Chapter 5:
Black Hole Sun

Ten minutesβ€” that's how long Hunter's been standing in front of the Black residence. She stared at the red house, contemplating if she should knock or leave. Jacob was just inside, she could hear him. She needed to talk to him, even if he was the one being rude to her, she couldn't go back home knowing he was upset with her.

She lifted her fist and inhaled sharply, but before she could knock, her shoulders tensed up. "I'm right here." Jacob spoke into the night. She turned around and found him approaching her, his shirt missing as usual.

Hunter let a small smile climb onto her face and she met him half way. "Nice to know you're still you and not a wolf." Jacob clenched his jaw. He was still upset with her and just looking at her, made him feel better. But he didn't want to change his mind, he had to fight for her this time.

Β Β  "Nice to know you're still here." He bit back, earning a frown from her. He scanned her attire, she was now in jeans and a t-shirt. The dress she had on hours ago fit her perfectly and he missed it, but this was enough.

Hunter shoved her hands in her pockets and refrained from laughing in his face. "Jake, you do know that acting like this won't get you anywhere? I don't wanna be around mean Jacob. I want nice, caring, understanding Jacob."

Β Β  "Yeah well he just left the building."

His face was still, filled with emotions that she couldn't interpret. But one thing she did know was that this was one of the reasons why Jacob wasn't boyfriend material for her. He was trying to manipulate her, even if he wasn't intentionally doing it. He was using his anger to convince her to stay, to give into what he wants, but it wasn't going to work.

Β Β  "Oh well that's too bad then. Make sure you tell him that I stopped by." Hunter sassed before walking away. She shook her head and scoffed, thinking that this was a waste of time.

Jacob rolled his eyes, "Wait." She halted in her steps and turned back around, awaiting what he would say next. "I'm sorry okay? I just don't want you to go."

Hunter shrugged, "That's not up to you."

Β Β  "I know." He mumbled, closing the space between them once more. He grew out a bit of a scruff, a short beard hugging his chin and cheeks. It was a good look for him but she'd never say that out loud. "But you should still know that I need you."

She pursed her lips and glanced away, "Jake-"

Β Β  "No, I want you. I want you to stay. You don't understand how severe my feelings for you are. I'm seriously losing my freaking mind over you." He explained desperately. She peered up at him and her throat ran dry. "I thought about you everyday when you were gone, how I could've and should've done things differently with you. I won't let you slip away from me again."

Hunter pressed her hand against his chest softly and held back her anger. He was so persistent on getting her to love him back and it was hard to constantly tell him no. She hated hurting his feelings, but she won't be coaxed into this. "Jacob, you never had me."

His hands fall back at his sides and his eyes cloud over. She could see that she had officially broke his heart, but there was no going back. "I don't love you like that and I don't think I ever will. I appreciate you caring and wanting me to stay, but it's my decision. And if you're really my best friend, you wouldn't let this come between us."

Her eyebrows furrowed as his face relaxed, almost as if he was never mad. He nodded reluctantly, "Fine. But don't expect me to stop fighting for you." Hunter sighed. She didn't expect him to just forget about his feelings, things like that take time, she would know.

She nodded and brushed her hair back, "I'm glad that's, you know, fixed." Jacob just watched her, his face still emotionless. The air shifted and she wanted to disappear so bad. The day had been an epic fail for her and she couldn't wait to escape.

Β Β  "I should go." She whispered. Jacob's mouth opened to speak but Sam's voice was the one she heard. "Actually, we need you to stick around."

Hunter huffed out, the entire pack shuffling in behind Sam. Jacob stared down at the ground knowingly. His face was full of regret and disgust. He didn't want what was about to happen, to happen. Sam had been planning this for a while and he tried his hardest to prevent it, but there was no going around Sam.

Β Β  "And why's that?" Hunter asked, crossing her arms and leaning her weight onto one leg. She couldn't think of one reason why any of them needed her. Paul stepped beside his alpha with his chest held high, something that made Hunter stiffle a laugh. "You need to join the pack." He said seriously.

Hunter glanced at Jacob who in turn, looked away from her shyly. A few seconds of silence went by before she bursted into a fit of laughs. The fact that she was the only one, made her laugh even harder. She couldn't believe that they actually thought she would even consider joining.

Β Β  "It isn't funny." Sam huffed quietly. He knew she'd act like this but it was time. She needed to fulfill her destiny, regardless if she was part vampire, it was what her father wanted.

She grabbed onto Jacob to steady herself as her laughs turned into giggles. "Wait, you guys are serious?" She asked between breaths. They all, including Jacob, nodded their heads. Hunter let go of Jacob and her smile disappeared instantly.

Β Β  "No." She answered, connecting her hands to her hips. "I won't do it." Sam's nostrils flared as they always did and he copied her stance, "You have to, it's apart of your lineage."

Hunter scoffed, "Screw my lineage. I won't be having kids. Ever." Jacob sent Sam glances, silently telling him that he told him this would happen. Hunter didn't want to be this way, she was always a lone rider. Asking her to join the pack was a useless idea.

Β Β  "It's what your father wanted." Sam added, hoping that the information would somehow helped. Though it didn't. Hunter shook her head angrily and refrained from simply walking away. Sam knew nothing of what her father wanted. "My father would've given me the option to join. Not shove it in my face and force me to. So no, I won't do it. End of story."

Jared, Embry, and Seth groaned, Jacob and Paul chuckled, and Sam fumed at her response. He wasn't used to being disobeyed but he's been warned on multiple occasions that Hunter was a tough nut to crack. "You have to." He hissed.

Hunter licked her lips before stomping over to him, much to Jacob's dismay. He towered over as her eyes scanned the alpha with anger but he didn't fold. "I don't have to do a thing. You're not my alpha and you never will be."

She sent a pointed look to the rest of the boys before moving to walk away.

But Sam was quick, and grabbed her wrist. She twisted back around, now seething with anger, "Let go of me." She spit.

Β Β  "Sam stop." Jacob growled, moving closer only to be held back by the rest of the boys. Sam kept his blazing eyes on Hunter's and he resisted the extra strength that was threatening to come through.
"You may not be in the pack, but you'll want to be. It's in your nature. You'll be weak with out us, lost."

Hunter struggled against his grip but she didn't stand down. "The only thing I'll want to do is rip your hand of your body if you don't let go of me." Sam stared for a moment, watching a dark shade glimmer in her eyes before releasing her.

She gripped her own wrist, rubbing it soothingly before glaring back at the tall alpha. "I don't need a pack, I can protect myself."

Β Β  "Oh like you protected yourself against Victoria?" Sam retorted, ignoring the two women, Leah and Emily, who walked out curiously. Hunter clenched her jaw. Her hunger crawled up her throat and her breathing turned irregular. Heart beats were all around her and she could feel the string of control she had rip.

Jacob eyed her warily, seeing the conflict stirring in her eyes. "Hunter wait!" He warned. In a flash, she left the vicinity of Sam and grabbed a hold of the closest person, Paul.

Her arm wrapped around his shoulders and her teeth sank into his neck, a yell leaving his lips just as his blood leaked into her mouth. "Hunter!" Sam yelled, holding his hand out to stop the other wolves from attacking.

She unlatched her mouth from Paul and her eyes rolled to the back of her head. The werewolf blood didn't taste any different than human blood, it was euphoric for her, something she desperately needed. Paul struggled against her strong grip and the wound prevented him from transitioning.

Everyone watched in horror, one of their own feeding off of another. "I thought vampires can't drink our blood!" Paul screeched, desperately wanting to get away from her. He wasn't afraid, only surprised and disgusted.

Β Β  "I guess I'm the exception." She spoke, blood staining her teeth and chin. Leah jumped forward but stopped when Hunter brought her face closer to Paul's neck. "Do not provoke her." Jacob told them all, watching his friend carefully.

Hunter nodded and held Paul in place, as if he was a human shield. "Listen to Jake. I have been starving for months and I will not hesitate to drain you all." Seth gulped nervously, watching Hunter's entire facade change drastically.

It was like there was a dark entity taking control of her body. The minute she tasted the blood, she broke into a frenzy. "Okay, you don't have to join the pack. Just let him go." Sam pleaded, holding his hand out to her carefully.

Hunter backed away with Paul, a whimper leaving his lips as a result. "I'm sorry." She cried out, her eyes watering. "I didn't want to leave on bad terms with anyone. But I'm just so angry and hungry all the time. I can't live off animals and blood bags anymore. I need something real, something stronger."

Β Β  "Hunter, we can help you. We can help you get back on track." Emily tried, her voice soft yet fearful. The hybrid shook her head as tears slipped out. She wanted so badly to let go of Paul, to say that she was sorry and leave without anymore problems, but the blood smelled so good and it was calling to her.

Β Β  "You can't help me. No one can." She whimpered, leaning her head against Paul's as soft sobs escaped her lips. His hands gripped her arms and his jaw was clenched tightly. Now he was afraid. She didn't seem keen on releasing him.

After a few more sobs, laughter replaced her tears. Hunter stood up straighter and tightened her grip on Paul, "How dramatic is all this? I went from happy to mad to sad to mad again all in twenty minutes."

Β Β  "Enough Hunter." Jacob told her, inching forward.

Β Β  "How about you try being in my shoes for a day? None of you would last five minutes." She hissed. Paul grunted and struggled against her arms, he could feel his wound healing but he wasn't counting on it.

Leah scoffed, "Enough with the life tragedies, we get it, you've been through a lot. Now let go of Paul." Hunter craned her neck over to the older werewolf and smirked, "You've been through a lot too. I can tell by the way you carry yourself, Eeyore."

Leah jumped forward again but was held back, "Let me go, I can take her."

Β Β  "Leah stop! she'll kill Paul." Her younger brother Seth pleaded, keeping his hand on her arm securely. Hunter rolled her eyes and shoved Paul towards the group.

Everyone calmed down once Paul was in their grasp and they waited for what she'd do next. Though she only stood there, "Consider us even." She said to Paul. He grimaced in pain but sent her a thankful look.

Β Β  "I don't look so weak now do I?" She asked Sam, a smile playing at her lips. He sighed, accepting the fact that he underestimated her. She was perfectly capable of defeating them all singlehandedly if she wanted to, and he knew that now. But seeing her strength only made him even more determined to get her on the pack.

Β Β  "I'll be back tomorrow. I wanna see what my dad wanted me to be apart of." She mumbled the last bit, feeling guilty of the looks of fear she got. It had to be done. She had to prove to them that she was fine on her own, but her control was not as contained as her strength.

Β Β  "Like hell you're coming back here." Leah growled.
Sam held his arm out once more. He knew his pack was afraid but she still shared their blood. Sam sent her a short nod, accepting her offer.

Hunter shuffled awkwardly before she zoomed off the reservation. Her mind screamed at her to go back and finish Paul off, the new discovery that she could feed off werewolves giving her anxiety. But she couldn't, those people helped to protect Bella and Winston. Those people accepted her despite who she was, she couldn't extend her betrayal.

So she forced herself into her car and she drove back to the Cullen home. She couldn't trust herself around Charlie.

She couldn't trust herself around anyone.
