Nancy's POV

"MIKE LETS GOO!", I yell, turning down the radio in my car. "We're going to be late!"

"I'm coming." I hear a deep voice yell out in response.

I turn around to see Mike jogging towards the car caring a suitcase in one hand and two bags in the other. He runs up to the vehicle quickly, to avoid dropping everything on his way. He tosses his luggage into the backseat.

"Ready?" I ask him with annoyance in my voice due to how long he is taking.

He starts to nod but then freezes as his eyes scan the bags he just placed in the car.

"SHIT I forgot the flowers inside!", he says panicked. "I'll be right back!"

"MIKE SERIOUSLY!" I exclaimed, throwing my hands up in the air.ย ย

"ONE SECOND, OKAY!" he yells at me as he runs back in the house.

I roll my eyes and lay my head against the steering wheel.
Mike has been all over the place the last couple of days. However, I can understand why. Sure he's excited to see his best friend Will again, but he hasn't seen El in forever, and he wants to make the moment perfect for her. It's pretty cute to watch. He's totally head over heels for this girl, and he even admitted it to everyone that he loved her back in July.

Which reminds me, I don't even know what they are, since last time Max said that she "dumped his ass". Who knows..., young love is so confusing.

A few seconds later, I see mike running up with a bouquet of red and pink roses, gasping as he opens the car door next to me and sits down, catching his breath.

He looks at me, still trying to catch his breath. He furrows his eyebrows. "What are you waiting for, let's go!".

I roll my eyes and laugh to myself. Now that Mike's ready, he wants to leave as soon as possible. However, I dont bring it up since there's no reason to start fighting with him as we still have a long drive to the airport ahead of us.

I start the car as Mike turns up the music beside me, starting to settle in.

The first 30 minutes of the drive were pretty quiet. I was getting a little anxious as well as excited, thinking about when I get to see Jonathan. We haven't seen each other in a while now, we still talk on the phone from time to time, but it's different. School is so weird without him, and I feel as if there's a part of me missing without him around me. However, these last few months, I've been hanging out with Steve and Robin a lot since I decided to take a gap year before college. It was a hard decision to make, but I needed it due to all the shit that has happened to my friends and me the past few years. I need a break to clear my mind and find myself before entering a new chapter in my life.

-

"So..", I start, getting bored of the silence between us. We haven't talked in a while, and I feel that this trip to see the people we love is the perfect opportunity to fill in on each other lives.

He looks up at me, waiting for me to continue.

"You excited to see El?", I ask him as I turn to look at him, smiling with my eyebrows raised.

He turns his head away for me, a smile spreading on his face as a faint blush covers his rounded cheeks.

He shrugs in response, trying to act casual. "I dont know,... I guess."

"Oh, please!" I exclaim mockingly, slapping my hand against the steering wheel."seriously Mike, everyone knows you love her!"

He doesnt say anything for a second, clearly too embarrassed to speak and I start to feel bad.

"Hey Mike, it's okay I get it," I say trying to comfort him. "You are nervous to see her again for the first time in a while. And you want it to be the perfect moment. But in life, there are no true perfect moments."

He says nothing as I continue. "That's why you have to take a moment and make it perfect."

He finally looks up at me, as a wide grin appears on his face. "Wow, you sound so stupid saying that", he chuckles.

"Hey!" I say slapping his shoulder playfully.

"Thank you, Nancy, seriously," he tells me as our laughs start to fade.

"No problem", I answer, smiling.

"Enough about me", he starts in a playful tone. "What about you and Jonathan!"

"Mike dont start with me ok", I start laughingly try to sound serious.

"Oh but why, isn't he your true lovee!", he blurts out mockingly.

"Mike, stop!" I yell, not being able to contain my laughter, noticing the heat rising in my cheeks.

He joins me in a laugh, and I can't help but notice how great it feels to bond with my brother. Before these last three years, we didn't really get along much less talk to each other. But with all the shit that has gone down in Hawkins, we were forced to work together, building a relationship as brother and sister.

-------- {Mikes POV}-------

Nancy was right, I am trying to stay calm on the outside, but deep down, I am freaking out.ย  I want to make this trip everything that I have been hoping. I want to prove to El in the next few days in which we are staying with the Byers, that I am the ideal boyfriend and show her that I will always protect her. I want to show her, just how much she truly means to me.

Nancy and I continue to talk the whole car ride to the airport. She asked about whether or not El and I are back together. I told her everything, about me giving her space in the months between their move and Hopper disappearing and, when El said to me that she loved me too. Just thinking of those memories gave me butterflies and I can't recall how many times I've blushed and heard Nancy say "awe" during this drive.

And before we know it, we are at the airport, and only 3 and a half hours away from seeing them. This is the first time that I have ever been on an Airplane. I am a little nervous about flying, but I will do anything for El, even if it scares me.

-

As the plane touches the ground, all the built-up tension leaves my body, and I dry my sweaty palm on my pants. Nancy looks over at me from the aisle seat.

She smiles, leaning over towards me. "Almost there!"

I smile at her in response. We only had another twenty-minute drive until we arrive at the Byers house.

-

Nancy places all of our luggage in the trunk of our rental car as I open the Map of Illinois that we just bought to find where we need to drive.

"Found it!" I yell out as she sits down in the driver's seat.

"Ok good!" she sighs, exhausted from lifting the luggage. "Let's go!"

A few minutes into the drive, I start to get really nervous, picking at my fingernails.

Nancy must've noticed it as she reaches for my arm. "Hey."

"Dont worry just relax, it'll be perfect okay?", she says, rubbing my arm comfortingly.

Nancy's right, the more I worry, the less natural us seeing each other again for the first time in a while will be. I have been thinking about this moment since the day we said goodbye to each other. And now, its almost here, the moment where I will be able to hold her in my arms again. And that moment doesn't need any preparation. Either way, it'll be the perfect.

The car starts to slow as we begin to drive on a gravel road.

"Ok," Nancy says, eyeing the houses around us. "There it is she points to a decently sized townhouse with trees surrounding it.

The car stops as I take a deep breath in and get out of the vehicle. I reach for the flowers and start to head towards the door with Nancy beside me.

My heart is racing and beating a hundred miles per minute. I'm still a distance away from the door as I see the door opens slowly is pulled open.

And then.

I see her.
