Maddie Has A Duet...With Mikayla

                                                                                  Chapter 4

Mikayla's POV:

"This week we are going to compete in Colorado. The group routine you are performing is called 'Enemy Fire. It's a fast-paced, energetic, exciting dance. Kendall, you will have a solo this week along with Kenzie and Brooke. Mikayla, you will also perform a duet with Maddie." Abby says.

I freeze. WHAT!

A DUET!!! With MADDIE! I stare fiercely at her. NO! I will NOT perform with that loser! She can't dance!

"Miss Abby-" I start to raise my hand, but she shakes her head at me.

"Okay, moms out, girls, spread apart." Abby claps her hands.

"Okay, we'll start with the group routine. This time, there is no center person. So you are all performing in unison, though there are different sides to it. Enemy Fire is a sort of war based dance. Half of you will be the enemy, half will be the soldiers fighting for freedom." Abby tells us. "So, I have already decided who would be the enemies. Kendall, Paige and Maddie, you are the enemy team. The rest of you are the soldiers."

I sneer at Maddie. Of course Abby would put her in the enemy side.

"Okay, so the enemy comes in first, all of you leaping into the center of the stage." Abby said. "C'mon girls, keep those legs straight."

Maddie, Kendall and Paige soared through the air.

I watched Maddie closely. her leaps are good and high. Higher than the other girls'. I need to aim higher. That's easy because I'm a bit taller than her and have longer legs than her.

"Then, the rest off you will come from the opposite end of the stage and leap." Abby commands us.

I soar through the air, the first one in the line.

I land on pointe, though it's painful.

"Nice job!" Abby claps for me. "See that girls? That PERFECT landing. You don't have to land on the flats of your feet, but if you land on pointe, it will be SO much prettier. Just make sure you don't fall."

Maddie scowls.

I smirk.

We work on the group routine  a bit more before the others are excused and Abby works on Maddie and my solo.

"Okay, so, both of you walk in with BIG BRIGHT beautiful smiles." Abby says. "Then, you both run towards eachother and do an aerial."

I face off with Maddie, take a deep breath and run, launch myself up into the air and land perfectly on my feet.

"Perfect girls." the teacher beams. "Next, you both do six turns and then do a cartwheel towards eachother.

I go on pointe, my body turning and spinning. Then, I have to face Maddie again as we do our carthwheels.

"Then, you hold hands and this is the tricky part. You both have to do a backflip..TOGETHER. In unison. It will be tricky."

I bite my lip. Hold hands? WIth MADDIE!

I reluctantly agree and grab her hand. After two counts we hold our breaths and launch ourselves backwards on the mat.

I land back okay..at least she didn't force me to break my neck or something....

"Perfect..anyways, the next move...."

Maybe this solo with Maddie wasn't that bad after all...
