Chapter 6

(Play Song, start at 3:00)

"This is the night, It's a beautiful night and we call it Bella Notte."

The two dogs put their paw prints in wet cement, and put it in a heart that had two initials, one 'HY' and 'AY'.

"Look at the skies, They have stars in their eyes."

~

Y/n and Dabi watched as fireflies flew around the two and continued.

"On this lovely, Bella notte."

~

"Side by side with your loved one, You'll find enchantment here."

Y/n and Dabi looked down at two swans as they swam by them.

"The night will weave its magic spell, when the one you love is near, for this is the night,"

~

The two looked out at the bright moon and Y/n cuddled into his black fur.

"And the heavens are right, on this lovely,"

A couple sat in their sled with their reindeer next to them, another couple sat with their red horse pulling their carriage and two cats sat in a tree with their tails intertwined together.

"Bella notte."

In the morning, Y/n slowly opened her eyes with a groan, she looked at the sleep dog next to her but gasped in shock to see a very dirty white shepherd instead.

"What the!?" This made Dabi shot awake and looked around when he saw Y/n's shocked face.

"What?" He asked in worry.

"Your fur is white?" Y/n asked. Dabi quickly stood up and frantically tried to explain. "Hey. Woah, calm down, I'm not mad. Just shocked."

"You're not?"

"No. I actually really like it." Y/n smiled up at him and licked his nose.

"And I should probably tell you something else." Dabi said.

"Like what?"

"My real name is, uh, Toya." Toya said, and Y/n smiled at him.

"I don't know why you changed your name in the first place," Y/n said. "But you don't have to hide who you really are, to me, anymore."

Dabi chuckled in relief, but paused when Y/n started to look around.

"Is something wrong?" The now white dog asked.

"It's morning."

"Yeah." Toya chuckled and started to groom the leftover soot off of him. "So it is."

"I should have been home hours ago." Y/n sighed.

"Why? Because you still believe in that "ever faithful old dog Tray" routine?" Toya guessed and followed after Y/n, who was trying to find her way home. "Come on, Mouse. Open up your eyes."

"Open my eyes?"

"To what a dog's life can really be," Toya said. "I'll show you what I mean." Dabi looked down the hill to see the city in all its glory. "Look down there. Tell me what you see."

Y/n peered over and saw homes.

"Well, I see nice homes with yards and fences."

"Exactly. Life on a leash." Toya said, pushing her head up. "Look again, Mouse."

Y/n looked up and saw creeks, hills, mountains, and the sun that seemed to go on forever.

"Look, there's a great big hunk of a world down there with no fence around it. Where two dogs can find adventure and excitement. And beyond those distant hills, who knows what wonderful experiences? And it's all ours for the taking, Mouse. It's all ours." Toya smiled, a genuine smile. One that wasn't forced, wasn't fake, it was real.

"It sounds wonderful." Y/n said and looked down.

"But?" Dabi's smile dropped.

"But who'd watch over the baby?" Y/n sighed. Toya looked at his feet and shook his head.

"You win." He muttered and looked up at her with a smile, a fake one. "Come on. I'll take you home."

~

"It's a beautiful night," Toya started to sing to himself, as the two rounded a corner. "And they call it-" Toya stopped when he noticed something and he called up to Y/n. "Not to change the subject, but ever chase chickens?"

"I would never." Y/n replied.

"Then you've never lived." Toya chuckled and started to dig a hole under the fence to a chicken coop.

"But we shouldn't." Y/n said.

"I know. That's what makes it fun." Toya pushed himself through his new hole and Y/n looked at the hole. "Come on, kid. Start building some memories."

Y/n crawled through the hole and stood next to Toya.

"Fine. But we won't hurt the chickens."

"Hurt them? No. We'll just stir them up a bit." Toya reassured and stalked towards the chicken coop with Y/n behind him. "Just look at those fat, lazy biddies, they should've been up hours ago."

Toya went inside and barked at the chickens, they all ran/flew outside and Y/n dodged all the chickens coming at her. Toya came out and started to chase them around the pen.

"Some fun, hey, kid?" Toya shouted over the squawking chickens.

"Hey! What's going on in there?" A farmer shouted and shot a gun in front of Toya and Y/n.

"What's that?" Y/n gasped.

"The signal to get going. Run!" Toya pushed Y/n towards the hole and they quickly crawled under and ran.

"This is living, hey, kid?" Toya cheered, but Y/n just ran as fast as she could. "Come on, Mouse. Follow me." Toya ran through a pipe with water flowing through it. As the two ran Toya jumped over a fence and Y/n stopped not wanting to risk it and hopped over on trash cans. When she jumped down a net flew over her and she fell to the ground.

Toya ran behind a big sign and paused to hide.

"You know, there's a little bit of bird dog in all of us, Mouse." Toya said and turned around, only to Y/n not behind him. "Mouse? Mouse? Mouse? Where are you, Mouse? Mouse!"

Toya ran around trying to find her, and he ran past the pipe and called.

"Little Mouse? Mouse!"

~

Y/n sat in the back of the dog pound carriage when she heard Toya yelling for her.

"Toya!" Y/n yelled, only for the dog catcher to yell at her to shut up.
