Of Loose Sweaters and Tight Jeans

The thing to remember about Kylo Ren is that he's incredibly vulnerable. He never acts like he is, giving off a cold vibe, one that screams 'approach me and I'll snap your fucking neck.' Still, he does have his moments of vulnerabilities, which can be said of everyone. At this moment in our story, Kylo was feeling self-conscious about himself. He honestly had no reason to, but he did none the less.

He walked onto campus in a cotton candy pink skirt with a loose, matching cotton candy blue sweater. His stockings were white and again he wore his white tennis shoes. On his fingertips were freshly painted golden nails. He used pink eyeliner and lipgloss, but today felt the need to add gold glitter eyeshadow to his look. Atop his head was a gold crown of leaves. He didn't know what made him decide on this coordination, but he did look quite good.

No reason to be self-conscious, right? That's the thing, though. Sometimes, the people you look at that you think look amazing, people you might even be tempted to call perfect, can hate themselves or feel self-conscious of how they look. It doesn't matter what you say, they have this kind of view on themselves that makes it hard to overlook the flaws they see.

He finally finds Rey and sits down in front of the locker next to her. She gives him a concerned look, but he sighs defeatedly.

"It's one of those days, you know?" Rey nodded understandingly.

"Well, the glitter works, just so you know." He blew the stray strand of hair out of his face and mumbled out a 'thanks' half-heartedly. She shut her locker and sat down next to him.

"Do you wanna talk about it?" He shrugged. She nodded again. She managed to add a single braid to the side of his head and pin it in to stay before they had to part ways. Their parting was silent, nothing more than a simple wave goodbye. That was okay. Kylo walked slowly to his class, not overly concerned about being late. He and Hux crossed paths, as they seemed to be doing every morning nowadays.

"Hello, Pretty Boy, you seem grumpier than usual." Hux greeted in a happier tone, but it still held that edge of coldness that he couldn't seem to rid himself of. Kylo shrugged him off. Hux looked confused, but brushed it off as he watched Kylo aggressively march his way to class. It wasn't unusual, it just seemed a bit worse than usual. In a way, it was.

Kylo easily took his seat next to Poe, like every morning. Poe offered him a smile, like every morning. Kylo huffed and rolled his eyes, like every morning. Poe seemed to want to say something, but he was good at reading people (something Kylo has noticed) and kept his mouth shut.

By the time lunch break rolled around, Kylo was oozing 'get within two feet of me and I'll kill you.' He was sat with Rey, as per usual; though, this time they found themselves accompanied by Finn, Poe, and BB8. Though, it was more like just BB8. Finn and Poe were off in their own little world, not unusual for the pair.

BB8, or Brendon Benjamin VIII, was the adoptive brother of Poe. He was paralyzed from the waist down, but was incredibly optimistic about everything. His had a head of curly orange hair and dark brown eyes. His thin frame was sprinkled in freckles. He had a white t-shirt on today, his usual orange blanket covering his lap, and thick, black framed glasses. He was a freshman, super sweet to everyone. His voice was a little high, but it suited him. Besides Poe, Rey was his best friend.

They were about halfway through their lunch break when Hux, just Hux, approached them. Dressed in his usual tight jeans and trench coat, he offered a cocky smirk at Kylo.

"You don't appear to be any less upset than you were earlier." He teased playfully.

"Because I'm not. If anything, I'm more upset." Kylo grumbled.

"Why?" Hux asked.

"I don't even know!" Kylo exclaimed exasperatedly. Hux chuckled.

"That's problematic, isn't it?" He groaned. Rey looked between them, confused.

"When did you two get so chummy?" She asked. Kylo blushed, looking away with his childish pout.

"We didn't. I don't know why he's here." Hux shook his head.

"Come on, Pretty Boy, you know you like me here." His blushed darkened, but his pout also deepened. BB8 looked at Rey with confusion. Rey looked equally as confused. Hux ended up joining them for the rest of lunch, much to Kylo's dismay. If he kept this up, Kylo might make (another) stupid decision.

It was the evening time when Kylo got to approach his Uncle Artoo about the picture he'd seen his parents crying over the night prior.

"Uncle Artoo?" He asked softly. Artoo looked up from the book he was reading silently and offered a small smile.

"The blond boy in the picture there, who is he?" Artoo looked taken aback for a moment before taking a breath and relaxing into his chair.

"That's Luke, your uncle. He's your mother's twin brother." Kylo nodded, processing the information.

"What happened to him that his photo makes you so sad?" Artoo bit his lip.

"He ran away once he graduated high school. We haven't seen him since."

"Oh." A silence fell over them. It was a heavy silence that loomed above your head, made you think.

"Do you know where he went?" Artoo said nothing in return, appearing to have dozed off in his wheelchair. He always did fall asleep easily.
