Chapter 6: Awkward

Kathryn: I was walking down the street, which felt weird. I rarely walked anymore. I always had to get someplace quick. So it felt great to just walk. I hummed the song that had been stuck in my head all day. The song I had written with Harry. Today I was free of class until almost four, when I had my song writers group. So today was a good day.

I looked around. That's when I saw him. Although for the first time since I'd seen him again, he had his arm around a girl. A very pretty girl at that. She was of average height, hair that was thick and red falling down her back. She wore black skinny jeans I was certain I couldn't pull off, a high-end designer metallic jacket, and had a small hot pink purse that I knew if I wanted it I would have to spend the rest of my college loan on it. I should keep a good distance, I thought to myself. "Aww, screw it," I said, walking a little faster to catch up. Maybe I could give that little ginger a heart attack.

"Harry!" I called, waving my arm in the air as i ran. He stopped. "Hey," I said. The look on that little ginger's face was price less.

"Excuse me," the girl said, "But you are?" Wow, i thought, Sassy.

"Kathryn," I said, "Harry's friend." The girl raised her eye brows. "No strings attached, chill." I laughed.

"Do you know who I am?" she asked, putting her hands on her hips in a way that made me feel inferior.

" Um," I said.

"His girlfriend, Annaka O'Manna," she said.

"Oh?" I said, "Pleased to meet you." I stuck out my hand for her to shake it although she continued to stand with her hands on her hips. I bit my lip and pulled my hand back.

"So how long have you and Harry been together?" I tried to change the subject.

"Two years," Annaka said. She still had a look of angry disdain on her face.

"Wow," I said, "You put up with him that long?" I saw Harry roll his eyes. Annaka just stood there like an angry stalk of corn.

"Yes," she said. She didn't get the joke. I tried something new.

"Um, did he ever mention me?" I asked.

"No," Annaka said, "He failed to mention you."

"Well, I guess I'll be going," I said. Annaka faked a perky wave before turning on her hands and giving Harry a big make out session in the middle of the sidewalk. Jealous much? I thought. Then I walked away.
