"Just take those old records off the shelf
I'll sit and Just take those old records off the shelf

I like that old time rock'n' roll to 'em by myself
Today's music ain't got the same soul
I like that old time rock 'n' roll
Don't try to take me to a disco
You'll never even get me out on the floor
In ten minutes I'll be late for the door
I like that old time rock'n'-"

The music was shut off, leaving me in my odd kneeling position. "Hey what's the big idea?" I tried to force my bangs out of my face. "We're moving Delilah." I looked at my mother. "Yeah sure mum." I turned my music back on. Only for it to be shut off again. "I'm serious Delilah. And for heaven's sake, would it kill you to wear pants?" She shook her head walking out of the living room. "Sorry for having fun." I said slumping down on the carpet. And throwing my sunglasses on the coffee table.

How could we be moving, and them not tell me until now? I walked up the stairs and to my room changing into my clothes. Black half t-shirt (not a crop top) my stone washed overall pants and my black Reeboks.

"Delilah, are you ready?" My mother shouted from the end of the stairs. "Yeah I'm coming." I ran out of my room and down the stairs. "Delilah, what do you think you're wearing?" My mother's face contained disapproval. She doesn't get today's trends.

"Today's... trend." I slowly winced waiting for her bark. "You have 5 minutes to get back up there and change your clothes before, so help me I do it myself. And you would not want me to do it myself." I think I look fine. "Yes mom." This isn't the first time this has happened.

I have to dress like I'm going to Sunday school. I don't even go to church. Ugh, I just wish for, one, my father to pay more attention to me. And two, for my mother to lay off. Like geez man, I'm 16 years old, I can pretty much take care of myself now. I mean i can make mac and cheese. (This isn't the 90s but think of Delilah wearing clothes Cher would. I'm sorry)

I slowly make my way down the stairs again. "Is this better?" I say sarcastically. "It'll do. At least it's better than what you were wearing before." I smile. "We're going to the mall, you need more clothes and so do I. Get your stuff and I'll be waiting outside." My mother turned and walked to the kitchen. I ran upstairs and grabbed my small backpack. I came back down stairs and ran outside to my mother's light blue, 1972 Cadillac Sedan de Ville (License to Drive). "Aren't we supposed to be packing?" I asked. "Don't be silly honey, everything's all ready packed. It's just your room now. They should be done by the time we get back." "So we're leaving tomorrow? " I was a bit confused. I mean "Yes." My mother pulled out of the garage and stopped at the gate. "Where are we going to move to exactly?" I looked at her, my forehead scrunched and brows furrowed. "Don't do that you'll cause wrinkles. And Your father got a better work offer in ________(Pick the location)." She drove away from the gates and down the street full of stuck up rich white people. "So until we find another house we'll be living with your aunt Kit and uncle Gus." Aunt? Uncle? I don't remember having an aunt, or an uncle. Especially from my father's side. "Oh, does she have any kids?" I was an only child so another kid was amazing. Even though I'm like 15 years old. It gets lonely at the 'Blue Paradise '. That's what we called our house. It was a huge mansion painted baby blue and contained mostly of vintage, fragile, and expensive stuff. "I believe she has a good for nothing dead beat son named Bobbie." Uh, ok calm down old woman, I almost said aloud. "Ok, what school am I going to?" "I don't know what the bloody name of the school is called. Some trashy public school." She nearly hit a car in frustration. "Mother calm down." I was rubbing her shoulder as the light turned red. "I just don't want you to turn into those trashy whores. Or even worse a druggy." She looked at me horrified. "Next thing I know you'll be sleeping with girls and guys. Oh lord." My mother hand fanned herself until the light turned green. "So until we find a nice private school. You'll be going to a putrid public school." I tried to act sad. I couldn't I had never in my entire life set foot in a public school campus. I was very excited. We parked in the mall parking lot. "Here is some money, go buy your clothes. Nothing trashy, always classy. Remember that. " She yelled after me. I didn't listen I was very excited. I did a little dance as I walked into the mall doors.
