Chapter 15: Nejire's Clash

Hoooo boy it's time for Nejire to fight! She'll get to display her more serious side which I think is pretty fun to write, I mean she must be kind of serious based on how powerful she becomes in the manga. Enjoy!

As soon as you and Tamaki got back to your seats, you were bombarded with a flurry of questions from Mirio and Nejire.

"Y/N!! TAMAKI buddy!! How did it feel to fight out there huh? Was it as awesome as it looked cause it looked pretty damn awesome!" Mirio exclaimed with a smile.

"Yeah, you two were amazing! Tamaki that was a pretty large attack at the end...same with you y/n! That explosion! Man, that was cool to see!" Nejire said, getting behind you and draping her arms over your shoulders. She rested her chin on top of your head and promptly said, "My fight's next!"

"Oh really? Good luck Nejire. I know you can do it!" you said, sounding wearier than you had intended. "Sorry I can't help you more..."

"What the heck? I'm only here cause you helped me through everything...this is the only time where it'll be up to me. Nejire's goin' solo you guys!" She said. She removed her arms from you and smiled. "Just cheer me on ok?"

"Of course!" All three of you said. Nejire exited the stands while you three sat down to wait for her fight.

"Oh man! She didn't even tell us...who's she fighting?" You asked Miro and Tamaki, both of which shrugged.

"...Guess we'll find out." Tamaki said, his eyes dark eyes locked onto the arena.

A few minutes passed when suddenly Present Mic's shrieking voice reverberated throughout the stadium. "And introducing...the blue-haired underdog from Class 1-B! Nejire Hado!! VERSUS Class 1-A's dark horse...Kenta Kondo!!" The crowd cheered at the pair who walked up to the arena, but your body was completely frozen. Tamaki reached over, his warm hand brushing against yours, making you look up at him.

"It's ok y/n...she'll be fine," he said, his eyes softening at you for a moment before they looked over at the arena. You clutched his hand tightly, your heartbeat racing quickly. But you weren't sure if it was because of Tamaki holding your hand or Nejire's fight.

Nejire and Kenta both took their places, Nejire was shaking her hands out as she prepared for a real fight and you could only watch helplessly from the stands.

"READY!? START!!" Present Mic yelled. Just as he did, Kenta raised his arms and thin metal wires shot out from them, aiming right at Nejire.

Nejire took a few steps backward and dodged them, obviously wary about the out of bounds line, but she held her ground. Bright yellow waves shot out from her hands and propelled her high into the air, seemingly safe from Kenta's wires.

She stayed airborne for a while and the crowd oohed and awed at her. It was rare to have a quirk that could allow you to fly after all. But Kenta wouldn't let her go so easily.

He waved his arms and the wires extended towards Nejire. They wrapped tightly around her legs making her frown and grit her teeth. Kenta lowered his arms down quickly, slamming Nejire down on the concrete hard.

She managed to get up quickly but not before Kenta produced some more wires from his legs, ripping his gym suit in the process, and stabbed her in the shoulder. Nejire cried out in pain, and for once the crowd was completely silent as they watched the brutal scene. Kenta removed the wires from her shoulder, Nejire's body slumping over as she fell back to the ground.

"A-A hard attack from Kenta! How will Nejire escape those wires!?" Present Mic asked the audience, who was completely enthralled in the match. Nejire got up slowly and your stomach dropped in realization.

Kenta's wires were still wrapped around her legs even tighter than they had been! Nejire aimed a shock wave at Kenta, but it was too small and she was too far away from him to affect him. From what you could see he was grinning at her, so sure of his victory. But Nejire wasn't about to give him the satisfaction of an easy win!

His wires quickly started to wrap around her entire body, but before they could reach her arms she outstretched her palms, incredibly bright waves beginning to form.

"Take this!!" she roared, releasing the waves with a thundering boom. The sound of her attack shot through the entire stadium, and you could even feel your seat vibrating a bit from the force of it. You had to look away, it was so bright. Tamaki's grip on your hand tightened slightly since he was probably just as surprised about the sudden power of Nejire's attack as you were.

Nejire! That was much stronger than what she showed us during training!

The dust eventually cleared, Nejire had fallen to the ground most likely due to exhaustion. Kenta had somehow reacted quickly enough to form a huge metal shield in front of him, shielding him from Nejire's attack. His wires sure are sturdy...I wonder what their weakness is, you thought to yourself. Principal Nezu raised his small arm as if telling Kenta to stop using his quirk.

"....Nejire is down! Kenta is the winner!"

...

All three of you immediately went to Recovery Girl's office to see Nejire, and you were thinking about how bad she must be feeling right now. But when you all got to the office she was laughing and smiling with Recovery Girl, who was checking things off on a clipboard. Nejire turned her attention to you three stuck her tongue out.

"Hey, guys...guess I lost! But I got to meet Recovery Girl so there's that!" She said, grinning. "Why the long faces...Tamaki, I understand that that's your normal face but y/n and Mirio? It doesn't suit you two."

"S-Sorry Nejire...we just thought--" Mirio started to say, but lost his words.

"That I'd be sad?" Nejire questioned. He nodded his head and Nejire was silent for a moment. "Well, I'm not! I made it pretty far...I-I feel strangely proud of myself you know? Like I know I'll feel disappointed like maybe I could've won the whole thing...but right now I'm just content with what I did. I'm fine."

"Kenta's such an asshole though! I'll avenge you one way or another!" You said making Nejire chuckle.

"Nejire I-I'm glad you feel fine. It was a good fight." Tamaki said, his eyes meeting hers for a moment.

"Thanks!"

"Well, I think it's time for a group hug right?" Mirio said loudly. "I think the moment's right!"

"Yeah!" Nejire said, and you carefully leaned forward to wrap your arms around her. You were still wary of her shoulder wound though. Mirio joined in with a smile.

"C'mon Tamaki. A group hug might make you feel better too." you said to the black-haired boy who was standing off to the side of the bed. "Please?"

"O-Ok fine...just for a little bit though." he conceded, walking over to you three and then lazily draping his body over you and Nejire.

He's so close, you thought as you felt your heartbeat thunder in your ears. Can he hear that? Why's my heart doing that?
