lunchtime talks✰

- you belong with me by taylor swift

anne was sat outside this lunch time.

her freshly prepared sandwiches and apple slices were spread out neatly in front of her.

she gazed out towards the small stream at her chosen spot, where she could relax instead of becoming bored of the repetitive topic about boys the girls seemed to love to talk about so much.

the hair that had detached from her pretty ginger plaits, blew away from her face in the icy wind.

she picked up an apple slice and shoved it in her mouth, biting a small chunk from it.

"you should try an apple from my fathers orchard, their known to be the best in avonlea."

anne knew exactly whose that deep voice belonged to.

gilbert blythe.

"perhaps i should." anne responded, still facing towards the water, yet again chewing on her apple slice.

gilbert sat himself down onto the spot next to anne.

a few moments of a peaceful silence over came them as they listened to the water splashing against the rocks, the shouts of the children from the other side of the building and the sing-song of the birds which were perched in the trees.

they both watched how elegantly the leaves would sway in the wind, the grass slowly becoming full of red, browny leaves and how the trees became more bare each and each day.

"so shirley, how come your not sat in the girls circle today?" gilbert asked, genuinely confused.

"i guess i'm just tired of hearing the same conversations being repeated again and again and again." anne started, "oh how lovely is billy looking today, all smart with his bow tie, and charlie, with his new haircut, doesn't he look so handsome."

anne huffed.

"and don't get me started on ruby, 'oh look at gilbert's eyes, his lips, his hair, his smile', like we get he's attractive ruby, move on." anne finished, her imitating coming to an end.

gilbert smirked at the last part, in fact, that was the only thing that he actually cared about from what anne said.

anne shirley cuthburt, thinks he's attractive?

"anyways, sorry for rambling, want an apple slice?" she asked gilbert with a slight smile.

"yeah sure."

she picked up an apple slice, gave it to him, and watched how when he bit into it, the juice slightly dropped onto his chin.

"here." she giggled, whilst reaching out her thumb to wipe off the excess juice from his face.

butterflies errupted into the curly haired boys stomach.

he never thought a girl would be able to give him butterflies, but this is anne shirley cuthburt of course..

she's a special girl.

"gilbert, what are you smiling about?" the young girl questioned, gazing closely at his face.

"oh, nothing."

"tell me."

"i was just smiling because i realised how different you are to the other girls, i guess i was just thinking really, it's nothing."

"oh so i'm different? in a bad way..?" anne said, her mood slightly dropping.

"no no, of course not in a bad way anne don't be silly."

"oh.. wait so how am i different again?"

"it's too hard to explain, i guess you just are. i mean your nicer, more caring, more pretty, thoughtful and you don't like what other girls like and i appreciate that because it shows you are unique."

"wow, i didn't think of it like that, thank you." anne responded, her cheeks turning rosy at the fact he called her prettier than the other girls.

she knew he wasn't being serious, but it still meant a little something to her.

"gilbert, i'm not prettier than the other girls." anne sadly laughed, tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear.

gilbert's widened his eyes as he realised he called her pretty unintentionally. it's not that it wasn't true, he was just rambling and it slipped out.

"well in my opinion, you are, i personally think you have a beautiful soul, through and through."

anne was overwhelmed, nobody's ever used such nice words to her and explained them so well.

she latched onto him, wrapping her arms around his neck and capturing him into a side hug.

he turned himself around still holding anne, and he cuddled his head into her neck.

who would've thought, anne shirley cuthburt and gilbert blythe hugging?

it's a pretty rare sight.
