Chapter 9: Let the Games Begin!

The Sports Festival is finally here! What will the preliminary rounds have in store for our young heroes? Enjoy!

The minute you arrived at your classroom, Blood King ordered your class to go get changed into your gym clothes.

"You can't use your hero costumes, because it could give you an unfair advantage. But you can use your shoes from your costumes if you wish." He said and you cheered to yourself inwardly. Your cheap sneakers paled in comparison to your sturdy combat boots so you were glad you could use them. "Once you've changed, go to the waiting rooms and wait for everything to start. Plus Ultra everybody, this is a huge day!"

"Yes sir!!"

You followed close behind Nejire, who chatted away cheerfully, her long blue hair swinging gracefully as she walked. Her talking was a nice distraction for your nerves. You hadn't expected to feel so nervous since you had felt completely fine yesterday.

"Anyway, I'm super pumped to see what they have in store for us. I at least want to make it to the battle tournament! Y/n? You ok?"

"H-Huh? Oh yeah, I'm fine...just wondering how this'll turn out." You replied, averting your eyes from her large ones. She smiled and nodded knowingly.

"It's ok to be nervous y/n. It's our first year after all!" She said, giving your shoulder a tight squeeze. You turned your head towards her, your eyes wide. "If anyone from our friend group has a chance of making it to the finals it's you!"

Her supportive words rang through your ears and you rushed forwards, enveloping her in a tight hug.

"Thank you Nejire!" you said. You felt her take a deep breath, and laugh loudly.

"No problem y/n. Let's do our best to both make it to the finals!"

...

After waiting a few minutes in the waiting rooms, your class was called out to the stadium. Nejire and Mirio led the class, while you and Tamaki followed close behind. The bright sunlight hit your eyes, and the first thing you were able to process was the noise of the huge crowd in the stadium.

Hordes of people were standing up and cheering for your class and you felt like it was all becoming real. Even though you had seen the festival every year on t.v. you never realized just how many people went to this thing.

Will I be able to do my best under all of these eyes? And not to mention him...

"Tamaki! This is crazy huh?" Mirio said, turning towards the both of you and smiling. "Y/n! This is the real deal! U.A.'s so crazy awesome right?"

"Y-Yeah that's one way to put it." you and Tamaki both said. You chuckled at him, glad that you weren't the only one who was nervous as hell.

"Well either way...there's no going back now," you said, mostly trying to comfort yourself even though Tamaki nodded his head at your words.

"THEY'RE NEWBIES AND HAVEN'T MADE MUCH OF A MARK BUT THEY'VE GOT FIGHTING SPIRIT!! CLASS 1-B FROM THE HERO COURSE!!" Present Mic's voice cried out from the announcing room he was in, and you flinched back at the added noise.

What a cruel introduction too, you thought with a frown. I'll show him fighting spirit!

He announced the rest of the classes, and your competitors: the support department, the general department, the business department, and Class 1-A from the hero course. You kept your eyes locked on that class, knowing that they probably had a few trick up their sleeves.

You saw Principal Nezu walk up to the stage, and you immediately started smiling. He was so cute!

"I usually oversee the senior class but I thought this would be a nice change of pace!" he said, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. "Now, I want the representative for the freshmen classes to come up here so we can get this Sports Festival started! The representative is...Kenta Kondo from Class 1-A!"

Countless people clapped as a tall boy walked up to the stage, his arms folded across his chest. People in your class whispered among themselves, saying how he had placed first in every test on the Entrance Exam. You remember seeing his name when you saw your score on the written portion of the exam, but you hadn't paid much mind to it. After all, he wasn't even your classmate.

He had messy black hair with one white strand contrasting in his curly hair, and bright blue eyes that narrowed slightly as he looked over at the crowd. His entire demeanor didn't seem that friendly, and you wondered what his quirk was.

He leaned forward so he was closer to the microphone his deep glare intensifying. "I don't like talking that much so I'll make this quick everyone. We're all competitors here, and anyone who thinks differently is just naive. We're all aiming for the top, so I hope this Sports Festival won't disappoint. Thanks."

"So cool!!" you heard several people remark, even though you were imagining what he looked like when he got annoyed. His cool exterior annoyed you very much!

I better keep an eye out for him...

The crowd cheered, and a large television screen illuminated the background behind Nezu. "Thank you, Kenta! Now onto the preliminary round choosing. What'll it be folks? What will the first game be?" You waited with bated breath and the screen finally displayed what the preliminary round would be.

MOCK BATTLE

The crowd went wild with cheers and Nezu gave them a cute wave to try and control them. "For this mock battle, we will have hundreds of robots for you all to defeat, and some pro heroes too!" Nezu said happily. Your mouth went dry when he said that. You all were going against some pros!?

"It will be more like a battlefield than anything else! Plus we will only have two exit points for you all to get through to make it to the next round... oh and this goes without saying but feel free to go all out with your quirks. Good luck!" Nezu said, gesturing to a large walkway out of the stadium. "Start!"

Everyone began running towards the exit, and you found yourself getting squished and thrown around by the crowd. Nejire grabbed your shoulders, steadying you and her at the same time.

"Push forwards y/n!" she ordered, and you complied. She led you past the crowd until you two were practically in the front. You had lost sight of Tamaki and Mirio but you didn't have time to think about them now. There were bigger obstacles ahead.

"Look out!!" you heard someone yell, just as something crashed near you and Nejire making you two fly backward along with countless other students.

It was a robot that was just like the ones you had faced during the Entrance Exams, except that it moving around erratically as it tried to attack the students.

It was complete pandemonium on the battlefield!

Students ran every which way, trying to avoid the large green robots and people were using their quirks to their full extent. Robots exploded which made the whole situation even more confusing.

"We gotta get past them!" Nejire shouted at you, and you nodded.

"Stay close to me Nejire! I'm gonna make a force field around us." you said, activating your quirk. Your force field surrounded her and you, and you two began to run quickly past the robots. They were attacking students left and right, effectively making a barrier so many students were trapped by the entrance.

You two almost made it past before you felt your quirk weaken and then completely stop working altogether. It was alarming for you and Nejire to just be out in the open in the middle of all of these aggressive robots, so you two stayed back to back and prepared to fight your way out.

"You'll have to use another attack strategy on me girls. I'm not just some clunky robot who'll be tricked by some nice force fields."

Oh no...

It was none other than the pro hero Eraserhead who was walking towards you two, his scarves already floating up near his head and his long black hair sticking straight up.

Damn it!

"I hope you two aren't that irrational. Let's make this a good fight."
