Crashing Waves

Moon's POV:

Cupcake came running out of the Sunspire with Burn on her back. She looked exhausted and had several cuts and bruises on her body, as did Burn. Speaking of which, the Flareon was unconscious, but visibly breathing. Both Sandy and Branch ran up to help lighten her load. I walked over to my sister and gave her a hug.

"Are you okay?" I asked her. I looked into her eyes and saw she was worried.

"Moon. . . .Wave is still up there. He's fighting Solstice by himself. I know he's a water type but I'm worried about him." Cupcake looked me dead in the eyes and I knew she wasn't joking.

I looked down at my paws and felt tears well up in my eyes. "Wave. . . ."

"He's going to be okay Moonbeam." Crystal wrapped her many tails around me like a blanket and smiled at me.

My gaze shifted to that of the Sunspire and I saw a flamethrower go off followed by a hydro pump.

Oh Arceus, please keep him safe. Please.

Branch began tending to Burn with Cupcake looking over his shoulder the whole time. Sandy stood next to Flower and was making sure the Bayleef felt safe. I looked around at the pokemon of Sunspire who looked at each other in confusion and worry. I joined them in their feelings. Sensei was overseeing his various pupils as they helped to tend to the mon of the town. I noticed he looked up at the top of the Sunspire himself and I saw his face contort with worry for a brief second. I followed his gaze to where Wave was clinging to the broken Sunspire as Solstice fired another flamethrower at him. Wave countered with hydro pump, creating a large cloud of steam in which both mon disappeared. A moment or so later, a loud explosion sounded on the roof and I gasped as my heart jumped.

Oh Wave please be okay. I thought.

Seconds later both Solstice and Wave came flying off the tower, propelled by Wave's aqua jet. Solstice landed on the ground with a loud crack, and Wave, Wave was barely holding onto the tower before his grip loosened and he fell.

"WAVE!! NO!!" I cried out, running towards him as he plummeted to his death.

Right before he hit the ground, a black blur ran under the falling Vaporeon and caught him. Sensei then turned to face me with Wave in his arms.

He looked awful.

He had several scratches and cuts along his body, (most of them bleeding) several burns, and a large chunk of his left fin was missing, covering the left side of his face in blood. I gasped and covered my mouth at the sight of my mate so hurt.

"Wave." I whispered. "Will he be okay?" I asked the shiny Greninja.

"I will have my best medic watch over him. He should be fine as his injuries are not as severe as they appear. I will send word to you when he has awoke."

With that the water/dark type carried Wave away followed by a pawful of Frogadier, Sandy who carried Burn, and Flower who looked extremely nervous. I watched them until they turned a corner and disappeared. Hearing the sound of orders being given followed by grunting, I turned to see a group of water type pokemon lift up the dead body of Solstice as a Frogadier gave them orders. They carried the body towards. . . .somewhere and disappeared from sight. I turned my attention to the remaining group where Branch and Crystal were comforting Cupcake. Crystal looked at me and walked over to where she sat down.

"How are you doing, Moonbeam?" She asked.

"I'll be okay. I'm glad this is all over though. Imagine if we hadn't stopped Solstice. I bet everything would have been a lot worse."

Crystal nodded. She looked up at the sky, which had returned to it's normal rotation, and whispered something to herself.

"What was that?" I asked.

"Oh, nothing." She glanced over at Branch before looking back at me. "I know you'll be okay." She looked at me more earnestly. "Also. . . .I'm glad you found Wave. I was worried about you moving here, but now I'm not anymore because you have him."

I looked at Crystal and forced a smile onto my face. "Yeah. He's. . . .the best." I couldn't hide the pain in my voice, however.

Crystal gave me a sympathetic look as I stood up and walked away. The tears were fighting hard in my eyes, but I somehow managed to keep them in. I walked over to Spire Fountain and sat down, thinking to myself.

This is the place where I first bumped into Wave after. . . .after dad died. . . .

I looked up at the cloudy night sky and let a few tears fall.

He's going to be okay. Wave will make it. He's tough. I'm sure he'll be awake by tomorrow. I'm sure. . . .

I looked around Market Square and made note that there was almost no Pokémon out whatsoever.

They all must be in their homes, recovering.

Hearing pawsteps I turned to see Branch approaching me. He had a kind smile on his face and I could tell he felt bad.

"Hey sis. You doing okay?"

"I'll be fine." I said, repeating the same answer I had told Crystal moments earlier.

My brother nodded. I could tell from his face that he was extremely worried about me, but was trying not to let it show. He rubbed the back of his neck and looked at me. "Sometimes I wonder if none of this would have happened have we not moved here." He said.

"Branch, don't beat yourself up about this. None of this was your fault. I don't blame you for any of this." I gave the larger grass type a hug as I spoke, letting him know that I meant what I was saying. "I'm glad we moved here. My life has been better because of it."

Branch returned the hug and we stayed like that for awhile before Branch separated and cleared his throat. "We should head home. You need rest and so does everymon else."

I nodded and followed my brother back through town and towards the bridge leading into the forest. The walk back was quiet, everymon lost in thought. Cupcake walked next to me, staring at the ground the whole way back. I knew she was really worried about Burn because she was never this quiet. I looked at the Sylveon with sympathy and bumped against her. She looked at me with a curious expression and I gave her a shy smile.

"I'm sure he'll be okay. Him and Wave both will." I tried not to let my own fear show as I spoke.

Cupcake nodded and looked back down at the ground. I sighed and looked around at the forest, trying to let my mind wander and focus on something else. The trees looked calm in the cloudy night, their branches swaying and their leaves shaking in the gentle wind that glided through the forest. I could tell we were getting closer to the den because I began to recognize the trees and foliage around us. Walking up to the door Branch opened it and we all followed inside after him. All of us except Cupcake.

I turned and faced her, a look of concern spreading across my face. "Cupcake?"

She responded without looking at me. "I'll be fine. I. . . .just want to sit out here for a moment."

I know she couldn't see me, but I nodded before walking inside and closing the door. Branch and Crystal both looked at me questioningly but I just shrugged.

"She wants to be alone." I said.

I didn't stay long enough to hear or see their answer as I promptly left for my room. Closing the door, I pawed over to my bed and lay down. Looking up at the ceiling, I willed myself to go to sleep, but sleep was long coming.

Oh Wave. Please be okay.

*************************************************

The next morning I decided to go for a walk through the woods. Branch tried to stop me, but Crystal convinced him to let me go saying "She needs to clear her mind. Just like Cupcake needed to last night."

The trees seemed to sparkle in the morning light. I could hear several Taillow and Starly singing in the trees. I walked slowly, making sure to take in all the beauty around me. I watched several bug type Pokémon scurry and fly around the trees and bushes, doing whatever it was they did. As I walked further from the den, I noticed that the forest began to grow quieter. The Taillow and Starly had stopped singing and the bug types had all seemingly disappeared. I looked around and suddenly felt like I wasn't alone.

"Hello-"

Suddenly a bag was thrown over my head, obstructing my vision. I tried to escape but ropes were soon tied around my limbs. I struggled against them, but my assailant just tied the ropes tighter. They dug into my skin and I thought it would be better if I stopped moving.

"Help!" I screamed which earned me a swift slap against my skull.

"Shut up." Snarled my attacker. I felt like I recognized their voice but. . . .

"Comrade Moon! Is that you!?"

"Sandy! I'm over here! I-ow!" I was once again hit on the head and I felt a Swanna egg start to form on my head.

"I said shut up!"

I felt myself get lifted off the ground and carried away. I could hear who I assumed to be Sandy in pursuit, but his clawsteps grew distant as my kidnapper put a few miles between us and Sandy.

Oh Wave, please be okay. And for the love of Arceus somemon come save me.

Dun dun dun! What's gonna happen next!? Nobody knows!!!

Wave: *happily* Except you!

Yessir! Except me! The god of your world!

Wave: Yea. . . .

Wave: . . .

Anyways guys, I hope you enjoyed this chapter and just to let you know, there are (should be) only three more chapters left of this book! And then I'm done! Wooooo!

Wave: *muttering* I am subject to his every whim and I can do nothing against it. . . .

Hehehe. Ignore the Vaporeon having an existential crisis in the back. He's not important. At least not till the next chapter, he's not.

But without further adieu, I bid you all farewell!
