twenty two

Rindou sure is aware of his stage fright but at this moment, anger sure is the only thing in his mind so he has no feeling of fear anymore in him, he pushed it all away and seems like someone else is possessing him.

It's usually his brother that will do the talking but Rindou wanted to order everyone himself.

Because to him, this problem involves you so it automatically becomes his too.

This is a rare occasion to happen. Rindou will only talk when Ran is sick and he has no choice but to lead everyone on that day, or when he wants to add a few things, but sometimes he has nothing else to say since Ran had told everything.

But now.

It's just him standing at the centre of the meeting gathering while all his underlings were sitting on the bleachers, waiting for his order.

Ran was to shed tears because he was so proud, he can't believe Rindou is standing on the stage alone now. He usually wanted Ran to accompany him because he was mostly scared.

But God is this a sign that Rindou is starting to be independent and believing in himself?

Ran can't believe a mere girl can change his brother this much.

She better fall in love with Rindou, for goodness sake.

"Yesterday, Roppongi Supermarket, 7 pm." Rindou's stern voice reverberated through the spaces of the circus tent.

These are rare moments where the goofy Rindou will look so confident and charismatic that if his fangirls see this, they will definitely melt into a pool.

The fact that all of his underlings who are usually noisy were so quiet that it felt like no one is present there. If they like to confess, they truly get goosebumps with Rindou and the way he conveyed his words, they were already ready to obey any order that he was going to give.

If being submissive is a job, his underlings sure will be richer than the brothers.

Regardless, if their life depended on it, they were willing to die for him, as long as they can get his approval and attention.

"My friend's mother got mugged by some delinquents."

Now, they may be quiet for a moment but then they start to create a hubbub and there were gasps coming out from their mouths.

And that annoys the shit out of Rindou.

"Did I ask you to talk?"

Just in a blink of an eye, the noise died down. Most of them were looking down at their shoes, not wanting to look at Rindou's angry expression. They will admit that they were more comfortable and less scared with Ran because Rindou is terrifying and he always looks so murderous whenever he is with them.

Probably that's why they usually label him as unapproachable.

Surprising, right? It's like a whole different person that I am describing right now.

He was anything but terrifying to you. Probably because in your head he's just a dingus that needs to be put in his place since he's so full of himself.

But here he is, making a hundred men (gangsters to be precise) tremble in their knees.

Ran that was witnessing all of it can only give Rindou a proud smile, his thoughts are that Rindou one day is going grow up well and probably become someone better than him.

"I want all of you to catch those muggers, drag their asses here and let me do the fucking beating. Make sure the handbag is also with us."

The blonde-blue-haired boy glanced at the watch on his wrist and gazed back at his underlings, estimating how long should they complete the task, "I give you three hours. If you exceed more than that, I'll beat you shits to a pulp. Understood?"

Like soldiers, every one of his underlings stood up from their seats and bowed. Simultaneously, they shouted, "Yes, sir!"

The sound of them shouting was so loud, that the tent could have fallen down at any moment.

Rindou stay with his disinterested expression, not giving any of them a smile for just bowing and listening to him.

"Now, scram."

Three hours later...

"We're sorry! Please, have mer-

The sound of bone getting cracked in a ruthless way was echoing the silent crowd.

The pleading guy can only scream in agony. He was in excruciating pain indeed that no one else will ever understand what it feels like. It was a scream that no one will ever get to comprehend and even if the people surrounding him are just watching his suffering state, they can't help but look away because the scream he was letting out was enough to make them squirm.

I mean, who can ever hold in their scream?

It's impossible to do that.

Especially when the person is laying on the floor with his head endlessly bleeding, so much blood oozing out that it painted the floor that was supposed to be grey, only because his face was stepped on relentlessly like it was filth by Rindou. One of his arms was twisted in the most forceful and unmerciful way by Rindou.

With just a mere twist that doesn't require much energy, had made a cracking sound came out from the person's arm. His arm is definitely broken by now and it felt like his arms cannot function properly anymore after this.

He has to get hospitalized if he wants to save his arm because he will not have any idea how big the crack in his humerus is.

That's how strong Rindou is.

This is why anyone should not press the wrong buttons on Haitani Rindou or even try to do horrible shit in his territory. This was the consequence.

Trauma and broken bones.

That's what he'll give.

Rindou that was holding on to the person's arm that he just twisted crouched down into the person's ear. That person better hears him clearly, since he had already given him a favour to talk right into his ear. It is better engraved in that puny brain of his.

"Does that hurt, hmm?" He paused his words for a moment."Now you know what the lady you mugged last night feels, right?"

Rindou said so calmly, it was opposite to what he was feeling in his chest.

If he were to follow his emotions, he might have pushed those muggers into the middle of a busy road and let them get hit by vehicles. That's way more insatiable to his anger.

But he was trying his best to be rational right now. Keeping himself that way because if he does that, he will be no different to them.

Rindou's principle is simple.

An eye for an eye. A leg for a leg.

They broke a lady's arm? Oh, they're going to get broken arms too. As simple as that.

Rindou likes to make karma come true and the way those muggers were pleading for mercy? It disgusts Rindou. Who asked them to hurt and rob people? This was definitely the consequence of their own actions.

Yet, they're whining that they get their karma?

How humiliating?

The person under Rindou stays silent. Probably regret was starting to swarm into him and he must have wished to go back in time and undo his mistakes.

But it's too late to regret.

His arm was already broken and he was not surprised if it doesn't work as it used to anymore. The person can only pant and breathe in deeply, trying not to cry from the pain he's feeling.

The other mugger that was beaten up by Ran was also lying down on the floor, his face was also covered in blood due to Ran's baton hits. Ran was taking a break for a while since he gets exhausted easily.

He only gave his victim a lazy smile while he twirled his left braid around his baton, making his braid contaminated with the person's blood. It's always a habit he likes to do when he's taking his short breaks.

Like I always say, Rindou and Ran are opposite to each other. Rindou will not wait and gave his all when he's about to injure someone. He's straight-up ruthless and breaks every bone of his opponent without even letting his opponent to even breathe properly first. It will just be endless screaming and bone-cracking when you're Rindou's opponent.

Ran on the other hand is not a person that likes to rush things, he is the type to beat up someone with patience and elegance. It excites him more if his beating up is slow but yet so painful that none of his opponents will ever forget the pain forever.

Still, those two are incredibly strong and they always fight in duos. And you can already predict who is going to win.

No hesitation, it's going to be them.

And if you were to pick background music when the Haitani Brothers are brawling, Rindou's fighting skills are more suitable with rock and loud music, since every move of his is fast and unpredictable that it just scrambles his opponent's brain while Ran's will be classical music, it sounds so serene but yet it makes it even more terrifying because they will never guess when Ran's going to give his next baton beating.

"Please spare us! We already give back the handbag. What else do you two want?" it was Ran's victim's turn to speak.

Rindou stood back still from his crouching position and moved his eyes to the other mugger, his eyes were showing nothing but fury.

That type of question should not even be asked.

"What do we want?" Rindou scoffed. "We want you fuckers to remember this moment, my fucking words and here is a harsh reminder: Roppongi's delinquents are under the Haitani Brothers. We don't rob, harass people, do drugs and especially we don't ever hurt women."

Rindou stomped on his victim's face rougher, making his cheeks squash to the floor and a muffled scream was heard.

"How dare you pests do those horrible shit under our territory? Do you think we wouldn't know or find you shits? Are you underestimating us? You think I wouldn't know who you are?"

Rindou clicked his tongue as he was about to continue his words, he sure was disgusted to continue his next sentence.

"Kyougoku ex-members."

Right.

Kyougoku.

The corrupted gang that the Haitani Brothers had defeated 5 years ago.

That gang was one of the strongest gangs in Japan and I'm telling you, the members can reach a thousand of them. It's like most delinquents that are well-known and known to be strong will for sure end up being a Kyougoku founding member.

They have done so many horrible things that are beyond Rindou's imagination.

Kyougoku's crimes

- They sell and use illegal weapons, meaning they use guns, snipers and all those dangerous weaponry on a daily basis like it was nothing.

- They annihilate lots of gangs, even weak and small ones just so they could get to the top. They will not hesitate to commit murder and even if the police start to get involved, there was no use. The number of their members was uncountable, if certain members are successfully caught, there will be more members that will commit other crimes. They were out of control indeed.

- They involve themselves in robbery (mugging is normal to them)

- They do prostitution (mostly non-consented as they kidnap many women and force them to be a prostitute)

- They do drug trafficking (any drug, you name it, they have it all)

- They've done multiple extortions and blackmailed people for money.

- They do lots of gambling.

- And the worst of all, they have such a sickening tradition. They gang rape any woman they can find as a celebration of winning fights or succeeding in obtaining a new territory in the country.

Yeah.

So actually those two Kyougoku ex-members were actually committing such a 'light' crime if the gang is still alive. Mugging is like a beginner level for them and most of the time, the newbies that are still adapting to their atrocious nature that will tend to do it.

This is not all of it though. This is probably just 50% of the things they've done. God knows how many more horrible things they have done and these were the common and the usual they will do.

And I like to emphasize, they are a corrupted gang. They have no conscience and will do anything for money. They will go to many lengths just to obtain that.

They were monsters.

So that's why after the Haitani Brothers start to rule Roppongi, delinquency in the nightlife city was not as horrible as it used to be. You can say that they did save the city's safety and mostly they mind their own business and do things that are still illegal, but still, Ran and Rindou do prioritize that the shit they do will only involve delinquents and outsiders will not get harmed by it.

Handling fighting matches, and doing illegal car and motorcycle racing, well those things are still illegal and are not approved or have the permission of higher-ups. But come on now, they still need income and in fact, those are one of the most harmless things that people like them did.

In the delinquent world, they can be called saints or angels.

They could be worse but they choose not to, right?

So yeah, muggers are outcasts to the delinquency in Roppongi.

And of course, they will be Kyougoku ex-members. They were still following that corrupted gang's ideology and still trying to revive them back in the city.

They just can't move on that Kyougoku is dead.

Or I shall say...

...the vice leader is dead, because of the Haitani Brothers.

The guy under Rindou can't help but scoff at Rindou's words. He felt like Rindou is being a hypocrite for acting like his better than the muggers when they all know what Ran and Rindou did in the past.

The image of Ran punching their vice leader, Aiba Taiko, relentlessly repeated in his mind. Alongside 12-year-old Rindou, that was locking his leg joints, making him unable to escape Ran's ruthless fists.

He still remembers that day when Ran was smiling like he was enjoying inflicting pain on someone. Like it was a pleasure. The Haitani Brothers have no right to talk about conscience or morals.

Because they're just the same as the muggers.

"But you kill-

Rindou stepped on the person's face harder, making his mouth unable to enunciate his words.

"I didn't say you can talk. How dare you talk back at me?" Rindou's eyes were fuelled with fire, not believing how these muggers still have the strength to talk back after how dreadful Rindou has injured him.

"You want your fate to be the same as that dead vice leader of yours?" Ran said with no ounce of guilt. In fact, he sounded like he was happy when he said it.

Like it's the proud achievement he ever did in his life.

Well, that's what people that don't know Ran will think. When in reality, he was just saying that to provoke the muggers.

No one will have any idea how that day affected Ran and Rindou. Only the both of them know each other's secrets. So that's what they have to do, put an unfazed act and not tell how that day traumatized them.

They were 13 and 12 at that time.

Do you really think they are proud of what they did?

"You have no right to think you're better than us. You've done way worse. You murdered so-

Ran's victim halted his words. It's not like he wanted to but he was incapable of, it after receiving a strong hit from Ran's baton. The hit was right onto his face to the point it caused a concussion.

He passed out immediately and there he is, pathetically lying down in an unconscious state.

Ran only chuckled after seeing the person pass out in an instant. It amuses him how weak he is. That hit was just a normal one and he didn't use much strength.

Pathetic indeed.

"So noisy." Ran stood up from his crouching position and pushed back his baton, making it shorter than it should be. "How can someone talk a lot after getting beaten up so badly?"

Rindou stayed quiet after hearing Ran's words. He was stunned for a while that Ran sounded like he was not guilty about killing Taiko 5 years ago. They both know how horrible nightmares are and how they have to cope with and accept the fact they accidentally murdered someone. And the fact they have overdone themselves just so they can steal the title as the top of Roppongi.

But God, there was no turning back. The guy was dead only because of the skull fracture that Ran had made.

They just need to live and move on, even if they took someone's life.

Rindou let go of the mugger's arm that he has been twisting a moment ago and it seems like his victim was exhausted to fight back. They truly are heavily injured.

It's crazy how horrifying their state is. It's like 100 vs 2 but it's just 2 vs 2, accept that a duo has overpowered them. Their strength was equivalent to 100 delinquents.

Rindou left his victim's unconscious body and instructed his underlings to clean up the mess. They were still at their hideout, except they were in the outside space, which Rindou suggested since it will hurt harder when Rindou stomped on the mugger's face and it sure did.

Ran and Rindou was on their way to walk back to their main centre. The abandoned amusement park sure was humongous and the distance from there sure was far away.

So Rindou took the opportunity to initiate a conversation with Ran as they both walked side by side, "Why are these Kyougoku ex-members so loyal? It's been 5 years already. It's like a never-ending saga to this shit." Rindou shoves both of his hands into the pocket of his pants (he's still wearing the school uniform actually).

"They're everywhere. Still trying to bring back Kyougoku's ideology in this city. Forming small gangs and being delusional to try to overtake us." he continued his words.

Ran looked at Rindou that has his eyes focused on the front, not bothering to reciprocate Ran's gaze. "Well, they've done this a bunch of times, but still didn't succeed." Ran tossed his baton into the air from his hand and catch it repeatedly at ease, without even needing to look at it. "Don't worry, Rindou. They're just a small threat that we can swap away anytime."

Rindou only hummed in response. He still sounded unsatisfied and in fact, he seems to be uneasy, just like when he told Ran what happened to your mother. Something is still making him feel overwhelmed.

So Ran asked, "You still mad? We already got her mother's handbag. Aren't you supposed to be happy?"

Happy.

That's definitely the last thing that Rindou is feeling at this moment.

Getting the handbag. Beating up the muggers.

It's not the end to all of this yet.

This is not the solution to this conflict. In fact, this is just the beginning of something that Rindou will say, a disaster that will happen sooner or later.

Something unavoidable.

But what can Rindou do? He has no choice but to face it.

God, if only he was not in Yokohama yesterday. Probably all of this can be prevented from happening.

Even if your mother survived, a trauma must have been instilled inside of her. Well, not just her, but your whole family. Just because Rindou will be on his way to tell you that he had beaten up the muggers for you and retrieved your mother's handbag, all the trauma will not just vanish away like a sandcastle getting ruined by the ocean.

It stays permanent. The moment will be so short but yet the trauma it causes will last long.

"That's not the case. There's something else I'm worried about."

Ran was confused, "Then what is it?"

"(Last Name)."

"Huh?"

"She might see me differently like she used to. She's going to be scared of me."

They both finally arrived at the main centre of their hideout and just as they were about to enter the entrance, Rindou stopped his steps and looked at Ran with a disappointed expression.

"She'll think I'm no different than those fuckers."
