Chapter 10 :

Mpuah

The next day was Sunday and, unluckily, I wasn't able to see Billy tonight because of his 'elegant dinner with his father's boss' family'. And I didn't really want to have the whole day on my own, so I went over at Clary's. We called Taxi and went at MacDonald's for breakfast. I was eating a Big Mac, small fries and a chocolate milkshake, again.

All of a sudden Clary's soft voice distracted me, "Have you visited Nick?"

I stared at her for a short moment before putting my Big Mac down and answering, "Yea, yesterday."

"How's he? I'm so worried..."

"He's fine, don't worry," I told her, "he'll be out in a week or so."

"Thank god. I've never seen anyone getting in such a fight."

"Lucky you. My school was full of fights like that."

"Really?"

"Absolutely. By the way, we could visit him today."

Her face lightened up, "Yea, we could."

"But first we could eat normally. Then we could even head to the mall."

She nodded and I kept on with my fatty food.

Anyways, what was with her worrying about Nick? He was alright. I was worried about him, too, but I saw him getting stabbed - she hasn't. What was she so worried about? Does she like him?

That last question in my mind caught me off guard. It doesn't look like it, but what if she does? And what if Nick likes him back? An uneasy feeling started up in my stomach, making me feel somewhat strange.

I wasn't jealous. I wasn't.

As soon as we were finished with our food we exited MacDonald's, catching a Taxi and going to the hospital.

Doors opened on their own as we approached them, leading our way in. I led Clary today, since she was visiting Nick for the first time. We quickly found the room 502 and I knocked softly, waiting for Nick's voice to call out. But it never did. I knocked again, this time louder and this time the anwer came, "Who's there?" Nick's tired voice asked, sounding as if just woken up.

"It's me," I called out, hoping he'd let me in.

"Oh, come in," he said, his voice no longer sounding sleepy or tired.

I carefully opened the door, as if someone was asleep inside. I popped my head in before fully entering, Clary by my side.

"Hey, Remember Clary?" I asked him, sitting down on his bed.

He nodded, stealing a glance from her.

"How are you?" I asked, smiling weakly.

"Good," he answered, "You?"

"I'm fine. Have you been sleeping or something?"

"Yea, but I woke up 10 minutes ago."

"Oh. Are your parents over or something? I wouldn't like for them to find us together, it's still forbidden."

He quickly shook his head, "Nah, they're not over."

I furrowed my eyebrows, "Why aren't they? Sorry for sounding rude, but still."

"Dad had some extra work and mom stayed home with my little brother."

"Really?" I asked, not hiding my fury, "I mean, their child's in hospital after being stabbed and they are acting like nothing? Sorry for rudeness, again, but if they were my parents, I'd refuse to believe I'm not adopted."

He chuckled, "Nah, it's not like that. I understand them."

"That's your business, not mine," I said, "But that's not fair."

Suddenly, I heard someone's stomach grumbling as I laughed. "Nick? Are you starving?" I asked with a wide smile.

"I can't help it," he answered, "The food they're giving here is not edible."

"Lucky for you I remembered your text from yesterday," I said with a smile, opening my handbag and taking out a small package.

"What's this?" he asked suspiciously, slowly taking it and opening. He pulled out a Big Mac and medium-sized fries that I bought a minute before exiting MacDonald's, remembering how he texted me yesterday that hospital food sucked.

A smile spread across his face as he looked relieved, his smile indeed reaching his eyes, "You are my savour, thank you."

I smiled in answer, looking over at Clary's who I just remembered. She was still standing near the door.

"Why are you not sitting down?" I asked her, motioning at a chair that stood beside Nick's bed and another one that stood near the window.

"I'm fine. I'll get coffee from cafeteria," she said, going out and closing the door behind her.

I turned back to Nick, seeing his mouthful of Big Mac. "Aren't you allowed to stand up at all?" I asked him.

He swallowed before answering, "Not today, not tomorow, but after tomorrow I'll be able to go walk at the park of the hospital only with assistance. As for me I already feel good enough to go out of this hole for once and for good; but I guess I'm not the one deciding."

"Well, you look pale enough to stay in bed whole day."

"I don't feel pale."

I laughed, going near the window and looking out. The hospital park was seen from here. It was a normal field with a few patients walking with assistance of nurses or relatives.

"Can you help me?" Nick asked, putting the trash from MacDonald's leftovers aside. He sat up straighter, "I want to stand up."

"You shouldn't," I said, running to his side.

"I'll take just a couple of steps. I just want to look out of the window, my legs haven't moved for three days!"

"Fine," I agreed, knowing the feeling of it.

I stood by his side as he wrapped an arm around my shoulders to help him walk. We slowly moved a few steps further, stopping in front of a window.

"Does it hurt?" I asked him, looking on my left to see his face.

He shook his head, "It's still a bit difficult to move, but it doesn't hurt."

"Okay," I whispered before starting to talk normally, "You saw what's out if the window, let's go back now."

"A couple of more minutes, please?" he asked.

I sighed, wrapping an arm around his waist to hold him better.

From the window we could see the sky. It was totally blue and green trees that seemed to be touching the sky looked bright in all the colors of summer. It was already October, to be true, but the weather was very kind this year.

"What are you thinking about?" Nick suddenly asked, looking my way.

I ignored his gaze, still looking out of the window, "Nothing, nothing at all."

He sighed heavily his eyes not leaving mine. I could see from the corner of my eyes his stare, not handling it and looking his way.

His eyes quickly darted to my lips and back, as mine did the same. He licked his lips before leaning over so slow, I had to convince myself he was actually moving. I held in my breath, being totally unable to move, to think, to speak, or whatever... His parted lips were less that inch from mine and there they froze. I didn't know what he was waiting for, but I couldn't handle his hot breath on my lips anymore, as I moved on my own, smacking our lips together.

It was not one of those passionate kisses you've used to see in famous TV shows, or as slow ones as in the famous novels... It was perfect. Perfect in all shades. Perfect in all ways.

My right hand flew up to his neck, as we pulled each other in. After a long kiss, I pulled out, feeling slightly breathless. His kiss left a burning sensation on my lips as I touched them, earning a smirk from Nick.

I knew it was wrong. I knew it was forbidden and banned, but for me there was not a thing more right in that moment. It felt so good, so unfamiliar yet so right. Like we belonged in that moment, like that moment would last forever if there wasn't the need for air.

"You should lay back down," I said, snapping the both of us out of our thoughts.

He nods, looking tired as I helped him to get back to the bed, laying down and then sitting up again to face me.

"Thank you," he suddenly said, surprising me greatly.

"For what?"

"For everything you're doing for me."

"That's nothing."

"That is not nothing."

The Door behind me opened with a creak, making me jump as Clary entered. "Hey guys. I tried drinking a coffee and that was absolutely horrible." she said, closing the door and sitting down. "We should get going soon if we still want to go to the mall."

I nodded.

We stayed for a few more minutes and then left, promising Nick I'd see him again soon.

The usually people-loaded mall now had only a man or two in each store. We were about to enter NewYorker when I stopped her. Clary turned around with a questioning stare.

Without a second thought until I started overthinking about it I mumbled out, "Nick and I kissed."

Her eyes went the widest possible, "What?" she shrieked, making my ears bleed.

And I told her everything. Everything at all. I showed her my bruise that was gone. And I touched my lips while saying he kissed them. Clary was looking at me like she's just seen a ghost.

"You can not date him!" she almost screamed.

"I don't think I even will. But for you to know, I can."

"How?"

"If it will be needed I'll think about it. But I doubt I will, so..."

"Oh my God, Zoe!"

"Calm down!" I hissed, "Do you want us to get dropped out?"

"Do you like him?"

I knew the answer without even a second thought. "I do."

"Do you love him?"

About this I had to think. "I doubt it."

"Yes or no?"

"No, I guess."

"Then we'll fight it. Now about your bruise. How did that even happen?! I saw the bruise I thought it would be staying for a while!"

"Me too. It's so strange!"

"Oh my God I am so exhausted I can't even think about that anymore!"

And with that we entered NewYorker. Then TJ Maxx, Forever 21, Victoria's secret and a few more shops.

We went back at the Lestrade Academy boarding house at 7, coming from KFC after a good dinner. We took all the stuff we bought in our rooms and went back down, sitting in the backyard and talking for a couple of more hours about everything that's been happening to us recently.

At 10pm we heard Martha's call, "Girls? What are you doing there so late?" She was standing in the doorframe that led to the living room straight from the backyard.

"Just talking," I called back.

"Come in, it's getting late!"

"We'll come in, Martha!" I called out, irritated, "Just let us finish the talk!"

I could see her rolling her eyes as she went back inside leaving us alone.

"Are you planning on visiting Nick anymore?" Clary asked quietly, as soon as Martha left.

I furrowed my eyebrows, "Of course! Tomorrow I'll go and I hope you'll come with me."

"I had enough stress for the entire month by today!" she said, rolling her eyes.

"Why?"

"I was nervous someome would come in and spot us all the time!"

I laughed at her before offering to go to bed for tonight, and going upstairs yawning all the time.
