The Argyrian Book of Law

The United Sectors of Argyris is a country set in an alternate universe taking place in what's to be today's England. That being said, it's much unlike Panem, and has many laws similar to the ones we have today.

Here are some important ones that you may need to know about:

Child Labor Laws

- Minors under 12 may perform irregular odd jobs in private households performing duties such as babysitting.

- Minors under 12 may not be employed or permitted to work or accompany an employed parent or guardian into an agricultural zone of danger, unless the minor is employed by the parent or guardian on or in connection with premises that the parent or guardian owns, operates, or controls.

- Six is the minimum age that minors may engage in door-to-door sales or street sales of candy, cookies, flowers, or any other merchandise or commodities. However, minors under 12 may not engage in these activities unless they are exempt from permit requirements.* All minors under 16 may only engage in these activities under certain specified conditions.

Education Laws

- Minors aged 6 through 15 years must attend school full-time unless the minor is a high school graduate, attends an approved alternative school, is tutored, is on an approved leave absence, has transferred from another sector with less than 10 days left in the school year, or has justifiable personal reasons requested by the parent and approved by the principal including illness, court appearances, religious observances and retreats, funerals, or employment conferences.

- Under rare circumstances, 14- and 15- year-olds enroll in Work Experience. Students may be granted a permit to work full-time during school hours.

- 16- and 17- year-olds who have not graduated from high school or who have not received a certificate of proficiency may opt to attend part-time classes. Those who are regularly employed must attend continuation classes for at least four hours per week. Those not regularly employed must attend continuation classes for at least 15 hours per week. No minor may legally drop out of school entirely.

Treason Laws

- Whoever owes allegiance to the United Sectors of Argyris and levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United Sectors of Argyris or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death.

- Whoever, owing allegiance to the United Sectors of Argyris and having knowledge of the commission of any treason against them, conceals and does not, as soon as may be, disclose and make known the same to the King or Queen, judge of the United Sectors of Argyris, the governor, or to some judge or justice of a particular Sector, is guilty of misprision of treason and shall either be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than seven years, or both.

- If two or more persons in any Sector or Territory, or in any place subject to the jurisdiction of the United Sectors of Argyris, conspire to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United Sectors of Argyris, or to levy war against them, or to oppose by force the authority thereof, or by force to prevent, hinder, or delay the execution of any law of the United Sectors of Argyris, or by force seize, take, or possess any property of the United Sectors of Argyris contrary to the authority thereof, shall be executed.

- Whoever knowingly or willfully advocates, abets, advises, or teaches the duty, necessity, desirability, or propriety of overthrowing or destroying the government of the United Sectors or the government of any Sector, Territory, District or Possession thereof, or the government of any political subdivision therein, by force or violence, or by the assassination of any officer of any such government; or
Whoever organizes or helps or attempts to organize any society, group, or assembly of persons who teach, advocate, or encourage the overthrow or destruction of any such government by force or violence; or becomes or is a member of, or affiliates with, any such society, group, or assembly of persons, knowing the purposes thereof—
May be punished by death, by orders of the Queen.

Prostitution Laws

- IT IS LEGAL to communicate with the intention of selling sex in certain circumstances.

- IT IS ILLEGAL to sell sex near any area where a person under 18 years of age could reasonably be expected to be present. Notably school grounds, playgrounds or day care centres.

- IT IS ILLEGAL to purchase sexual services or communicate with the intention of buying sex. This is punishable by up to five years in jail and fines that begin at $500 and increase with subsequent offences. Fines double if it is done anywhere minors may be present.

- IT IS LEGAL, technically, to advertise one's own services.

- IT IS ILLEGAL to advertise the sale of others' sexual services e.g. back-of-magazine as well as online ads. This law extends to those who would run ads, and to publishers and website administrators.

Testing Laws

- Once a child has reached the age of 18, they are required to take a test that determines which sector best suits their skill set.

- Following the test, they will be given the option to remain in their own sector or be transferred to the sector of their test result.
