Ch. 5

👀👀👀
That's all I have to say LOL

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It took you several days to plan out your kind-of-escape.
You wouldn't be gone for long, if you could help it.
Just enough to find out why Shadow had saved you, why you felt how you did, and most importantly, see if he could get your memory back.
You took the chance as soon as it was there.
The group went out to see a movie, but you'd politely declined upon being asked if you wanted to join.
Thankfully, they didn't pursue it further than that, and left shortly thereafter.
You had roughly two hours.
Packing a bag with a few supplies, you were soon off to follow where your mind wanted you to go.
Taking a deep breath, you stepped into the thick forest, unsure of what you'd find.
You walked and walked, somehow knowing which path to take as if it was second nature, and to your surprise, it didn't lead to nowhere.
Rather, you found a small cabin hidden deep within the forest.
It'd been hard to spot with all the bushes, trees and leaves around it, but you managed.
You knew this place.
Sort of.
Hesitant, but determined to know more, you entered, heart in your throat.
What'd you find? What if you didn't like it?
Whatever the case... you wanted to know.
Stepping in, it looked relatively recently lived in. A few weeks without any activity, but it wasn't bad.
The cabin was slightly smaller than Amy's home, but could still comfortably fit somebody, with all necessary amenities present.
You looked around the place, as if searching for something, though you weren't sure what, before sitting yourself on the bed.
... Huh?
There was a picture under the pillow.
Gingerly reaching out and handling it with care, you looked at it.
It was... you. You and Shadow.
So you did know him!
Well, used to.
He looked grumpy as ever, but you were smiling, flower crowns on both of your heads.
Despite his grumpy appearance, he seemed... happy. You could tell somehow.
A voice caused you to flinch.
"What are you doing here." Looking up, you saw him.
Shadow.
He had his arms crossed, displeased, but didn't immediately throw you out, so that had to be positive, right?
"I'm... not sure. Ever since I lost my memory, my mind's been screaming at me to come here. I was... hoping it'd help me regain it." Shadow was silent, even as he stepped closer, watching your every move.
Not that there were many of those, as you sat still, observing him.
"Well?" He asked, standing before you.
You were almost too ashamed to tell him, but...
"I still can't remember..." It was apparent you were upset.
And had you been anyone else, he wouldn't have cared.
But you weren't anyone else.
You were you, memory or not.
He sat himself down beside you, silent.
"I'm sorry..." You quietly said, a tear falling from your eye.
You genuinely felt awful at not being able to remember.
It was clear he and you had been close, so why couldn't you remember him?
If only you hadn't taken that hit to the head.
"What are you apologising for." He asked, his voice softer than normal.
"We're close... right? This picture..." It infuriated him that you couldn't remember.
In the heat of the moment, he'd blamed you.
But it wasn't your fault.
How could it be?
But the idea of having to start all over... it pained him.
He had finally begun to open up, and now this.
The universe hated him, and he hated it back.
Maybe he should just destroy it.
But... that would mean hurting you.
"... Yeah." Was all he said. He didn't really feel like talking.
"So I'm sorry... I really wish I hadn't forgotten, or at the very least, remembered you." You said, trailing off.
"But..." You continued, and he turned towards you, curious of your next words.
"When I saw a drawing of you, it was like... my mind hadn't totally forgotten. Something about you was... is familiar..." You said quietly, your eyes still on the picture in your hands.
Shadow was silent as he seemed to be brooding, his eyes closed.
Soon however, he looked at you with those deep red eyes, and you looked back, barely blinking.
"Do you remember this?" He asked, placing his gloved hand atop yours.
It certainly felt familiar.
You put the picture down on the pillow, before turning back to Shadow, a saddened smile on your lips.
"I remember your touch." Despite not saying anything, he seemed... relieved.
He didn't have to start from scratch. At least your body remembered.
As if on instinct, you lifted his hand to your cheek, which he only seemed happy to stroke.
"My Shadow." You said, much to the surprise of you both.
Where did that come from?
Were you remembering?
He was silent, appearing to be deep in thought again, before he suddenly stood up and began making his way outside.
"Shadow!" You called, but he'd seemingly just teleported away.
You sighed, turning back to the picture on the bed.
Better keep this safe... you thought, before reaching out for it and carefully placing it into your bag.
Better go back before the others get worried... you rubbed your arm, before making the trek back to Amy's house, feeling conflicted.
