chapter 3: Did you hear that?

Y/n p.o.v.

I woke up to my head leaning against something warm or rather someone. A blanket covering most part of my body. Not realising what was going on I closed my eyes again. "Hey, Y/n did you sleep well?" Wilson asked you in a soft gentle voice. A sigh escaped your mouth and you made yourself comfortable. "Just give me one more minute." "W-we need to get up to a-at least eat s-something." His voice sounded even softer than before and he seemed uncomfortable. It then hit you right in to your guts. Opening your eyes with your head resting on is his shoulder, realizing you had snuggled up against him while you were half asleep. You got up as quickly as possible to create some space between the two of you. "I thought you would be able to stay awake?" Wilson teased you a little. "Shut it big brain boy." You whispered. He seemed to be different from yesterday he looked weaker, maybe sad no that wasn't it. "You didn't sleep last night, did you?" He turned away from you. "You can't expect me to sleep knowing that I just met someone after all these months. Who is hurt and to stubborn to take some rest while I'm sleeping? What kind of gentleman would I be if I do that. I still feel bad about my behavior yesterday so my apologies for my reaction." While folding the blanket and placing it in his tent you listened to his speech. It was pretty funny how formal he was even in this weird scenario. "I get it you take things far to literally. I can't blame you after spending so much time on your own in this dangerous place. Sorry that I didn't take your offer but I'm still to nervous to be at ease in this place. Besides it would be rude to grab every offer you'd give to me." He appreciated your understanding and got up to make some jam for breakfast. Not sure if he had a blush on his face or it was just your mind playing tricks on you.

After you both finished Wilson got up. "I'm going to hunt for some food. You can stay here and watch the camp. Take some rest and take it slow the more you let your hand at ease the bigger the chance is that you get to use it again soon." You grabbed your backpack and your knife. "Nope! I'm joining you. It is safer that way and you can teach me how to hunt." Wilson shook his head. "No, I'm sorry y/n. I don't want you to risk to opening your wound. You need to rest and if I can't chance your mind. I am afraid that I'll have to stay with you and make sure you're not doing something stupid." You stared at him for a while knowing he was right, But... being the stubborn adult that you were. "No I'm still going with you, since you decided that it is more important to stay up all night. We both are weak so we need each other the most right now." Wilson gave you a tired yet happy smile. "Fine you can come along with me but I will do the hunting and you stay safe. Do not come close while I do the work. Beefalo's can be rough beasts to handle. So don't come near me while I'm fighting one." His voice was stern and you didn't know if it was purely to protect you from any harm or that he wanted to prove himself as someone who could take care of both of you. Shrugging it off while collecting your journal and writing materials. "Let's go." The two of you left his camp to find some dinner.

"So anything you would like to talk about?" Your voice broke the awkward silence between the two of you. Knowing danm well you've asked the same question before. Wilson looked at you and titled his head. Like a confused puppy hearing a weird noise. "not anything I could think of at the moment." You had to try your verry best to not make an 'aawwwwww' because you thought it was super adorable what he just did. "Wait!" Wilson held his arm infront of you to stop you from walking forward. Almost bumping into his arms, yet you managed to stop right in time. Giving him a confused look not knowing what was going on. His stance was stiff and he focused on a noise. "Did you hear that?" Low growls could be heard and the noises came creeping closer. It was horrifying it sounded like a few gigantic beasts. "Hounds, we've gotta leave they're dangerous since they travel in packs." He held his spear thight in his hands ready for an attack. Out of nowhere three giant black dogs jumped on top you two. One started to attack you with a few attempts to bite your face of. The other two were wrestling with Wilson. You managed to plant your knife in the beast his neck. It was a surprise that you escaped the thing without a scratch. Your companion on the other hand wasn't as lucky as you. One of the two was killed and the last hound was getting to close to win the fight. Wilson his right arm was bleeding and he had a bunch of scratch marks covering his body. You ran over to him and the beast grabbing the creature's neck and holding it in place. Giving Wilson the opportunity to kill the thing easier. Both of you tired from the fight. "Y/n! Are you okay!?" He stumbled towards you in a hurry. "Who cares? You are looking terrible. Give me me your arm. Are YOU okay?" You spoke soft voice while staring him right into his eyes with a worried look. "Who cares?" He replied with a chuckle and a forced smile. "I do you idiot. It looks like someone knows how to smile for a little at least." Lending him a hand to support him. He was weak and used his spear as a walking cane. Hissing in pain cause of his wound. Without a word you snatched his arm, careful in a way not to hurt him. Wilson froze at your sudden action, but didn't stop you. Examining his wound which was a deep cut in his right upper arm. It was dangerous not sure if it was a deathly or not. Altough very sure you had to do something about it immediately. "We need to head back to your camp. It's a deep cut you've got there. We've got to put some pressure on it or you might lose to much blood and pass out." "W-wait what are you doing!?" He tried to stop you from ripping the sleeves of your hood using your pocket knife. Ignoring his attempts by simply grabbing his arm and tying the two sleeves above and underneath his wound "it's not much but it is something at least." Wilson seemed a little impressed by your action. Night time was about to start and the two of you made a quick run for it to make it back to his camp.
