Grief

Third Person P.O.V

Robert and Tadashi's framed photos stood side-by- side as people mourned for them. Someone places a candle on the altar for them, another leaving flowers and others leaving small gifts of respect.

Thunder bellowed in the distance, the crowd raising their umbrellas together to protect themselves from the rain as they stand around Tadashi's grave.

...

The shop was closed for the funeral service, Cass talking quietly with Wasabi as Honey Lemon comes around the corner, offering her some tea.

"Here, have some tea," Honey Lemon offers it with a sad smile.

Cass takes it, staring at the liquid with a frown. "(S/N) is still in the hospital and won't be released for a long while. (Y/N)'s going to stay with me in the meantime..."

She explains to Wasabi, him having asked about her.

Cass lowers the tea, slowly glancing towards the staircase with a pained expression as the group offer their sympathy and support.

Hiro and (Y/N) sit on the stairs, Hiro leaning his head on her shoulder as he blankly stares at the steps. (Y/N) gently tapped his knee, making him lift his head as they rise up and go upstairs.

...

A few weeks later...

People continued their daily lives, the streets bustling with cars and people.

(Y/N) leaned back on Hiro's chair, blankly staring at the book's words in her hands. Hiro rose from his spot, grabbing Mega Bot and walking over to her.

He plops down on the beanbag chair besides her, fiddling with their bot as she sighs and sets the book down.

(Y/N) glanced over, Hiro's expression a permanent frown as she sighs. She looks at Mega Bot, its face angry as it seems to stare at them.

Cass knocks, entering as Hiro quickly hides the bot behind his seat. "Hey, sweeties."

"Hey, Aunt Cass." Hiro greets in a weak voice, (Y/N) sitting up slightly.

"Any... other news on my sister?"

Cass awkwardly looks between the two plates of food in her hands, "well... She's... Doing much better. We still can't visit her quite yet, but soon."

(Y/N) deflates and leans back in her chair, frowning.

Cass looks over at her sympathetically before lighting up with a small grin. "Mrs. Matsuda's in the cafe. She's wearing something super inappropriate for an 80-year-old."

(Y/N) manages a weak mumble-like laugh, Hiro simply showing a small smile as Cass walks past them.

"That always... Cracks you guys up," Cass slowly says, setting down the two plates with breakfast food on it.

She looks between their dinner plates, (Y/N)'s barely touched and Hiro's completely untouched.

"You guys should come down," Cass tries to encourage, walking back towards the door with the plates.

"Maybe later."

Was all Hiro replies, (Y/N) spinning slowly in her chair as Cass pauses.

"Oh. Your... High school called again. And the University," she says as she opens the blinds, allowing sunlight in.

"I--I know, I've been struggling to keep focus on online school," (Y/N) admits, glancing over at her computer sitting on Hiro's desk. "I'm catching up. Promise."

Cass nods, satisfied before looking at Hiro. "And, um, Hiro... It's been a few weeks since classes started. But... They said it's not too late to register."

She balances a plate on her arm, gently propping up Hiro's acceptance letter on his desk.

"Okay," Hiro mumbles, not looking at her. "Thanks. I'll think about it."

Cass looks between the two with sadness, (Y/N) slumped back in her chair and staring at the floor while Hiro looked at the ceiling, both like empty shells. She turns, walking downstairs and leaving them alone.

(Y/N) squinted as a car drove past, the sun glaring off of it and blinding her for a moment. She rises and walks to the blinds, closing them as Hiro stands.

He sets Mega Bot on the desk before stealing (Y/N)'s spot, making her playfully shove him as he manages a small laugh.

Hiro turns his computer on, Bot Fights appearing on the screen as he searches for his next match.

"What's that?" (Y/N) questions as an icon pops up, making him tilt his head as he clicks on it.

The gang appear in a small video message, all greeting the two.

"Hi, guys."

Honey glances at them before looking at the camera, "we just... Wanted to check in. And see how you're both doing."

"Wish you were here, Hiro!" Wasabi chimes in.

"Looking forward to having you here soon, too, (Y/N)!" Honey adds with a wide smile, the gang nodding in agreement.

"Guys, if I could have only one superpower right now," Fred starts, "it would be the ability to crawl through this camera, and give you both a big hug--"

Hiro turns his screen off, making (Y/N)'s small smile fall as he sighs and rises. He looks down between Mega Bot and his acceptance letter.

He takes the letter, looking it over for a moment before tossing it in the trash. (Y/N) watches while rubbing her neck, unable to say anything as he grabs Mega Bot.

The lower half of Mega Bot falls, landing on his foot as he yelps in pain. (Y/N) winces with a 'oooh!' as he bounces around, cradling his foot.

"You okay?!" she quickly questions as he sits down, hissing in pain as she lightly touches the bruising.

"Ow!" Hiro groans, (Y/N) swiftly withdrawing her hand with a flinch.

A beeping catches their attention, the sound of something inflating filling the room.

(Y/N) looks back with a small startled gasp, Baymax staring at them while slowly blinking.

Hiro also looks back, Baymax glancing around the room, stuck between Tadashi's bed and bookshelf.

He slowly waddles to the side, squeezing past the bed and bookshelf. Baymax looks up at the two again, (Y/N) and Hiro sharing a confused look.

Baymax glances down, looking back up at them before raising his arms and turning, squeezing past a smaller desk and the bed, knocking down some books.

Baymax, now free, lowers his arms, quickly waddling over to the two and waving. "Hello. I am Baymax. Your personal healthcare companion."

"You're here?" (Y/N) mumbles to herself, Hiro looking up at the bot.

"Uh... Hey," Hiro greets, stammering. "I didn't know you were still active."

"I heard a sound of distress." Baymax replies, tilting his head. "What seems to be the trouble?"

"Karma for trying to Bot Fight again," (Y/N) mutters under her breath to herself, Hiro rolling his eyes with a small scoff before facing Baymax.

"I just stubbed my toe a little. I'm fine."

"Oh a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your pain?" Baymax questions, showing a screen of different emotions.

"A... Zero? I'm okay, really." Hiro awkwardly chuckles, rising. "Thanks. You can shrink now."

"Does it hurt when I touch it?" Baymax tries to touch Hiro's foot, (Y/N) lightly giggling as Hiro pushes him away.

"Th--that's okay. No touching," Hiro walks around Baymax before walking backwards. "I'm fine-- ah!"

"Ow!"

The two yelp, Hiro backing into her and making them fall back.

"Great," (Y/N) groans in pain, the two wedged between Hiro's bed and his dresser. "Walk much?"

"Well, you shouldn't have been standing there!" Hiro argues with a huff.

"You shouldn't have been walking backwards, dingus!" She argues back, attempting to move away from him as they both exclaim.

"Don't-- ow!"

Baymax slowly walks over to the two, looking down at them. "You have both fallen."

"You think?" Hiro groans, (Y/N) struggling to get her arm free.

"Your heart rate is also increasing greatly."

Baymax continues, observing Hiro as his cheeks flush, his eyes widening as he stammers. (Y/N)'s brows furrow in confusion as she manages to free her arm, grabbing the desk.

"My heart rate isn't increasing. Much," she quietly adds the last part, pulling herself up and sighing in relief.

She dusts her shirt off, panting lightly with a grin. "There. Now you, Hiro  Blaming-us-falling-on-me Hamada,  you can get up yourself," (Y/N) teases with a firm nod, crossing her arms as Hiro glares at her with a pout.

Hiro tries to copy her escape path, accidentally grabbing a shelf. He tries pulling himself up, resulting in it breaking.

An action figure falls on him, making (Y/N) snicker as she winces.

"Ow!"

"On a scale of 1 to--"

"Ow!" he yelps as another falls on him.

"On a scale--"

Hiro groans again as another one falls.

"On a--

And another, (Y/N) practically cackling behind Baymax as tears form in her eyes.

"On a scale of 1 to 10--"

She gasps this time, trying to catch the much larger figurine and missing just as it slipped off the shelf, landing on Hiro.

"Ow!!"

"... On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your pain?" Baymax finishes.

Hiro groans, the figurines on his crushed form as he sighs. "Zero!"

"For the record, I tried to catch that last one," (Y/N) peeks around Baymax with a grin, Hiro glaring at her with a playful scowl.

"It is all right to cry."

Baymax leans forward, scooping Hiro up.

"No, no. No, no, no." Hiro blinks rapidly, his cheeks flaring up in embarrassment as (Y/N) laughs, Baymax cradling him like a baby.

"Crying is a natural response to pain."

"Yeah, Hiro," (Y/N) coos, gently patting his head as he smacks her hands away.

"I'm not crying!" he jumps down from Baymax, lightly pushing him away.

"I will scan you for injuries."

"Don't scan me," Hiro warns, firmly pointing to Baymax.

"Scan complete."

"Unbelievable."

(Y/N) laughs as Hiro sighs in annoyance, Baymax slowly blinking.

"You have sustained no injuries.  Baymax starts, Hiro staring at him as (Y/N) tilts her head. "However your hormone and neurotransmiter levels indicate you are experiencing mood swings. And the left tegmental area of your brain has pumped out dopamine when laughter escaped your friend. Common in adolescence."

Baymax pauses, leaning forward slightly. "Diagnosis: puberty and you have an attraction to--"

"O-kay!" Hiro shouts loudly, forcing a nervous laugh as he shoves Baymax.

(Y/N) slowly blinks, awkwardly looking around the room. "Did not need to know you were going through puberty."

"Ha-Ha!" Hiro obnoxiously loudly laughs, still shoving Baymax. "Time to shrink now!"

"You should expect an increase in body hair. Especially on your," Baymax pulls up an image of a boy, "face, chest, armpits, and--"

"Whoa! No! That's-- no!" (Y/N) covers her ears, loudly exclaiming. "Lalalala--!"

"Thank you! That's enough!" Hiro yells in embarrassment, plopping Baymax's charging station down.

"You should also expect strange and powerful new urges as your attraction grows towards your friend--"

"Okay!" Hiro quickly tries to shove Baymax into the station, (Y/N) still chanting. "Thanks! Great! Please, stop talking!"

"-- lalalalala!" (Y/N) continues to chant loudly, not hearing what Baymax had said before she slowly uncovers her ears hesitantly. "Is he done talking?"

"Uhh! Yeah, I'm just-- uh, trying to get him back in his luggage," Hiro replies, climbing onto Baymax.

"I cannot deactivate until you say you are satisfied with your care," Baymax calmly says as Hiro smooshes him down.

"Fine! I'm satisfied with my-- whoa!"

Hiro slips off Baymax, landing on his belly on the floor as (Y/N) winces with a laugh.

"Geez. How many times you planning on getting hurt?" she teases, pausing when she notices him staring under his bed.

Hiro sits up, staring at his jacket in confusion as a whirring noise comes from it. He pulls it out from under the bed, (Y/N) peeking over his shoulder as he takes something from his pocket.

His Micro Bot was whirring, attempting to move as (Y/N) tilts her head.

"What?" she breathes out in confusion.

"My Micro Bot?"

"But... I don't understand," (Y/N) says as Hiro rises, holding the small bot between his fingers.

"Puberty can often be a confusing time for a young adolescent flowering into manhood," Baymax consoles, waddling to them.

"... That's great. But I wasn't talking about that," (Y/N) rushes to Hiro's desk, grabbing a sampler kit as Hiro nods.

"The thing is attracted to the other Micro Bots. But... This is impossible," Hiro sets the bot in the glass bowl, setting the lid over it. "They were all destroyed in the fire."

It continues trying to go somewhere, (Y/N) staring at it with furrowed brows as Hiro shrugs.

"Dumb thing's broken."

He grabs the lower half of Mega Bot, working on fixing it as Baymax holds the small glass dish in his hands.

Baymax moves multiple ways, the bot set on going one direction as (Y/N) exhales softly with confusion.

"Your tiny robot is trying to go somewhere."

Hiro doesn't look back, distracted working on Mega Bot. "Oh, yeah? Why don't you, uh... Find out where it's trying to go?"

"Would that stabilize your pubescent mood swings?"

"... Or make you feel better?" (Y/N) questions, curious to find out where it's trying to go.

"Oh, absolutely. It'll make me feel better," Hiro absent-mindedly responds, not really knowing what he was replying to.

The door to the Cafe opens and closes, the chime ringing out. Hiro blindly reaches around for a moment.

"(Y/N), could you, uh, hand me the other part of Mega Bot?"

He only received silence in reply, making him glance up. He looks back in question, "uh... Guys?"

Hiro rises, looking around the empty room.

"Baymax? (Y/N)?"

The sound of brakes screeching and (Y/N) yelling in alarm startles Hiro, his eyes wide as he swiftly rushes to his window.

He lifts the blinds, pressing against the window in concern when he sees (Y/N) tugging Baymax across the street, horns honking as she yells apologies.

Hiro gasps in fear and alarm, pressing further against the window before shoving himself off of it.

"What?!"
