Alana

We were waiting for my brother and Squints to show up with the baseball.

"What did you do to your shoes McClennan" Ham asked me.

I glanced down at my newly painted P.F flyers.

"They looked boring, so I water colored them." I said shrugging.

"What's water color?" They asked.

"A paint you have to use with water." I said.

"Oh." Kenny said.

"They look weird." Bertram said.

"You look weird!" I said.

Then finally Yeah Yeah and Squints showed up.

"Where have you guys been?" I asked.

"Squints was staring at Wendy Peffercorn." Yeah Yeah said mockingly.

"Shut up!" He said.

"Oh Wendy my darling lover girl." He said laughing.

"I've got a lot on my mind." Squints said.

We laughed. I made kissy noises. Then I heard the bushes rustle.

"Wait. Did you guys hear that?" I asked.

"Hear what?" Benny asked.

"Sis, your being delusional." Yeah Yeah said.

"Hmm, whatever." I said shrugging my shoulders.

"What are we doin' standing around let's play some ball!" Benny said.

I raced DeNuez to the pitchers mound. I won, of course. Timmy was first to bat.

"Don't blink." I said smirking. He blinked.

"Pitch it already!" He said.

"Check Hams' glove." I said.

He looked behind him and saw the ball in the glove.

"Bitchin'." Benny said.

"Strike one!" Ham yelled. I ended up striking him and everyone else out.

Then it was Benny's turn. I threw the ball, a little slower Then I normally would. But not by that much. He hit it.

Benny started running the bases. 1st base... second.... third. Home. I decided to sit out and let Kenny pitch. That way someone besides Benny could get a point.

I heard the bushes rustle again.

"Yo, guys come 'ere." I said.

We went over to the bushes. A girl popped up. Total girly-girl pink dress, white heels, blonde hair curled hair in ringlets.

I could see Benny was drooling.

"Benny, close ya mouth. Ya gonna catch flies." I said pushing his mouth closed. I had to admit, I was really jealous. I looked at the girl skeptically.

"Who are you?" I asked pointing the bat at her.

"M-m-m-my n-n-name i-i-is-" She said.

"Out with it." I said rolling my eyes.

"L-L-Laurel S-S-Stevens." She stuttered. I face palmed. This Girl has no backbone.

"Hi. I'm Benjamin Franklin Rodriguez. You can call me Benny. That's Alan Yeah Yeah McClennan.

The guys and I cracked up. Benny glared at us.

"Sorry, it's not funny. Not funny." I said still smiling.

"Anyway, let's go back to playin'." Squints said.

"You guys go ahead." He said.

We all stood there shocked.

"Um, what did you just say? Cause if you just said what I thought you said, I think you need to lie down. The heats getting to ya man." I said.

"I don't know what I was thinking. Come on guys lets go." He said running. I knew exactly what he was thinking. He wanted to stare at the 'pretty girl' longer.

I rolled my eyes and went to pitch again, since DeNuez said he wasn't feeling it.

I smirked since it was Benny's turn I decided to throw it as fast as I can. He makde the bad decision to blink, and he missed.

"Ya gonna pitch it?" He asked.

I rolled my eyes. "I already did." I said.

"Wow you're fast." Laurel said.

"I know." I said.

We played for a few hours longer, then we sat in the dugout. Laurel had to go home, because her curfew was 5:00. That's pathetic.

"So, wanna go get ice cream?" I asked.

"Yeah." The guys said in unison. We walked to the ice cream parlor. Once we had our ice cream we all sat down.

"What do you guys think of the new chick?" I asked.

A couple 'hots' and 'girly' rang out.

"What about you McClennan?" Ham asked.

"Meh. Not interested." I said shrugging.

"I bet she don't even know who The Great Bambino is." Kenny said.

I shrugged. I was getting tired of being around everyone.

"Guys, imma clock out early. See ya at The Sandlot. 9 a.m be there." I said.

The guys said bye. I walked out of the parlor and started walking home. I stopped at Vincent's drug store first. I bought a new baseball, cause I wanted one.

When I walked out I saw Benny. I stuffed the baseball in my bag.

"Hey Ben. What ya doin'?" I asked.

"Walking home." He said. I walked with him.

"Okay." I said.

"What was that at the Sandlot?" He asked.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"With Laurel." He said. I'm not gonna tell him why I will never be friends with anyone like Laurel. So I'll play dumb.

"I don't know what your talking about." I said innocently.

"Why were you so mean?" He asked.

"Look, sometimes I can just act like that. Okay? I don't have to all nice and caring to everyone I meet." I said.

"Why not?" He asked.

"Because. The world's not all sunshine and rainbow." I snapped.

"Bad things happen. Bad people happen." I said. I would never tell him about my dark past. I had secrets, secrets that I've never told anyone.

"What are you talking about?" He asked.

"You wouldn't get it." I said thinking about his life. He had two parents. Ones that don't fight.

"Yes I would." Benny said grabbing my hand.

"No you wouldn't." I said. I jerked my hand out of his and quickly walked away.
