David's POV
It's been a week since Chloe's dad passed and she's been distant. I can't blame her, her dad is now gone, and I don't have any idea on how to help her. Liza, Kristen and I stayed for 6 days more for his funeral. It's starts at 7 tonight, so Liza and I go to rent a tux for me to wear and we had to find one that was navy blue to suit the theme. Once we finish we head back to the hotel, and I pull out my phone.
Me: Hey, can we come over before the event?
Chloe: Sure, the door will be unlocked so just walk in. I'll be in my room.
Me: Alright, see you soon.
Liza and Kristen go to get food for us before we head out and I told them to get Chloe's favorite morning dessert, cheese danish, in hopes it will bring her some comfort.

We pull up to Chloe's house, and she's sitting outside on her porch. Her eyes are closed, so she doesn't see us waking up. Liza and Kristen go inside and I sit next to her. I tap her on her shoulder and place the danish on her lap. Her eyes open and she looks down and a small smile kind of forms on her lips. She nods and mouths "Thank you." and I nod in return. She looks at me, You know, he tried to be the best father always, and he wasn't perfect but he didn't deserve to die like this. He saved me. I wish I could have saved him. I stop her before she could finish. Saved you? She takes a deep breath before continuing on to elaborate, My mom says when I was a baby, my dad found me under a lap post in a woven basket. He took me home and they adopted me not to far after. He raised me best he could and in return I moved away. This shouldn't have happened. She keeps signing but she's getting faster and messier to a point where I'm unable to understand her. I take her hands so she stops signing and pull her into a hug. My shirt becomes damp as her tears fall into my shoulder. She pulls away and wipes her tears, Let's go inside and get ready. I nod and stand up, holding my hand out. She grabs it and stands and we walk inside the house. Everyone is ready for the funeral and we walk together, because it's at the park Chloe's dad always went to when he was little. The eulogy had begun and Chloe's mom was the first to speak. She speaks out loud and in sign language, "Issac, my husband, the father of my two kids, one who is here with us today, lived a life of happiness. Even in the negative events over the course of years, he's always kept a smile on his face. He was the best person he could be and never gave up on family." She started choking up a little, but she continued, "For the sake of my husband, I will be the best person I can be, I will never turn my back against family, I will always smile in the worst times. I will continue on the life he should have lived." She looks at Chloe, "I will be strong enough to move on, and wise enough to know what we both deserve." Chloe closes her eyes and a tear falls. I grab her hand and hold it. Chloe's mom walks down from the pedestal and takes her seat in the front row. As people continue to talk about the moments and memories shared with Chloe's father she begins to lighten up, and laugh at the moments and memories, rather than cry. The funeral ends with his ashes being let away into the wind. Chloe takes the urn and pours the ashes out and the wind carries it away. "Goodbye." She whispered. Her voice was soft and light, more beautiful than I imagined. I place my hand, gently on her shoulder and we walk back to the front of the church. As we approach the church a little girl runs up and hugs Chloe's legs. Chloe bends down and picks up the girl, they both look at me, This is my little sister Amaya. Chloe smiles and Amaya smiles at me. A man a little shorter than me walks up as well. Chloe's smile slowly faded. Hi Chloe. She looks at me and begins to hold Amaya out and I take her into my arms. She smiles at me and plays with my earrings. Hi Jake. Thank you for watching Amaya. He nods, anything for you. I'm sorry for you loss. She nods hesitantly, Thanks. They stand there awkwardly before he points at me, Who's this fellow? She looks at me quickly then looking back at him, This is David, I met him in California. He nods, You guys aren't together are you? Her facial expression becomes disgust, What's it to you? My love life and who's in it doesn't concern you. His lips form a sly smile, Hey now, no need to get defensive, I was just gonna ask if you were busy later. I put Amaya down and she hides behind my leg. At a time like this, the girl just lost someone dear to her and you're trying to take her out, seems kinda insensitive if you ask me. He eyes glare at me with a hint of anger, but so did mine. Well no one did ask you wise guy, he starts stepping closer but Chloe puts her arms in-between us. She removes her arms and stands in between us. Get out of here Jake. The answer is no, so why don't you go find one of your little hoes to take on a date. Jakes takes on last look at me before walking off. Who was that guy, what an asshole. She laughs and nods, That was my asshole ex, Jake. Amaya pulls on the leg of my pants and I pick her up again, You must be special. Chloe says, I look at her confused. She only lets me hold her. She smiles, and she looks generally happy. Gosh, this girl. I look at Amaya and she looks at me, she smiles and lays her head on my shoulder. This family is adorable.
