Nerd School

(Y/N)'s P.O.V

I swing my legs slowly forward and back, the metal bench beneath my hands cool to the touch.

Hiro sets his hand down, his hand overlapping mine for a moment before he jerks away with a startled gasp.

"This place must have you on edge," I whisper in amusement, raising a brow with a grin.

"S-Sure. Totally. The place, yeah. Totally." Hiro stammers before looking ahead.

He laughs awkwardly, waving to Tadashi in the other cell packed full of the people from the bot fight.

Tadashi silently glares at us, his hands clenched around the bars and the others murmuring.

...

The police man held the door open for me, sighing softly as I walk past him.

"Cass!" I nervously greet, watching her pace and bite her thumbnail.

"Hi, Aunt Cass." Both Hiro and Tadashi say, their voices meek.

"Are you guys okay?!" she gasps, quicky turning to us.

Cass grabs my arm, lifting it up and looking around my body for wounds.

"Tell me you're all okay!"

"My elbow is scraped, but that's it," I reply, grunting as she squeezes me in a tight hug.

"We're fine," Hiro nods, sighing as Cass hugs him and Tadashi.

"We're okay." Tadashi agrees, Cass pulling away and setting her hand on their cheeks.

"Good."

Her gaze hardens, making me wince as she pinches their ears and starts to drag them.

"Then what were you three knuckleheads thinking?!"

...

The car ride was silent, Tadashi sitting by the window and Hiro next to him, me squeezed in next to him and Cass.

"(S/N) called me and said she'd talk to you at our place," Cass sighs heavily, her hands tense around the wheel as she informs me she contacted my older sister.

"O--Okay," I nod, anxiously glancing at Hiro.

He offers a small reassuring smile before his hand returns to his bright red ear, rubbing it soothingly as Tadashi does the same.

"For ten years!" Cass huffs, breaking the silence. "I have done the best I could to raise you boys."

...

"Have I been perfect? No!" she continues ranting, parking at her place.

(S/N)'s car was already parked, and she was no doubt inside waiting.

"Should I have picked up a book on parenting?!" Cass sticks her keys in the door, pausing. "Probably! Where was I going with this? I had a point."

"Sorry..."

"I'm really sorry, too," I apologize, bowing slightly.

"We love you, Aunt Cass." Hiro nervously smiles.

"Well," Cass shouts, firmly pointing down. "I love you too!"

(S/N) rises from her spot, her gaze fixated on me as we enter the shop. She rushes over, slightly bending down to my height as she looks me over.

"Are you okay? You're okay, right?"

I nod, looking down as she sighs and places her hand on my head. Hiro looks between us with some concern, no doubt sensing the awkwardness.

"I'm sorry, Cass. I know tonight was beat poetry night," (S/N) apologizes, looking to Cass as she grabs a donut. "I just couldn't get out early. I have to be back before my break is up."

"It's totally fine," Cass' muffled voice replies as she takes a large bite of her donut, turning to Tadashi and Hiro. "Stress eating! Because of you!"

"I hate seeming like I'm rewarding you for this, but I have to work from midnight to seven and can't leave you alone." (S/N) sighs, rubbing her temple as she turns to us. "Cass, would you mind if she stayed...?"

"Not at all!" Cass takes another bite, (S/N) nodding with a relieved sigh.

"Thank you." (S/N) smiles before focusing on me. "No more bot fighting." She lightly knocks my head playfully with each word, making me laugh and wave my arms to get her away.

"Just stay here and play video games or something. Okay?"

"Alright," I nod, (S/N) ruffling my hair and grabbing her purse.

She hesitates for a moment, Tadashi clearing his throat and stepping forward. "You don't have to worry. I'm keeping my eye on both of them tonight."

(S/N) nods, adjusting her bag and smiling over at me with a small wave. "Um... Be... Good (Y/N). Love you...? Bye!"

She closes the door quickly as I cringe, Hiro sucking air through his teeth as he rocks on his feet. Tadashi rubs his neck, no doubt also sensing the tense air around me and (S/N). Cass looks between us before shrugging and walking off, taking another bite.

"Come on, Mochi!"

Mochi meows, jumping down from the table and following Cass as she continues eating the donut.

"This is really good!"

...

"You both better make this up to Aunt Cass and (S/N)." Tadashi lectures, Hiro rushing to his computer and hopping on.

"Hopefully before Cass eats the whole cafe," I joke, making Tadashi snicker as he shrugs off his coat.

"For sure." Hiro mumbles, not looking back.

"And I hope you both learned your lessons. Bonehead and knucklehead," he addresses us, Hiro turning around in his chair with an innocent face.

"Absolutely."

He sends a smirk my way, making my expression fall as Tadashi takes notice.

"... You're going bot fighting, aren't you?"

"There's a fight across town." Hiro nonchalantly replies, pushing himself from the chair. "If we book, we can still make it."

"Hiro," I say disapprovingly, dragging his name out.

"Come on, (Y/N)! We'll be in and out."

"You do realize the danger you and (Y/N) was put in tonight, right?" Tadashi questions in a voice of disbelief.

Hiro pauses for a moment before glancing back at me, looking back at our bot.

"It'll... It'll be fine. I'll be ready this time," he shrugs, walking and grabbing Mega Bot.

Tadashi looks over at me with a deadpan expression, rolling his eyes as he snatches Hiro's hoodie.

"When are you gonna start doing something," he starts, tapping Hiro's forehead. "With that big brain of yours?"

Hiro snickers, smacking his hands away. "What? Go to college like you?" he points to Tadashi's chest. "So people can tell me stuff I already know?"

"Come on, Hiro." I disagree, shaking my head as he sighs dramatically and looks over. "There's always something new to learn. That's why I want to go."

"And that's great," Hiro holds his hands up in defense, his voice genuine. "I totally get that. I'm sure you'll have a fun time."

"It would be even more fun if you were there, too." I mumble, sitting on the bed with a huff.

Hiro remains silent as Tadashi sighs heavily, "oh, what would Mom and Dad say?"

"I don't know." Hiro replies, his mood shifting greatly as I look between them with sympathy. "But they're gone. They died when I was three, remember?"

The air was tense, Hiro turning away from Tadashi as I quickly try to think of something to lighten the mood.

I smile for a moment, snickering slightly. "My Dad would probably hit you with his cane, you know."

Hiro lets out a small, weak laugh. "Yeah... That does sound like something he'd do. He did it a lot anyway."

He rubs his head, seeming to remember all the times my dad would whack him for talking back to Cass, or for going to bot fights.

'You may be smart, but you have to experience life to truly learn. Have fun, make mistakes, laugh and cry. Do whatever. Just be yourself and you'll see. Everything will be all right.'

My smile falters as I remember his words, a small sigh escaping me as I quickly rise.

"Fine. I'm not gonna let you go alone, so... Let's just not get caught this time, okay?"

Hiro grins and nods, "yeah. I looked up a map of the area, and I found our escape route."

He speaks as we walk towards the stairs.

"Hey!" Tadashi's voice calls, making Hiro look back.

He grunts as he catches a helmet against his chest, Tadashi walking over and handing me his extra.

"I'll take you."

"Really?"

"What?"

Tadashi sighs, helping me clip the helmet on as he speaks. "I can't stop you from going, and I promised (S/N) I'd watch over you. And even if she didn't, there's no way I'm letting you guys go on your own."

"Sweet!" Hiro fist bumps the air, bouncing down the stairs.

I walk after Tadashi, him pausing and grinning as he looks back at me.

"How would you like to see your future school?"

...

Third Person P.O.V

"What are we doing at your nerd school?!" Hiro shouts, looking up at the school in annoyance.

Tadashi looks ahead with a small smile, steering his scooter as Hiro lightly shoves his shoulder.

"Bot fight's that way! You can show (Y/N) later or something!"

(Y/N) looks up at the school in awe, looking to Tadashi as he parks the scooter and hops off.

"Gotta grab something," Tadashi shrugs with a grin, watching (Y/N)'s face as she climbs off the scooter and continues looking up at the building.

...

"Is this gonna take long?" Hiro questions, bored.

"Relax, you big baby. We'll be in and out. Besides, look at her."

Hiro sighs and looks ahead at (Y/N) with a neutral, mildly annoyed expression. His face changes slightly as he watches her look around in awe, a big smile on her face. He can't help but smile himself, clearing his throat and looking away when he notices Tadashi staring at him.

"Fine. Let's just... Hurry." Hiro grumbles, rushing ahead as Tadashi lets out an amused laugh.

...

"Over here, guys!" Tadashi calls to the two, (Y/N) grabbing Hiro's hand and rushing him as he pretends to resist.

Tadashi sets his hand on the handle to a set of double doors, grinning.

"You've never seen my lab, have you?"

"No," (Y/N) shakes her head, Tadashi holding the door open for her as she rushes inside.

Hiro rolls his eyes nonchalantly. "Oh, great. We get to see your nerd lab!"

"Heads up!" a woman shouts, speeding past him in a blur.

"Whoa!"

(Y/N) looks back in alarm, her eyes following the woman as she skids to a stop skillfully. She hangs up her yellow bike, grabbing one of the wheels and casually tossing it back as it sticks.

Hiro tilts his head, looking around the lab at the unique inventions. Self-playing ping-pong table, rocket boots for a cat, shoes that walked you, and many other inventions littered the area as people talked.

"Check this out," Hiro breathes out in awe, (Y/N) ducking her head under the bike and inspecting it.

She lifts her hand, waving it in between the wheel and the bike.

"Electro-mag suspension?" Hiro questions, doing the same on the other side.

"Hey!"

(Y/N) jumps, Hiro gasping lightly as they turn to the woman wearing a helmet blocking her face.

"Who are you?" She demands, her voice holding little patience.

"Sorry!" (Y/N) quickly apologizes, stepping away from the bike as Hiro stammers.

"Go Go," Tadashi greets, ruffling (Y/N)'s hair and patting Hiro's back as he steps in between them. "This is my brother Hiro and his best friend, (Y/N)."

Go Go removes her helmet, revealing a woman with short black hair with a streak of neon purple and brown eyes.

She blows and pops a bubble with her gum, blankly staring at Hiro. "Welcome to the nerd lab."

"Nerd lab?" (Y/N) questions as Go Go walks away before her face falls. "Hiro?" She questions accusingly, making him awkwardly chuckle.

"Yeah..."

"Hmm," (Y/N) shakes her head with a snicker, facing Go Go. "Uh... Your bike is really cool. Hiro said it was electro-mag suspension?"

"I've never seen that on a bike before," Hiro adds, Go Go side-eyeing the two as she spins the wheel on her bike.

"Zero resistance, faster bike," Go Go grunts lightly as she removes the wheel. "But, not fast enough."

She swiftly throws it to a bin full of other wheels, dusting her hands off.

"Yet."

Go Go walks away, Tadashi leaning on a counter and watching Hiro and (Y/N) explore with a wide smile.

(Y/N) approaches a man wearing a light green sweater and gloves, his brown eyes focused as he works. Hiro continues walking as she pauses at the tape, the man noticing.

"Oh! Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!" he quickly stops Hiro. "Do not move! With your friend behind the line, please."

Hiro staggers back at (Y/N)'s side, her giggling as he rubs his neck with a bashful laugh.

"Hey, Wasabi. This is my brother Hiro and his best friend, (Y/N)." Tadashi introduces again, gesturing to the two.

Wasabi smiles as he raises his goggles, nodding. "Hello, Hiro and (Y/N). Prepare to be amazed."

He grabs an apple, tossing it behind his back and catching it in his other hand before holding it up.

"Catch."

Wasabi tosses the apple past the two turquoise poles, (Y/N) flinching and Hiro swiftly reaching to grab it from instinct.

Before the apple could make contact with Hiro's hand, it slices into many paper thin slices. Hiro grabs one, (Y/N) looking at it in awe as he turns it over.

"Wow," Hiro admires, tossing the paper thin apple slice.

"How did you...?" (Y/N) starts, Wasabi flicking on a light to reveal the thousands of beams between the two pillars. "Laser-induced plasma?"

"Oh, yeah." Wasabi nods, taking a small tool and setting it in it's precise place. "With a little magnetic confinement for, uh, ultra-precision."

"Wow," Hiro nods again, picking up a tool from its spot. "How do you find anything in this mess?" he jokes, looking through the magnify glass.

"Ah-ah!" Wasabi stammers, taking the tool from Hiro and setting it back down. "I have a system. There's a place for everything and everything in its place."

"Need this!" Go Go shouts, leaning over and swiftly snatching a tool and shifting the others.

"Y--You can't do that! This is anarchy!" Wasabi yells in distress, chasing her. "Society has rules!"

"Excuse me!" a woman with blonde hair and green eyes practically screams, music blasting from her headphones as she rolls a large sphere past them. "Coming through!" she says in a sing-song.

(Y/N) quickly moves out of the way, her and the others following the woman as she uses the wall push the ball onto an X.

"Tadashi!" the woman greets, looking upside down at him. Her eyes flicker to the two by him, making her gasp. "Oh, my gosh! You must be Hiro and (Y/N)!"

The woman quickly stands, still yelling loudly as (Y/N) smiles slightly.

"You both are so cute! And together?! Oh, I've heard so much about you!" she removes her headphones, her voice normal now as she squeezes them in a hug.

(Y/N) grunts from the force, Hiro glancing at her with an awkward laugh.

"Perfect timing, perfect timing!"

The woman presses a button, the black sphere being raised.

"That's... A whole lot of tungsten carbide." Hiro mumbles, the woman shaking his arm in excitement.

"Four hundred pounds of it! Come here, come here, come here!"

(Y/N) yelps with a small laugh as the woman drags her and Hiro to her station.

"You're both going to love this," she releases them, turning a small wheel and activating the station. "A dash of perchloric acid, a smidge of cobalt," she moves down the station, switching another wheel.

"A hint of hydrogen peroxide," she continues, pinching her fingers together and grinning at the two.

She grabs a torch, lighting it as Hiro flinches back, (Y/N) looking around at the station.

"Super heated to five hundred Kelvin, and..." She takes the pink tube, spraying it all over the blacl sphere.

It lingers in the air, (Y/N) tilting her head and glancing back at Hiro curiously as he shrugs lightly.

The woman flicks a switch down, the dust becoming stuck on the sphere.

"Ta-da! It's pretty great, huh?"

"That's so cool!" (Y/N) nods, the woman shaking her as she hugs her.

"I knew you'd think so!"

"It's so... Pink." Hiro replies, unsure of what else to say.

"Here's the best part," the woman says in a sing song before approaching the sphere with a giggle.

She taps it, (Y/N) covering her face as it explodes a bright pink.

"Whoa." Hiro laughs, the woman turning.

Her glasses and coat were caked in pink, some other items in her station also dusted.

"I know, right?!" she laughs, removing her glassed and cleaning them. "Chemical metal embrittlement."

"Not bad, Honey Lemon." Tadashi admires, tucking his hands in his pockets.

"Wait, wait." (Y/N)'s brows furrow slightly, Hiro tilting his head.

"Honey Lemon? Go Go? Wasabi?" Hiro questions, Tadashi opening his mouth to reply.

"I spill wasabi on my shirt one time, people." Wasabi's voice comes from behind them, making them look over as he shoves the doors open. "One. Time!"

Tadashi laughs, shaking his head. "Fred is the one who comes up with the nicknames."

"Fred? Who's that?" (Y/N) asks, glancing around for a moment.

"This guy, right here!"

A man's voice replies, making her turn around and yelp in alarm at his suit. Hiro raises a brow and turns around, gasping and staggering back a step.

"Ah-ah. Don't be alarmed," Fred lifts up the mouth of the suit, peeking out of it and revealing a man with a beanie, blonde hair, and blue eyes. "It's just a suit. This is not my real face and body."

He sticks his arm out, Hiro taking it and shaking his hand and (Y/N) doing the same while looking at the suit.

"The name's Fred. School mascot by day, and by night..." Fred spins the sign skillfully, posing and flicking the head off to reveal his true face. "I am also a school mascot."

(Y/N) pauses for a moment before chucking, shaking her head in amusement.

Hiro looks up at Fred, tilting his head. "So... What's your major?"

"No, no, no. I'm not a student. But I am a major science enthusiast," Fred explains, walking to an arm chair and plopping down before reaching back. "I've been trying to get Honey to develop a formula that can turn me into a fire-breathing lizard at will."

He shows off a comic with a lizard breathing fire, his expression serious before he shrugs and tosses it to the side.

"But she says that's not science," Fred air quotes.

"I-It's really not," Honey stammers, walking to his side as the others join.

"Yeah. And I guess that shrink ray I asked Wasabi for isn't science either. Is it?"

"Nope." Wasabi replies, folding his arms.

"Well then, what about invisible sandwich?"

"Guys," Tadashi calls, making (Y/N) look back as Hiro continues listening to the group for a moment.

"Imagine eating a sandwhich, but everyone just thinks you're crazy."

Tadashi motions for them to follow, making her nod and tap Hiro. He looks back at her, noticing Tadashi and following at her side.

"Please stop." Wasabi mumbles, watching Fred pretend to eat a sandwich in slow-mo.
