The Reunion, Part One.

Prompt: a school reunion imagine where the pack and the other people from BHHS see each other again after idk 5 years and the reader and stiles see each other too and they used to have crushes on each other so stiles is kinda flirty with her but she's more shy and distant bc she's been hurt a lot but they somehow end up together? – anon

Author's Note: So, I really love this prompt, and at first it was just going to be one-shot type deal, but then a friend told me about how their high school reunions are and my ideas just went from there. One thing led to another, I got carried away, and if I left it as a one-shot, it would have been waaaay too long. So, I'm turning it into a little mini-series. How "mini"? I'm not sure yet. At least three parts... maybe four... or more. Who knows. We'll see where it goes and if y'all like it and want more. (:

I hope you don't mind this, anon. (: Thank you for requesting!

Here's part one, and I hope to get part two finished and posted by next weekend.

Enjoy, and as always, your feedback is greatly appreciated! (:

The Reunion, Part One.

Oh my gosh. Why am I even going to this thing? I don't go to these kind of things. I'm not a socializer. This is going to be a disaster; I just know it. (Y/N) thought to herself as she straightened out her dress after stepping out of the cab that dropped her off in front the hotel lobby. She turned back toward the cab driver and paid him the fair before turning back towards the entrance of the hotel. You can do this, (Y/N). She thought to herself as she let out a deep breath.

"Not to sound like a creep or anything, but you look really nice tonight." She heard the cab driver say from beside her.

She turned back towards him and offered him an appreciative smile. "Thanks." That compliment actually settled her nerves a little. If she ended up making a complete fool of herself in front of her old classmates, at least she would look nice doing it.

It was the first night of the reunion weekend and she wanted to make a good impression; one that said she had her life together. She wore a black, knee length, one shoulder dress and black strappy heels. She kept it simple with the jewelry; a black and gold watch, black ring, gold earrings, and the gold dove pendant necklace that she got from a friend as a high school graduation gift. Simple yet sophisticated... at least that's what she was going for.

She walked through the hotel doors and followed the signs that read Beacon Hills High Class of 2016, which eventually led to the doors of the ballroom. She took a deep breath and exhaled slowly before walking through the doors and looking around. She was actually pretty impressed with the set-up. Chandeliers lit up the large room. Tall tables were scattered about where old friends reunited with excitement. There was even a small dance floor in the center where a few people were dancing to the upbeat song that the DJ was spinning. If it weren't for the rather large cocktail bar, she'd think she had stepped back in time to her high school prom.

Checking her watch, (Y/N) noticed she was only about twenty minutes late. Not too bad considering the traffic on the way there. She made her way over to the bar after grabbing her name tag. If she were going to make it through the night, she was going to need a drink or two.

"Can I get a Wild Strawberry Amaro, please?" (Y/N) asked the bartender who nodded and got to making the drink.

"(Y/N)?" She heard a familiar voice call from behind her and turned around to be met with one of the smartest girls she's ever encountered.

"Lydia! Hey!" (Y/N) said with excitement. She hadn't seen Lydia since the summer after senior year before everyone went off to college. She still looked the same; medium-length strawberry blonde hair styled perfectly, equally as perfectly done make up, and a red beaded cocktail dress that was surely the latest fashion trend. Lydia was the one who always looked like she had her life together, no matter what struggle she was going through.

"How are you? I feel like we haven't spoken in forever." Lydia stated as they both leaned in for a quick hug.

"I know. I've just been really busy finishing up school and working. I'm sure you know how it is." (Y/N) tried to say easily. It wasn't like she was lying. She had been busy, but she knew she could have put forth more effort into staying in contact with everyone. She had different reasons for that though. Plus, living on the other side of the country didn't help either.

Lydia nodded her head in understanding, "oh yeah. I think everyone in this room is thankful to have a weekend off from the real world." She said with a little laugh, and (Y/N) laughed in agreement with her. "So, everyone else is at a table over there. You want to join us? I'm sure they'd love to see you and catch up."

There it was. What she was most nervous about was happening right off the bat and she didn't even have a drink in her yet. Oh boy, here we go. She thought to herself before nodding with a smile, "yeah, sure." She responded before grabbing her drink off of the bar and leaving the bartender a tip.

"Great!" Lydia said with the usual pep that (Y/N) knew her for. "Everyone's going to be so excited to see you." She continued as they maneuvered through the somewhat crowded ballroom.

"Who's everyone, exactly?" (Y/N) spoke over the music as they passed the DJ and the speakers. She needed to know so she could mentally prepare herself in case he was there.

"You know, the pack." Lydia almost whispered the word pack as she leaned a little closer to (Y/N) so no one would hear. "Scott and Kira, who are still adorably happy together. Malia, who actually came with Theo, if you can believe it or not." Surprisingly, (Y/N) had no trouble believing it. "She says he's changed apparently. Isaac even showed up! Liam, Hayden, Mason and Corey decided to crash too. We told Derek that he should join us sometime this weekend, but he never gave us an exact answer, so who knows."

As Lydia continued to name off everyone, (Y/N) was more concerned about one name in particular. "What about Stiles?" She asked casually as they got closer to the table, she didn't see him standing with everyone.

Lydia laughed a little, "late as usual, of course." Lydia said without hesitation. (Y/N) couldn't help but wonder if Lydia and Stiles ever got together after high school... or if he was still practically in love with her. "Hey, guys! Look who I found!" Lydia exclaimed as they approached the table.

(Y/N) offered a shy smile and a wave as everyone at the table greeted her with bright smiles. Scott was the first to come around the table and give her a giant hug, followed by Kira and everyone else. "It's so great to see you, (Y/N). How's the east coast treating you?" Scott asked before taking a sip of his beer.

"Freezing me to death in the winter, that's for sure." She joked in an attempt to avoid her real answer.

Everyone laughed along with her. "I remember that feeling." Kira chimed in. (Y/N) had almost forgotten that Kira was an east coast native.

The next thirty minutes or so passed by with small talk and catching up with one another as everyone spoke of their college experiences and new jobs or job prospects. There was still no Stiles though. (Y/N) didn't miss the easiness of everyone else's conversations and the shared stories. They weren't really catching up at all considering they all still spoke almost daily and lived within driving distance of one another.

It all caused (Y/N) to need a breather for a bit. She excused herself from the table and made her way out of the ballroom and to the balcony that she knew was on the next floor up. The cool breeze brought instant relaxation as soon as she walked out the door. She walked up to the balcony wall, sat her drink down, and took in a deep breath of the salt water air before exhaling slowly with her eyes closed.

Opening her eyes, she studied the view in front of her. The night sky blanketed above the ocean as high tide rolled in on the beach below, and the stars were out in full force. She loved views like this. She didn't get views like this in the city. Below, she saw old classmates mingling on the patio and pool area and heard the music escaping the room into the night air. She couldn't help but laugh and shake her head at the old, familiar song. She could just picture everyone on the dance floor attempting to do the Whip Nae Nae down below.

"Remember when you tried to teach me that dance?" She could hear the smirk forming on the lips of the familiar voice that made her breath hitch.

She must have been so wrapped up in her thoughts that she didn't hear him come out there, but now she definitely noticed his presence as he stood next to her. Say something, (Y/N). You can't just ignore him, her subconscious told her. So she laughed as she remembered the memory of trying to teach him the dance in her room after the song played on the radio while they were studying. "Yeah, you never did get your leg to bend the right way."

Stiles chuckled as he looked up at the night sky. "Still can't. My legs just aren't meant to bend that way."

(Y/N) laughed, and then a silence fell between them for a couple of minutes. With some newfound bravery, she decided to be the one to break it. "How'd you find me up here?" She asked out of curiosity. She knew she hadn't told anyone where she was going.

He turned to face her, a hand in his slacks and the other holding a water bottle. She mimicked him as she grabbed her own drink and placed her other hand on her hip. "Lydia told me you were here, but disappeared somewhere. And knowing you like I do, I knew you were probably escaping the crowd because parties and socializing gives you anxiety. We're alike in that way."

She could see the small grin that formed on his lips as he said the last sentence. She almost wished that there wasn't a light fixture out there so she wouldn't have to see the grin that used to make her weak in the knees, and apparently still does. "And me possibly getting over said anxiety within the last five years didn't cross your mind?"

Stiles nodded his head a little, "it did for a minute, but that's not something that can be easily gotten over. Hell, I still struggle with it. So, I assumed maybe you did to... especially since you haven't seen any of these people in five years." He snuck that last part in there, but she chose to ignore it.

"Okay, but that still doesn't tell me how you found me up here." She stated before taking a sip of her drink.

He simply shrugged his shoulders and pointed to the view of the ocean and the night sky. "You love views like this." He paused for a minute, and she took a minute to recoil at how well he still knew her. "I'm guessing you don't get many views like this back in New York, huh?" By now he had turned his back toward the ocean, casually leaning against the railing as he took a sip of his water.

(Y/N) shook her head as a sudden sadness came over her and she thought about life back in the city. "I mostly get views of city lights, skyscrapers, and brick buildings, unless I venture out of the city, of course."

"Well, that can't be too bad." Stiles said.

She shook her head again, "no, but I miss the stars." She said with a small smile before looking back up towards the twinkling lights above them.

He nodded in understanding, "yeah, I would too." He looked up at the stars and then over at her for a second as she continued to study the constellations. A small smile spread across his face. Damn, he was happy to see her again.

A silence fell between them again as they stood there looking out at the view for what seemed like forever. He noticed her shiver and cross her arms over her chest as she ran her hands up and down them for warmth. He quickly took of his jacket, "here." He offered as he held it out, waiting for her to stick her arms through the sleeves.

"Oh no, I'm fine. Thanks though." She declined.

"(Y/N), come on, it's just a jacket. You've got chill bumps." He urged, noticing the little bumps running up and down her arms. "I'm not letting you say no to this jacket when your clearly cold." He continued.

She sighed and finally complied, sticking her arms through each of the sleeves. "Thanks." She said with a shy smile. The scent on the jacket filled her nostrils, and she had to stop herself from relishing in the familiar smell. He still smelled the same, and that made her happy for some odd reason. The familiar combination of amber, sandalwood, musk, and hint of vanilla warmed her.

"I know everyone else has already asked you this, and you're probably tired of getting asked, but there's no way I can't ask you how you've been." Stiles rambled a little.

(Y/N) knew this question was coming, but it still didn't prepare her to answer. She knew she couldn't lie to him because he would most likely see right through her, but she also couldn't tell him the whole truth. How was she supposed to tell him that every job she applied for out of college has turned her down? That one real relationship she had been in shattered her heart, not only emotionally but physically? That in a city of millions, she felt all alone sometimes?

She couldn't bring herself to do that, "it's been great." She lied before taking a sip of her drink to try to hide her face.

Stiles studied her for a minute. He knew something was different with her, but he wasn't going to push her on it. He was curious about one thing though. "That's good..." He paused for a moment, "so, are you seeing anyone?" He questioned while looking down and kicking a lone rock around.

(Y/N) was a little caught off guard by the question. She didn't know why he would be interested in if she's seeing someone or not. "Um... no." She responded simply as she looked back out at the view. There was no need to go into any other details.

"Well, those New Yorkers must be pretty crazy not to have swept you off your feet yet." Stiles stated honestly as he turned around to look back at the view as well.

Was that... is he flirting with me right now? (Y/N) thought to herself as his words replayed in her mind. She just laughed and brushed the comment off, not adding anything else to it. She couldn't allow herself to get caught up in Stiles Stilinski again. More than that, she couldn't allow herself to get hurt again... by anyone.

A silence fell between them again, but this time it wasn't as comfortable. (Y/N) hated that. Her and Stiles used to be able to talk about anything, and when they weren't talking, they could sit in a comfortable silence just enjoying the company. She hated that time had the power to change so many things that she once loved.

"So are you going to the charity lacrosse game tomorrow?" Stiles suddenly asked as he shoved his hands into his pockets.

(Y/N) shrugged her shoulders, "I don't know." She replied, not sure if she wanted to be pulled back into all of the memories of high school.

"Ahh... come on. I've been practicing." Stiles said with a mile-wide grin on his face.

She couldn't resist the laughter that escaped her mouth, "One, you don't practice. And two, even if you did practice, Stiles, there's no way you could beat a bunch of teenagers." She responded with a smirk.

Stiles feigned hurt, "are you calling me old? Man, that was a stab right in the heart." He joked, and she laughed and shook her head. "Seriously though, you should come. It'll be like old times. Me getting my ass kicked and you cheering me on in the stands." He tried to convince her, even bringing out his best puppy eyes and grin.

(Y/N) thought about it for a minute as she stared at his practically pleading face, "I'll think about it."

"Great. So that's a yes." He instantly perked up. "Hey, why don't I give you a ride there? That way you don't have to worry about a cab or whatever." He suggested.

"Stiles, I'll think about it doesn't mean yes." She stated.

"When it comes to you and me, it's always turned into a yes." He argued, and she wanted so badly to say that he was wrong, but he wasn't. She always had a weak spot for him, and it seems that that is one thing time hasn't changed.

So she didn't say anything, but rather checked the time on her watch, "I should get going." She stated before heading for the door.

"Wait, at least let me give you a ride home... or wherever you're staying?" Stiles offered generously.

Damn, he needs to stop doing that, she thought with a sigh. "Stiles..." She started, but he interrupted her.

"It's just a ride, (Y/N). I just want to make sure you get home safe." He clarified. "Plus, it'll probably be impossible to catch a cab if everyone else is leaving too."

(Y/N) contemplated her options, and ultimately the downsides of the cab outweighed the downsides of riding with Stiles. "Fine." She could already sense how this weekend was going to go... exactly how she didn't want it to go.

To be continued...
