Tadashi is Here

...

Third Person P.O.V

Honey sighs in relief, Fred groaning from his spot on the floor while Go Go helps (Y/N) stand, supporting her arm over her shoulder.

Baymax slowly blinks, looking over the injured group. "My healthcare protocol has been violated."

He slowly waddles to Fred, helping him up. Fred backs away, a little frightened of Baymax as he looks over the group's expressions.

"I regret any distress I may have caused."

"How could you do that?!" Hiro shouts, stomping over to the group and breathing heavily. "I had him!"

"What you just did..." Wasabi starts, Hiro rolling his eyes and throwing his hands up. "We never signed up for."

"We said we'd catch the guy. That's it," Go Go grits out firmly.

"I never should have let you help me and (Y/N)!" Hiro snaps back, shaking his head.

"Hiro, this isn't--" (Y/N) starts, flinching as he cuts her off.

"Baymax, find Callaghan."

Baymax looks up, his sensor glitching for a moment. "My enhanced scanner has been damaged."

Hiro growls in annoyance before walking around Baymax, "(Y/N), come on. Wings!"

Baymax's wings open as Hiro looks up, avoiding the worried glances of the others.

(Y/N) looks between the group with uncertainty, slowly moving to Baymax's side as he kneels for her to climb up. She winces as a pain shoots up her back before she fully climbs on, locking in her gloves.

"Hiro, this isn't part of the plan," Fred shakes his head, Hiro ignoring him.

"Fly!"

"Guys!" the group shout as they blast off, (Y/N) frowning as she looks back down at their figures.

...

(Y/N)'s P.O.V

I slowly remove my helmet as Hiro shoves opens the garage door, his footsteps loud as he marches over to his desk.

"Hiro," I try as he slams his helmet down, grabbing a ladder and approaching Baymax as he ducks inside.

He removes Baymax's helmet, stepping off the ladder and shoving items aside to make room.

"Hiro, talk to me," I urge, making him pause for a moment before he connects the wire in the helmet to his computer.

"... Your blood pressure is elevated. You appear to be distressed. Talking to a close friend will help," Baymax speaks gently, tilting his head.

"Yeah! See? Come on, Hiro." I urge once more with a small smile, trying to make eye contact with him as his glare remains on the monitor.

"I'm fine," Hiro grumbles, finishing fixing the helmet and walking back to Baymax. "There. Is it working?" he impatiently demands.

Baymax raises his head, looking around. "My sensor is... Operational."

"Good. Then let's get--" he tries to open the access port to Baymax, making me step forward.

"Hiro, what are you doing?" I demand, pausing when it doesn't open.

"Isn't it obvious?" Hiro huffs, tapping the port to open it multiple times.

"Are you going to remove my healthcare chip?" Baymax questions, tilting his head as he scans (Y/N).

"Yes!" Hiro nods firmly. "Open," he struggles, trying to pry open the port.

"Hiro. What are you trying to do?" I demand with a frown, shaking my head.

He ignores me, still trying to open the access port.

"My purpose is to heal the sick and injured. Like (Y/N) is now."

"Baymax, open your access port."

"I'm okay, Baymax," I offer a small smile before focusing on Hiro. "But if Honey hadn't of stopped him it would have been worse, Hiro."

"I unintentionally harmed (Y/N) due to my chip being removed. Do you wish for me to accidentally harm her again?" Baymax asks, tilting his head.

"What? No! Of course not," Hiro snaps, yanking on the cover.

"Then do you want me to terminate Professor Callaghan?"

"Just open!" Hiro yells, slamming his fist on the armor before popping off Baymax's chest plate.

"Will terminating Professor Callaghan improve your emotional state?"

"Yes!" Hiro flinches, shaking his head. "No! I don't know! Open your access!"

"Hiro, we both know it wouldn't!" I rush to his side, setting my hand on his arm as he jerks away. My brows furrow, frustration building up as he continues avoiding looking at me. "Do you really think this is what Tadashi would want?"

"That doesn't matter!"

Baymax looks between the two, focusing on Hiro. "Tadashi programmed me to aid and--"

"Tadashi's gone!" Hiro screams, slamming his fists against Baymax as I jump, my heart aching for him.

Hiro slowly turns to me, tears gathering in his eyes as he slowly steps down the ladder towards me with a broken expression. "Tadashi is... Gone..."

My heart ached for Hiro as I step forward, wrapping my arms around his torso and pulling him in a hug as he cries. He pulls me closer as he softly sobs, his tears dripping down his cheeks and onto on my armor as I rub his back.

"Tadashi is here." Baymax speaks up.

"No..." Hiro sighs, his grip loosening slightly. "He's not here."

"Tadashi is here."

We both look towards Baymax as the screen on his stomach flickers, a familiar voice speaking.

"This is Tadashi Hamada," Hiro softly gasps as Tadashi appears on the screen, grinning widely and holding up a chalkboard. "And this is the first test of my robotics project."

He clicks a button, Baymax powering up. "Hello. I am Baymax--"

A loud screeching makes me wince as Tadashi frantically covers his ears. "Stop! Stop, stop stop!"

A choked laugh escapes me at the face he was making, the video paused. Hiro chuckles as well, his eyes remaining glued to Tadashi.

Tadashi appears again, "the seventh test of my robotics project."

He activates Baymax with a hopeful expression, backing away. "Hello, I--"

The screen glitches to Baymac slapping Tadashi around as he yelps, struggling to deactivate him.

Baymax's arm goes flying with Tadashi's cap as he screams, "wait, wait, stop! Stop scan! Stop!"

The screen ends with him shouting before another video plays.

Tadashi looked exhausted, bags under his eyes and his hair disheveled with his cap over it.

"Tadashi Hamada again," he sighs heavily. "And this is the 33rd test of my robotics project."

Before he could even begin, electricity crackles from Baymax and causes a power outage.

Tadashi appears with a flashlight, sighing again and rubbing his stubble.

"I'm not giving up on you. You don't understand this yet... But people like (F/N) need you," he grins, my eyes widening for a moment before I smile softly. "So, let's get back to work."

Hiro looks down, more tears appearing in his eyes as he glances between me and the screen.

Tadashi reappears, looking more miserable than the last video as he sighs heavily. "This is the... Fifty-seventh test."

He deflates, shaking his head and dropping his clipboard before taking a seat at his desk. "Why couldn't I finish you before...?" (F/N) needed you and I didn't... I couldn't..." He sighs softly, groaning. "Dang it!"

A frown forms on my face as I watch Tadashi yank his hat off and slam it on the desk. Hiro sets his arm around my shoulders, giving a comforting squeeze as we continue watching.

"Man..." he yells in frustration, kicking his trashcan before gasping and yelping, hobbling on one leg. "Ow! Great, now I'm upset and in pain. Fantastic."

Tadashi holds his aching foot, sighing before noticing a whirring sound.

"... Hello, I am Baymax. Your personal, healthcare-- companion." Baymax suddenly starts, making Tadashi look over and blink rapidly. "I-- heard... ow--" His voice begins to go static as he speaks. "Scanning--" he powers down.

"That is the smoothest I've heard you talk!" Tadashi laughs, leaping up and approaching Baymax with a brightened expression. "Okay... okay, buddy. I can't give up. Let's get back to work."

The screen pauses before Tadashi reappears, rubbing his face with a heavy sigh. "This is... Tadashi Hamada. And this is the..." he checks the board. "Eighty-fourth test."

He rubs his neck, peering up at Baymax with doubt before smiling. "What do you say, big guy?"

Tadashi activates Baymax, standing back.

"Hello, I am Baymax..."

Tadashi mouths along word-for-word, his eyes widening slowly as Baymax continues.

"... Your personal healthcare companion." Baymax finishes, not struggling to speak and remaining active.

"... It works..." Tadashi breathes out with wide eyes before gesturing wildly to Baymax with a large grin. "It works!"

He laughs, running around and running a hand over his hat. "Oh! This is amazing, you... You work!"

Tadashi places a kiss on Baymax's screen out of happiness, pulling away and leaping while waving his fists. "I knew it! I knew it, I knew it!"

Hiro lets out a quiet laugh, tearfully smiling as I giggle at Tadashi's behavior.

"Oh, you work. I can't believe it, I can't... Okay," Tadashi regains his composer, sighing to calm himself. "All right, big moment here. Scan me."

Baymax whirrs as he scans over Tadashi, "your neurotransmitter levels are elevated. This indicates that you are happy."

"I am!" he breathlessly laughs, his smile never leaving. "I really am. Oh, man..."

Tadashi looks up at Baymax with hope, "wait till my brother and (Y/N) see you. You're gonna help so many people, buddy."

Hiro wipes away a stray tear, my own eyes filling up as I try to keep them at bay.

"So many," Tadashi shakes his head with a chuckle. "If only you could help knucklehead with his feelings."

Hiro stiffens, my brows furrowing in confusion as I look between him and Tadashi.

"Ah, well. That's all for now. I am satisfied with my care," Tadashi happily smiles, Baymax powering down himself.

Hiro sniffles, wiping his tears as Baymax's screen goes dark.

"Thank you, Baymax," Hiro smiles, Baymax slowly blinking. "And I... am so sorry. To both of you. I guess I'm not like my brother."

"Don't say that," I chastise, grabbing his hand as he looks back at me. "Tadashi would be proud. I know I am. Sure, you've made some dumb choices, but we're human. It's natural."

Hiro manages a smile, making me mirror him.

"As long as you grow and learn from your mistakes, it's all right if you screw up a few times," I continue, smirking after a second. "And if you don't, I'll knock you upside your head. Got it?"

He laughs, sighing in amusement. "Thank you, (Y/N)."

I pull him in for another hug, his arms wrapping tightly around me instantly as a whirring comes from Baymax.

"Your blood pressure is stabilizing. (Y/N) brings you great comfort."

"Oh, Baymax," I huff, pulling away from Hiro and laughing. "You always make things so blunt and awkward."

"... Oh, no. I apologize for any discomfort," he says after a moment, waddling over to a corner as I laugh.

"Wait! You don't have to leave!" I laugh as I watch him, smiling with amusement.

Hiro shuffles on his feet, "uh... Baymax-- he's... Usually not... wrong."

"What?" my face heats up slightly as I tilt my head, recalling what Tadashi said.

Hiro flushes a bright shade of red, not saying anything else as I slowly question.

"What Tadashi said... About your feelings... What was he talking about?"

"You... You're smart, (Y/N)," he gulps nervously, staring at his feet. "You know already, don't you?"

"It would be nice to hear it, in case I am wrong," I admit, fiddling with my gauntlet anxiously.

Hiro takes in a deep breath, seeming to think carefully before exhaling. "Every time I'm around you I feel... Happy. I feel like I can breathe easier, I feel like I could literally do anything with you there to support me," he chuckles to himself, shaking his head.

"Then again, you would be right there helping me. Not just standing on the sidelines support," he continues, looking over at me with a bashful grin that reveals his gap. "We've been best friends for a long time, and I just... Don't want to be just friends anymore. I want more than that."

My face seems to get hotter with each sentence, Hiro quickly looking away and clearing his throat.

"B-But I totally get if you don't... Feel the same," he struggles to say, distracting himself with his helmet.

"Hiro..."

"We could just go back to exactly how we were--"

"Hiro."

"And forget I did this heartfelt, yet embarrassing, confession. Just two friends--"

"Oh my gosh, Hiro!" I cut him off in amusement, walking towards him and grabbing his hand. "I don't want to be friends."

"Oh," Hiro blinks rapidly, deflating. "I'm sorry-- I shouldn't have said anything--"

"Because," I firmly interrupts again, making him snap his mouth shut. "I also want more. I never thought you'd ever feel the same way."

A slow, wide grin spreads on his face as his eyes light up, his fingers curling around my hand.

"Can--" Hiro starts, his voice cracking slightly as I giggle, his cheeks turning even darker. "Can I... Um... Never mind--"

"Yes... You can," I smile softly, setting my hand on his cheek as he gulps audibly.

Hiro leans forward, hesitating as his eyes flicker between my eyes and my mouth, making my heart flutter. His hand lightly trembled in my own as he swiftly presses a chaste kiss against my lips, pulling away with a blush reaching from his ears to his neck.

A wide smile spreads on my face as I laugh, Hiro relaxing and grinning.

The sound of a woman squealing makes the two of us jump, the squeal followed by the sound of people frantic shushing.

Hiro and I look over to the garage entrance, Honey's hands over her mouth and the others over hers.

"Guys!" I groan with embarrassment, pressing my palms to my cheeks as Hiro rubs his neck awkwardly.

"I'm sorry!" Honey nervously giggles, Go Go pinching the bridge of her nose.

Honey's smile fades to concern as she glances to Hiro, Wasabi and Fred doing the same while Go Go removes her helmet.

I take Hiro's hand, gesturing with my head to the group and reassuringly smiling as he sighs deeply and nods.

"Guys, I..." he starts, his voice shaking lightly. "I, uh... didn't... I was..."

Go Go sighs, approaching before wrapping her arms around us in a group hug.

"We're going to catch Callaghan," she softly speaks, pulling away. "And this time, we'll do it right."

Hiro looks back at me with a grin as I nod, the others relaxing as Wasabi speaks. "Eh, but maybe don't leave your team stranded on a spooky island next time?"

My smile falls as I wince, Hiro groaning and face palming. "Oh, man."

"Nah, it's cool," Fred waves off, shrugging. "Heathcliff picked us up in the family chopper."

Honey digs in her bag before pulling out a USB plug, "guys, we found something you should see."

I take it, sharing a concerned look with Hiro before plugging it in to his computer.

The footage rewinds, showing the aftermath of Krei shutting down the machine.

"You almost got us all killed!" the General bellows in anger.

"Krei!" another voice screams, Callaghan staggering in with (F/N) supported on his shoulder. He slowly helps him to other scientists gathering before lunging at Krei. "You did this! (F/N) said it wasn't safe! You knew it wasn't ready!"

The General and other people hold him back, Krei flinching away.

"Callaghan?" Hiro mumbles, blinking rapidly. "He was there?"

"He was such a good man..." Honey sighs, shaking her head. "What happened?"

"There has to be something else here," I suggest, lightly moving Hiro aside to type.

The footage rewinds further, "wait! Wait, stop!" Honey suddenly says, making me jump and halt the footage. "There he is."

I zoom in on the footage, Callaghan smiling softly at Abigail before hugging her tightly.

"That's the pilot," I remind quietly, Hiro perking up.

"Hang on," he rewinds the footage more, zooming in to where Abigail was stepping inside the pod.

"We've invited all these people--"

He quickly rewinds it again before clicking her helmet, the last name Callaghan imprinted on it.

"Abigail Callaghan," I realize, Hiro nodding. "His daughter!"

"He blames Krei," Hiro finishes, the others perking up in surprise.

"This is a revenge story," Fred dramatically mumbles, a small smile forming on my face.

"We need to get to Krei," I firmly say, putting my helmet on as Hiro pushes himself up.

"What are we waiting for? Let's go!"
