the bus ride

"Gather in your groups!" The team leader instructed through the loud hailer, as she ushered the students to their respective classes.

Today was the long-awaited faculty camp for all students in the Business school so Pete didn't have to go to Vegas' house for the next 3 days unlike the previous weeks.

"Ahhh I'm so excited!" Pol squealed, as he stayed close to Pete and Arm.

Arm chimed in. "Me too! I heard there's gonna be a lot of activities planned and most importantly..."

"Vegas is coming too!" Pol finished off Arm's sentence, and the two giggled excitedly at the thought of being roommates with the school's hottest boy.

Pete really hoped he gets to be tent mates with Pol and Arm. He's not really a people-person anyway, so rooming in with someone new even for just 3 days sounded intimidating.

"Attention please." The team leader cleared her throat. "We're announcing your tent mates for the next 3 days." As soon as she finished, a list of names flashed onto the big screen. The entire cohort went into a frenzy, with some complaining about their new tentmate while others were feeling happy that they had roomed with someone they like.

Unfortunately for Pol and Arm, they had gotten each other coincidentally earning a disgruntled grunt from the two. Guess there's no hope in rooming with Vegas now,

But their disappointed sighs soon turned to excited chatters. Pete didn't know why but he soon did when he realized his name was next to...

Vegas.

"Oh my god!" Pol exclaimed, as he shot Pete a knowing smile. "Guess who's in luck!"

Pete had his mouth agape. He didn't know what to do. Just as he'd turned his head to look at Pol, his eyes caught a glimpse of Vegas and the latter seemed to have noticed him too. Vegas didn't seem perturbed by the fact that they were about to be tent mates. In fact, he seemed rather glad that he shot Pete a smile.

Whatever it was, Pete didn't like this arrangement at all.

But nobody said he hated it either.

They had to sit with their tent mates in the bus. Vegas and Pete got assigned to Bus A, Pol and Arm too though Pete secretly wished they weren't. Pete had gotten on the bus first and he had picked a seat closer to the back. Vegas followed behind before taking a seat next to his tent mate.

Pol and Arm were already throwing mischievous looks at each other, and all Pete can think of is the number of questions he is going to get from his best friends after the trip.

"What a coincidence." Vegas said as he stretched his arms. Pete nodded.

The bus ride was fairly silent apart from a few girls trying to catch a glimpse of Vegas here and there. Annoying to say the least. But it was quiet enough for Pete to doze off and he soon found himself slipping into dreamland.

Vegas on the other hand had been watching the boy. He was glad that he had Pete as his tent mate. He was probably the only person he felt comfortable with after Ken, the only person who treated him 'normally'.

Vegas felt a sudden weight on his shoulders, and he turned to see Pete dozing off.

"S-sorry." Pete muttered with his eyes closed, as he tried to keep his head away from leaning onto Vegas. But the bumpy car ride made it difficult, and he had hit his head on the window pane a few times.

Vegas laughed amusingly to himself at Pete's fruitful attempts. After seeing Pete's head knock against the window pane for the third time now, he reached for the latter's head and laid it gently onto his shoulders.

He was expecting Pete to resist, but the boy was too exhausted to have even noticed he was laying on Vegas' shoulders.

Vegas never felt his heart flutter for anyone.

But today it did, when a certain boy fell asleep on his shoulders.
