Lucas POV

Today's the day when I ride Tombstone the bull, I woke up bright early and went straight to the treehouse after I got dressed. I looked at the view of the whole house and the woods behind the backyard, you couldn't get a view like this in new york. Pappy Joe called me down for breakfast so I headed down.

PJ- You excited?
Lucas- More of nervous.
PJ- I believe in you sonny.
Lucas- Thanks Pappy Joe.
Zay- More syrup please.

I handed the syrup over to Zay, the girls weren't awake yet. Farkle was busy adding a pound of powdered sugar to his pancakes. We finally saw the girls walk out of their room in their outfits. Maya still wore my cowboy hat with a blue dress and brown leather boots. Riley wore jean shorts and a red flannel shirt with a white tank top under. They looked amazing.

Riley- We got some news.
Lucas- What is it?

Maya's face turned bright red and almost greenish purple, I heard Riley whisper to her, "Are you sure you wanna do this?" Maya nodded.

Lucas- So??
Riley- Well we called the rodeo officials and-
Maya- Lucas you don't have to ride Tombstone.
Lucas- What?
Farkle and Zay- Really?!
PJ- Why?!?
Riley- Because, Peaches is,
Maya- Lucas, I'm gonna ride the bull for you.
Lucas, Farkle, Zay, PJ- What!?
Riley- Uhm, Peaches are you sure you wanna do this?
Lucas- No! You can't!
Maya- Yes I can!
PJ- No you can't darlin! Lucas here gotta get our family name a plaque! What about the record?
Lucas- What about Maya's life!?

I can't believe what I was hearing! Why would Maya decide to ride the bull for me?

Lucas- Maya can I talk to you, alone?
Maya- Yeah, sure, ok.

Me and Maya went up to the treehouse and we each sat on the floor.

Lucas- Why would you ride Tombstone?
Maya- I don't want you to get hurt!
Lucas- But you can kill yourself!
Maya- Your life is so much more valuable than mine!
Lucas- That is not true! Who made you think that?
Maya- My dad!

There were tears on her face, and a deep silence filled the room.

Lucas- Then your dad is the worst person in the world.
Maya- Lucas I'm going to ride that bull whether you like it or not.
Lucas- You'd really want to risk you life for me?
Maya- Always.

I just stare at Maya from what she just said, she really meant it. I can't believe that she just said that.

Lucas- You're not riding that bull.
Maya- Then if I'm not, you aren't either.
Lucas- Maya I have to.
Maya- Why?
Lucas- So I can prove to myself that I'm good enough!
Maya- You want to ride Tombstone just so you can prove to yourself that your good enough?
Lucas- Yes.
Maya- But why?!
Lucas- Cause I'm a freak! I couldn't ride a sheep! I don't even know what I can do or feel anymore Maya!
Maya- I don't know how I feel either!
Lucas- Not like that!
Maya- Then what?

I looked down at the wooden floor then out the window.

Maya- Wait, this isn't just about proving to yourself isnt?
Lucas- Maybe not.
Maya- You want to prove to Charlie that your strong! You can take him down!
Lucas- Maya let's not put Charlie in the picture, we all know what he did to Riley.
Maya- What did he do to Riley?
Lucas- You know.
Maya- No seriously I don't what did he do to Riley!?
Lucas- If you wanna know ask Farkle!
Maya- Lets not think about that, we're talking about you Huckleberry.
Lucas- Maya I'm not going to let you ride that bull.
Maya- You sound like me now. Now you know how I felt when you were going going to ride Tombstone.
Lucas- Wait what are you saying?
Maya- I'm not going to actually going to ride him, I just wanted to see how you were going to feel if I'd put my life at risk like that.
Lucas- So you're not riding Tombstone?
Maya- He's all yours.
Lucas- That's the first time I'm happy to hear that!
Maya- Just remember, if your in danger, yell my name.

I held both of Maya's hands.

Lucas- I'll yell your name even if I'm not in danger.

Maya smiled and headed down back to the breakfast table. Everyone gave us a smile as we sat down, me and Maya looked at our intertwined hands and let go. We all ate our breakfast normally, at least I guess it was.

Maya's POV
We went into the refreshments tent until it was Lucas' turn to ride, ugh, Tombstone. We watched on the TV all the riders, we saw Tombstone trample a rider and the ambulance take the man away. My heart pumped fast and my breathing wasn't normal.

Maya- Lucas Friar, I can't let you ride that bull.
Lucas- Maya but you said, that I could.

Lucas held both of my hands and looked into my eyes.

Lucas- I promised remember?

I just nod and keep hold of his hands.

Speaker- Will Lucas Friar enter the rodeo field and be prepared to ride Tombstone the bull.

PJ- Lucas go ahead.

Lucas let go and was about to step out of the tent, I had to stop him.

Maya- Lucas,
Lucas- Yeah,

I went over to him and kiss his cheek.

Maya- Be careful.
Lucas- I know.

I watched him and Pappy Joe and Lucas walk out of the tent. Zay, Riley, and Farkle followed.

Riley- You coming?
Maya- Yeah, I - i'll catch up.
Riley- Ok.

I watched the two walk out of the tent, I decided to take a deep breath and just have some time to think.

I sat down by one of the tables on the chair. I just sat there thinking about anything really, until I felt someone say next to me...

Riley POV
I actually didn't go ahead like I told Maya, I'm her best friend, so I waited for her! It's been 5 minutes and she hasn't come out yet. I decided to walk back into the tent, I saw her talking to someone, someone familiar.

Riley- Charlie?
Maya- Charlie, get away!
Charlie- Aw come on! We can't have some fun?
Maya- You're bad news!
Charlie- Is that what they've been saying about me?
Maya- You're also old news.
Charlie- C'mon, if I can't have Riley, can I at least have her prettier friend?
Maya- No.
Charlie- Why not?! We're perfect, two good looking people, we'll be the power couple of school!
Maya- I don't want to do anything with you.
Charlie- It's not like your taken. Your Maya Hart, you don't like anybuddy.
Maya- I am taken.
Charlie- Oh yeah, who?

I watched Charlie move closer and closer to Maya. Maya looked strong and also very nervous.

Riley- She's with Lucas.

I watched Maya and Charlie look at me as I walked towards them.

Charlie- Ah, I see, Riley,

Charlie put his hand over his heart, not that he has one.

Charlie- Riley! You are a doll! You "stepped back" for your bestie for Lucas! So your free?
Maya- She didn't step back for me, he came to me by choice.

Me and Maya both knew that we were lying to Charlie, we both know that we could that all day.

Charlie- If I ask Lucas, and he says that your not his boo, you're all mine.

Me and Maya nodded and went to see Lucas.

We reached the ranch field and were about to watch Lucas ride Tombstone. Once the loud speaker called his name Maya was nowhere to be found.

Maya POV
I ran away to the back field and sat against a tree. I didn't want to watch Lucas get hurt. It's been 10 minutes and Lucas hasn't called me, he said that he would call me even if he wasn't in trouble. I was getting really scared, was he?? No he couldn't have...right???

I sat in my spot for a while. Soon I saw two figures, it was Riley and Zay.

Maya- Hey.
Riley- You didn't watch.
Maya- I know.
Zay- Why?

My two friends sat on both sides next to me.

Maya- I couldnt.
Riley- What do you mean?
Maya- I couldn't watch him.
Riley- You couldn't watch him?
Zay- She couldn't watch him get him hurt.
Maya- I couldnt.
Riley- You care so much that you couldn't watch him-
Maya- Get hurt.
Zay- Beat the record.
Maya- What?
Zay- Yeah, he beated the record.
Riley- 8.5 seconds.

I smiled at my friends, my smile faded as I wondered if he got hurt.

Maya- Is he okay?
Riley- Yes, he wants to see you.
Zay- I can bring you to him.
Maya- Yeah, sure.

I walked with my two friends back to the refreshments tent. I saw Charlie talking to Lucas, my heart stopped for a moment. I wanted to run, Lucas saw me and I looked down at the floor.

Zay- Here's Maya.
Charlie- Oh, hey Maya.

I didn't say a word.

Charlie- I guess Lucas is your boyfriend.

I didn't know that Lucas lied to him also. Everyone was silent, only Charlie was flapping his mouth.

Charlie- I guess I should be going, oh and one more thing.

Charlie walks over to Riley and kisses her on the lips, Riley's eyes went like saucers, Farkle looked furious. Charlie waved at all of us but none of us waved back. Farkle and Riley looked at each other, Riley gave a "It's not my fault" look, Farkle then gave a "I know it isn't" look. Me and Lucas look at each other and just look away. There was silence. Riley and Farkle were furious, Farkle didn't know what to do. So he hugs Riley out if nowhere and in return Riley kisses him on the cheek.

Riley- I would never do that to Charlie.
Zay- Are you two a thing now?
Farkle- Uhm.
Riley- Uhhhhhhh.
Maya- Riley I need to talk to you.

Riley- Yeah sure.

Me and Riley walked out of the tent and back to the tree.

Maya- Riley,

Riley- Yes, Peaches.

Maya- What happened to you?

Riley- What are you talking about?

Maya- First, in 7th grade you said you liked Lucas ever since you fell into his lap, now? You and Farkle?

Riley- Maya, I have feelings now. New feelings.

Maya- I know that, but this isn't the way it should be.

Riley- Maya, what are you talking about?

Maya- Change is horrible.

I looked straight at the ground, keeping my head down. Riley lifted my head and looked at me.

Riley- Peaches, what's the matter?

Maya- Do you like Lucas?

Riley looked at the ground now, she does doesn't she?

Maya- Okay, you still do.

Riley- Maya,

Maya- Its okay Riley.

Riley- Maya, I don't like Lucas like that!

Riley's voice went loud then calm again and looked back at the ground.

Maya- What?

Riley- Maya, I know you want me to like him. But I can't.

Maya- What?

Riley- Now that I've thought about it, Lucas is so much like me.

Maya- Which makes the two of you perfect.

Riley- And, I don't wanna guy who's so much like me. He really is like my brother Maya. He-he's like the boy version of me! And I don't wanna be with the boy version of me in that kind of more-than-friends relationship.

Maya- Wait are you backing up? Riles, you don't have to.

Riley- Maya, I am not backing up. I stopped liking Lucas ever, ever since a few days before Christmas.

Maya- The day you kissed Farkle?

Riley- Yes. And I never realized how much I liked Farkle ever since Lucas came back and when he looks at you. Gosh, he never looked at me like that, or when he saved your life.

Maya- Riley, but that's all about Lucas, you'd be giving the same reasons if you were backing up!

Riley- Maya, I stopped liking Lucas ever since I finally opened my eyes and actually saw the way you cared about him. The way you looked at him, the way you like...him.

Maya- Riley, I can't be with Lucas.

Riley- Why? Because of Josh? Because of me?

Maya- Because of me.

Riley- Why, you?

Maya- Because Riley, I don't know how I feel anymore. And I'm so, so, so proud and happy for you for knowing how you feel now. But, I don't, that's why, I can't like or love anyone. Not until, I get my heart sorted out.

Riley- I understand.

Maya- Thank you.

Riley- So, should we go back to them?

Maya- Sure.

Me and Riley walked back to the tent to get everything sorted out.

Lucas- So we good now?

Maya and Riley- Yes.

Zay- So, its Riley and Farkle?

Farkle- Uhm...

Riley- Yes.

Riley went over to Farkle and held his hand, Farkle looked at her and they exchanged smiles.

Zay- And the two of you?

Me and Lucas looked at each other.

Lucas- Maya I-

Maya- Lucas, I cant like you or anyone till' I get myself sorted out. I-I'm sorry.

I walked out of the tent crying and headed back to the house and cried myself to sleep.

Lucas POV
I watched Maya walk out, there were tears on her face. I wanted to run after her, Riley decided to tell us what they talked about.

Lucas- Riley you don't have to tell us.
Riley- But I want to.
Lucas- Okay.

Riley sat down and took a deep breath.

Riley- Maya thinks that if she likes two people at the same time her heart isn't right.
Farkle- But I always loved you and Maya equally and I was fine.
Riley- Yes, but Farkle, you chose since the other didn't get hurt.
Lucas- It seems like Maya's hurt.
Riley- But it's not because of us. It's because of her.
Lucas- What are you talking about?
Riley- She thinks if she can't learn to love when she doesn't know what love means, she can't like anyone, not yet, not now.
Lucas- O-okay.

I walked out of the tent and ran my hands through my hair. I kicked a tree and rode some horses, I don't think I can do this. I can't wait until Maya learns to love, so that she has a chance to...love me.
