~ Unlikely Hero ~

(Cielo's pov)

"Stop running! I just want to talk.. I'm not going to hurt you!"

Such a convincing phrase, especially one from a 'guardian' demon. They are a whopping twenty feet tall at highest, so I don't think they are really that trustworthy. My thoughts were really fighting me on whether I should've stayed in the valley or not.. Even if I didn't like it there, at least I was safe from rampant demons.

Strangely the field I was currently running across seemed to go on for ages. My legs began to ache and my feet started to grow sore as they came in contact with the rocks and sticks. Oh, how I wished to fly again.

It's such a great day for me, isn't it? I am so happy I stumbled across this dumb old demon in the forest. I'm joking. That's a joke. I hate them, a lot.
Despite his very jurassic size difference than I, he was going oddly slow. It almost felt as though he was doing it on purpose.

"Just because I'm a demon doesn't mean we can't have a reasonable talk.. What are you even doing out of your territory? Aren't you an angel?" Of course. The *smooth* talk and the innocent questions. Who does he think I am? A child? Regardless, I didn't stop. In the near distance, I spotted a patch of trees I could sneak away in. Luckily it wasn't too far away, the only unlucky situation was the sudden incline to the hill. I hadn't realized it was there until it was too late. As I began to slip down it, my speed started to increase rapidly causing me to lose balance and my already uneven footing. It wasn't long before my foot tripped over a rock and I tumbled against the hard ground, blacking out almost instantly.

(Ryker's pov)

As a guardian demon, I don't really see much other than the occasional lost traveler from a distant village or the wildlife, so it isn't really normal to see a young angel fleeing from her own territory. Obviously I wasn't going to let it slide but I also didn't plan on doing anything either.. Yet there was something odd about her. Her wings looked as though they were stripped from her.

At first, she hadn't noticed me watching her from behind as she took the small break from her sprinting. She was leaning against a tree, obviously exhausted.

Patiently, I waited until she seemed at rest before initiating communication.. Yet unfortunately, it didn't turn out well. Before I could even speak she noticed my shadow, turned to look at me with the widest eyes I'd ever seen, and raced off to the open field. I mentally scolded myself before following closely behind, attempting a conversation or a truce I suppose.

The chase hadn't lasted that long though. It was cut short by her falling on a steep incline causing her to fall beyond my line of sight. As I neared the little drop-off, I saw her lying unconscious near the bottom of the hill. Quickly, I rushed to her side debating for a moment what I should do before gently scooping her into my hand and rushing back to my 'safe' place. My worry began to grow as the angel wasn't stirring.. Angels aren't supposed to be able to get injured, which brought me a bit of confusion. Regardless, I still brought her to my place, laying her gently on the rocky ledge in front of me. After a moment, I sat down crosslegged and started to think.
The place I considered my 'safe' place was just an old broken down medieval-styled cathedral. The walls were crumbled and the roof was gone, so I didn't really need to worry about hitting my head on anything. In the direct front of the room was a pile of old rubble I had flattened out awhile ago to use as a 'desk' or table.. That's where I had laid the angel down.
Thoughts were still racing through my mind, but I took in a deep breath to help clear them. Luckily, she was still breathing, so she was still alive. Angels can't technically die.. But this one was very odd. She really didn't look like an angel at all, but she was glowing a bit, her hair was the right color plus she could see me. If none of those were the case, then I would've just thought her to be a regular old person and wouldn't have attempted to ask her any questions.

With a shaky exhale, I tried to nudge her awake. Rather she would be terrified or downright stubborn like most, I couldn't help her out while she was asleep. There was no bleeding or any signs of broken bones.. So she seemed fine. Just asleep..

(Cielo's pov)

I was woken up by something shaking me slowly and as soon I came in contact with my senses I opened my eyes to be met by that same demon from before. Quickly, I scooted away from his hand, stood up, and attempted to run. It honestly would've taken some serious luck to get past him but I was hoping that I had just a little left. Unfortunately for me, I hadn't gotten the luck I was wishing for. One of his hands came crashing in front of me to halt my actions. The sudden block caused me to yelp in surprise, falling backward onto my bum before shooting the demon a glare. Yet, as my eyes met his, I felt a wave of fear. I was no longer quite the angel that I was before.. Terrible things could happen to me, such as death, and messing with a demon isn't really the way I wanted to go. Suddenly a shadow was cast over me and I looked up just in time to see his hands coming towards me. A surge of anxiety caused me to get away, but I couldn't. He just gently covered me, making it impossible for me to see him and impossible to get away.

"It's alright.. I just wanna talk, okay?" He spoke softly, trying to gain the trust I didn't have. Being the ignorant teen I was, I kept my mouth shut and stayed completely silent as I sat down on the cold rocky ground.

"What are you doing out here? You are very far away from the valley."

Detering from the 'silent' plan, I let out a heavy sigh and rolled my eyes to no one.

"It's none of your concern." As I spoke, I forced it not to quiver and tried my hardest to use a firm voice.

He didn't respond instantly, instead, he just peeked his hands open a bit just to give me a concerned and confused look. I simply turned away.

"Fine then.. How about your wings?"

Oddly, the question sent a shiver down my spine. They were completely gone by now, weren't they..

"My wings were taken." I stuttered, crossing my arms. The thoughts of the past couple of days came rushing back to my mind. I wanted to shut them off. I wanted to get away again. My thoughts clustered together building up a pile of frustration, fear, and sadness. It made me feel like I was going to explode. Pretty soon tears began to escape from my eyes but I quickly tried to wipe them away.

There was no response other than a semi-quiet sigh.

The light streamed in a bit more, but I refused to look at him, but before I could even think about anything else or react to it, I was suddenly scooped up from the rocky ground and held up against his chest. He gently ran his finger over my head, yet stayed silent. I couldn't help but stay silent too. There were no words, or questions and no more tears. Just the silence between us. "It's gonna be okay."
