised, letting out a sound reminiscent of a short laugh, watching you with half lidded eyes.
"Wh-what?" You stuttered, taking a step back.
"Nothing." He replied, though it left you unsatisfied. You regained your spine and made your way to him, a stubborn expression on your face.
"Tell me!" You demanded, though Shadow simply waved you off.
"I don't think so." Pouting, you did your best to glare at the hedgehog, though he was anything but intimidated.
... Huh?
You'd done this before... hadn't you?
Your pause caught his attention, and he stared at you, as if expecting you to suddenly have regained your memory.
Of course, you hadn't, but... this feeling. You knew it well.
Feeling so comfortable when the two of you were alone. You felt you could truly be yourself.
You took a hold of his hand and urged him to stand, which he did, and you pulled him in for a tight hug, something which he seemed to welcome.
You may not remember him fully, but you felt warm towards him regardless, and you wanted him to know that.
Your eyes were on a lamp.
That sounded odd, but it wasn't just any lamp!
It was a special salt lamp! Well, special was debatable, but... hey you liked it.
Though, as it was just about time for bed, you turned it off and nuzzled with the bedsheets, ready to sleep.
It was awfully lonely though, without Shadow...
You knew what he was doing. He was training somewhere, in preparation to defeat Sonic. Why did he want to defeat Sonic?
You had no idea.
Sighing, you tried pushing the loneliness aside.
You missed Shadow...
And as if summoned, you heard the door open. Turning yourself towards it, you saw that ever familiar form in the doorway, and you had to admit... you found your heart racing a bit.
He stepped closer, closing the door behind him as he did. The moon had illuminated his frame, however as he entered, everything became dark again.
Your eyes had yet to adjust to the darkness, thanks to you staring at that lamp.
But you could feel him.
His presence.
He sat himself on the bed, and as your eyes gradually adjusted, you could tell he was looking at you.
It made your cheeks redden.
"Do you... ever sleep?" You asked, placing your hand atop his.
"I don't have the time for something as pointless as sleeping." He replied.
With anyone else, you'd have argued they needed sleep. But he was the 'Ultimate Life Form', and you believed whatever he said.
"Can you sleep?" You questioned, genuinely curious.
How else did he recharge?
"I can. I just choose not to." You became silent.
Sleeping... sleeping next to Shadow sounded awfully nice... and the bed was big enough for two, so it wasn't like you were missing space.
"What's on your mind." He asked, and you went red.
You just hoped he couldn't see your face.
"Nothing!" You lied, though you felt that was a bad idea, and Shadow only confirmed that.
"I'll forgive you this once, seeing as you've lost your memory. But you should never lie to me." You nodded, muttering a quiet 'I'm sorry' as you did, a bit ashamed of having lied.
"So. Let me start over." Oh no.
"What's on your mind." He repeated the same question, and as much as you didn't want to tell him, you figured two strikes would be too much.
Last thing you wanted to do was anger him.
With your heart in your throat, you replied.
"I... well, I..." Come on, you could do this!
"I was just wondering what it'd be like to sleep next to you!" You said, forcing your words out, and you waited with bated breath and closed eyes for his response.
"Hah." He laughed, though you could tell, it wasn't to mock you.
He was amused.
"Then why don't you find out?" Wait, what?
Shadow laid himself next to you, much to your surprise, and instinctively, you wrapped an arm around his chest, bringing yourself closer to him, which only surprised you further.
He didn't seem to mind, even as you nuzzled against him, loving the feel of his chest fluff.
You felt... safe.
This is where you were supposed to be... you were home.
Now you just needed your memory back, and all would be perfect.
You just hoped it'd be easier done than said.
