Chapter 22: Blood Lusts

I lay back on the bed, staring at the pristine ceiling, cursing Kaname with all my might. It still didn't help. I was his pawn. He could cast me aside whenever he wanted to, or make me risk my life.

The door creaked open, as someone entered. I couldn't see who it was, with a limited view lying down. All I could see, as the person entered my line of sight, was pale, messy hair. Pale hair?

The person came closer, until I could see his face. Pale, lavender eyes glared at me, while strands of white fell around his head. What did he want now?

"Can't you knock?" I snarled at him, "Or are you just too stupid to?" Zero's left eyebrow lifted, as he stared at me incomprehensively.

"You should be thanking me," He informed me, "I had to carry you from town to school." I honestly didn't care if he had just left me to die, or if he hadn't.

"So? You didn't have to." I retorted. Zero seemed to sigh.

"Do you know why I carried you?" He challenged me, "Because you are the reason I'm not in the Night Class." I was confused about that.

"What do you mean?"

"You submit to Kaname's will much more easily than me," He continued, "You are a...Vampire." Finally I sat up on the bed, glaring at the white-haired teenager.

"What is that you have against vampires?" I snapped at him. His lavender eyes flashed, and he glared at me.

"Have you ever thought that I was once a vampire hunter like you?" The question told me, that he thought I had forgotten that I had a vampire hunter blood in me.

"You have the same attitude towards vampires that a hunter would have." I replied. His eyes darkened.

"Exactly. I am a hunter from the Kiryu family."

The Kiryu family. I've heard of them as one of the most powerful hunter families. In fact, mum had even mentioned something about them having twins, the year I was born. The cursed twins.

"Did you devour your brother?" I asked Zero suddenly.

The disgusted look on his face told me, apparently not.

"Well, you won't be at your full power," I informed him, "If you haven't killed him yet." Zero's eyes glared at me so hard, I though I could feel a dark aura emanating from him. This kid had issues.

With a mutter of disgust, Zero turned on his heel, marching out the door. He hadn't even said goodbye. Rude person.

"Oh, Zero!" Yuki's voice exclaimed from outside the door, "What are you doing here?" I didn't hear Zero's reply, he probably marched off without a word, again. Yuki's footsteps continued, closer to the door.

Oh no, I thought, She's coming to visit me. I considering lying back down, and pretending I was asleep, but she's probably already figured out that I'm awake, since Zero's seen me.

"Saki?" Yuki's head popped around the door, "Are you okay?" I looked up at the brown haired girl, and nodded mutely. I didn't want to talk to the person, who was the reason why Kaname was turning my life inside out.

"I just wanted to thank you for earlier," Yuki began, "For trying to save me."

Heh, 'trying' was a good word. I barely succeeded, and almost killed myself in the process. I'm pretty sure if Mum were here, she'd demand that I leave the school immediately.

I shrugged, still trying not to talk.

Yuki frowned.

"Why aren't you talking, Saki?" She walked into the room, peering at me, "Oh no! It's not something to do with the attack yesterday? Oh! It's all my fault!" She wailed, running up to me, and inspecting my face.

"Can you move your jaw? Your tongue?" You know, I'm pretty sure that Kaname didn't know that Yuki was...quite eccentric. I finally pushed away her hands.

"It's okay, Yuki," I told her, "I can talk, my throat is just, um, a little sore." That seemed to stop her rant. Yuki let out a puff of relief, before sitting down on the chair next to my bed.

"So you're feeling completely fine?" She asked me one more time. I nodded.

"Yes."

"That's good," Yuki breathed a sigh of relief, "I was worried for a second, but it looks as though you're perfectly fine." I nodded again, going back to my muteness. Yuki turned to me.

"Hey, are you, you know, hungry?" She held out her wrist, "I know that you lost a lot of blood, and I really want to make it up to you, so..." She trailed off uncertainly. I shook my head, pushing away her wrist. Heaven knows that if I drink her blood, Kaname will lop my head off. Such a shame, her blood does seem so sweet.
