A Strange Mind...

Toriel was so confused and had to clarify his story.

"So let me get this straight, you had a talk with Mettaton, and asked him nicely to stop dating your brother, and he did?" and all Sans did in response was shrug, Toriel felt she wasn't getting the full story.

"Yep, while we were walking home pap was like-"

...

Sans's P.O.V.

"IT WAS SO STRANGE SANS," Papyrus conveyed. We both were walking home from Grillby's, having 'coincidentally' bumped into each other. I had my hands huddled in my pocket while Papyrus marched on and told me what transpired at their date, although I already knew the details I just kept smiling at myself in glee, and when he told me the events on what happened. Afterward, I let my soul relax.

"AND WHEN HE CAME BACK, HE JUST APOLOGIZED TO ME AND THEN LEFT, DIDN'T EVEN ASK FOR ANOTHER DATE " He pouted with a disappointed frown. I could tell by the way he sounds, and without looking at him as we walked, that Papyrus was disappointed.

"Aw...That's too bad," I commented smoothly. I was in a good mood, which was a nice change, considering how my mood was before.

"AND HE WAS ACTING MOST STARTLED..." Papyrus added with a suspicious tone, as he held his chin in thought. I quickly decided to change the subject.

"Hey, it's not every day someone dates a movie star," I pointed out as I elbowed him encouragingly. "That's pretty amazing," I commented with an impressed tone.

Papyrus's face lit up to my words and proudly agreed.

"INDEED!" he pronounced. "A ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY WHICH NO DOUBT IMPROVED MY IMAGE!" he confidently stated.

I shut my eyesockets, exhausted. 'I never thought I would lose my cool to my brother having his first kiss.'

I sighed in relief. However, when I glanced at my brother, I noticed him staring at me.

It had caught me off guard at first, but then my brother asked me a strange question from out of the blue, and it started like this:

"SANS?" Papyrus called calmly, while in deep thought.

"Yeah, pap?" it came out a little bit mixed between suspicious and nervous.

"JUST CURIOUS, BUT HAVE YOU BEEN IN A ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP BEFORE?"

I froze up.

I stopped dead in my tracks while trying to wrap my head around why my brother was asking me this.

I searched for my brother's face, and he had this innocent expression of pure curiosity, so I decided to answer honestly.

"No..., why do you ask?" I spoke suspiciously.

"So it's as I feared," he muttered, whispering to himself, which made me confused.

"THAT MEANS YOU HAVE NO DATING EXPERIENCE," he concludes with a hand to his chin, he was no longer facing me as we continued our walk.

"I JUST KINDA ASSUMED YOU'VE BEEN ON MORE DATES THAN I HAVE," Papyrus explained to me, and that made me even more confused.

'was he expecting me to have a lover?' but the more I thought about it, the more it made my skull spin in confusion.

"Why? You know I'm not the romantic type like you," I pointed out quite bluntly with a sheepish grin.

"NOT TO MENTION LAZY," he added.

"yep." I agreed, lazily closing my eye sockets.

"SO YOU'VE GOT NO EXPERIENCE WHEN IT COMES TO LOVE?" Papyrus tried again.

"Nope," I replied.

"THEN..." he paused. "WHAT DO YOU ASSUME LOVE IS?" he asked. I opened my eye sockets and let myself think about it.

'you mean other than Level of Violence?'

"Well..." I started, I unravel my left hand from my coat and start rubbing the back of my neck nostalgically.

"I can assume it must feel nice," I state quite plainly, but I noticed my brother looking at me curiously.

"NICE?" Papyrus repeated me, puzzled.

"To love someone else," I simplify. "But you've got to be very committed to stuff like that to have that kind of relationship..."

I turned to Papyrus to see he was engrossed in my explanation, I gave him a slanted lazy grin and added: "it sounds like a lot of work if you ask me." I complained lightly.

Papyrus had perked up to protest immediately.

"YOU HAVE BEEN MISSING OUT SANS!" The tall skeleton says excitedly.

"LOVE IS A WONDERFUL FEELING THEN JUST NICE, AND THE DATES ARE FUN!" Papyrus expresses enthusiastically.

Then, my brother rushed a short distance in front of me before stopping and directing his finger toward the ceiling to pronounce suddenly, and very loudly: "ONCE YOU MEET THE ONE, I'LL TELL YOU ALL THE ADVICE YOU'LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL!" and with that promise he then turns around to me, in what looked to me to be, eyes filled with admiration and determination.

"Pap..." I called out. I slowly make my way toward his side.

"You...don't have to do that," I tell him honestly "Anyway, I'm pretty sure nobody wants to date this sack of bones," I say, pointing at myself in dismay.

But regardless, my brother continued to encourage me while patting my shoulder in a reassuring gesture.

"NOT TO WORRY BROTHER! YOU HAVE ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD TO FIND THEM!"

"sure," I respond.

"AND I SHALL SUPPORT YOU ALL THE WAY!" he added.

"you're so cool," I complimented smoothly.

"INDEED I AM!" he agreed wholesomely and marched off ahead.

Then, a thought blossomed in my mind without even noticing, because it just came so naturally.

'But why would I want anyone other than you?'

At the time, It hadn't even registered to me how odd that thought was, and I didn't bother to dwell on it when I heard Papyrus suddenly stop walking again, he seemed fidgety about something despite his back facing me.

"Um..." he mumbled. "You're cool too, sans," he spoke with a small voice, which is different than his usual loud booming one.

That complement caught me by surprise, along with the pitch, and my face became overwhelmed in a soothing coolness that enveloped and colored my cheeks in cyan blue.

I swiftly recovered before my brother turned to noticed my reaction.

"Nah..." I disagreed. "You're cooler."

I couldn't see my brother's face. So, I couldn't see his expression, but he sounded relieved and proud to hear my response.

"TRULY SAID, BROTHER!" he proudly called back.

It wasn't long before more thoughts like that one became common.

But then.

I started to notice how my odd innocent thoughts had possessive undertones overtime.

It suddenly came to me that I may be developing feelings for Papyrus. That would explain my actions involved with my brother and my struggles with his past relationships.

However, I wasn't entirely convinced.

...

"So after that, I became hyper-aware of everything Papyrus does, not only that but paid close attention to his appearance..." Sans took a sigh before continuing "Needless to say I regret making that costume for Papyrus" he added uncomfortably

Toriel just plainly nodded, deep in thought. 'He must have had this on his mind for a while, and makes me wonder if he's spoken with this to someone other then myself...'

"Sans" Toriel calls out, to which sans lifts his gaze to her.

"Have you told this to anyone else, you know, other than me." The goat monster asks.

Sans then scratches his skull in thought and then responded in a raspy dazed sigh.

"I remember telling Grillby..."

...

"Grillby, I have a serious problem," Sans sputtered as he was lounged upon the counter in his stool while holding a half-empty glass wine bottle, his face flushed. Grillby looked at Sans uncomfortably from across the bar counter as he tried to keep his focus on cleaning and polishing wine glasses and silverware.

Yep, he's drunk.

Usually, Sans would be drinking ketchup whenever he came to the bar. Unfortunately, today he mistook the wine bottle on the counter for a ketchup bottle, so now Grillby was stuck with a blubbering drunk sans until the wine bottle became empty and sans could go home.

"I mean, I think I'm just overprotective, but lately Pap's been going on dates, and I feel very uncomfortable about his relationships," Sans explained. Despite him being intoxicated, you would expect him to slur more. However, he had only drunk half of the bottle, so he was one would say semi-sober.

At first, Grillby thought to remain silent, but seeing that Sans wouldn't stop rambling, he decided to just roll with it.

"how long has this been going on for?" Grillby asked in his usual husky, deep tone

"Um... I think for about a week now," Sans guessed. "I mean, it's not the first time he's dated someone, but..." Sans added as he set the wine bottle aside, but then he stood up straight in his stool with a concerned expression on his face.

"He's too innocent," Sans said bluntly. "But I know he's old enough to date whoever he wants."

Grillby hummed in thought as Sans continues expressing his concerns.

"Maybe you have separation anxiety," Grillby suggested, interrupting sans of his rambling.

"...Maybe" the skeleton muttered as he laid his head down upon the counter in a defeated way, but all too soon, his hand makes a swipe for the wine bottle and starts chugging it down his nonexistent throat. Grillby just stood there in silence.

It was after it was empty, that Sans left it on the counter, and leaped off his stool. The skeleton had stumbled upon landing but luckily didn't lose his balance.

Now, with his senses drowned and intoxicated, the next coherent thought was to teleport home.

He made his way outside, where his left eye flashed cyan and was gone before anyone saw he'd disappeared.

...

When Sans arrived at his front door, he made his entry as loud as possible. So when he got inside, he slammed the door behind him.

He found his brother sitting on the couch watching M.T.V. like always, and it was then that the hiccups started to set in. So, when Papyrus turned his attention toward his brother, he instantly knew sans was drunk. However, despite this, he asked anyway.

"SANS?" Papyrus called out.

"yes -hick- pap?" Sans responded with a dazed smile.

"YOUR DRUNK, AREN'T YOU?"

"maybe."

All of a sudden, Sans couldn't hold his weight anymore and fell flat onto their carpet. Papyrus just let out a frustrated sigh before searching for the remote.

"What -hick- gave it away?" Sans asked, laying on his belly, and his limbs spread out.

"SANS, THE MOMENT YOU WALKED IN I COULD SMELL THE ALCOHOL FROM YOU, YOU STINK" Papyrus pointed out like it had been obvious, as he extended his arm and turned off the Television.

And Sans just stared at his brother for a moment before blurting out a question.

"Huh...Hey! -hick- pap, do you -hick- do you -hick- believe in soulmates?" Sans finally got out.

"WHAT?" Papyrus asked puzzled, which seems like he doesn't even know what soulmates are.

"Did you -hick- know that Soulmates are -hick- bound together -hick- and will always -hick- be together, it's just a simple -hick- swapping of magic -hick- it's marking them -hick- as yours -hick- forever -hick- however theses days -hick- it's kinda rare..." Sans suddenly lost his train of thought when Papyrus looked slightly flushed in the face

"WHY ARE YOU EXPLAINING THIS ALL OF THE SUDDEN?" Papyrus asked, flustered.

'Yeah, why am I telling you this?' Sans thought, somewhat confused himself.

"I don't know -hick- Just sounds nice," sans claimed. Sans lifted his head, blushing a very bone-chilling blue hue.

"I mean, if you ever get into a relationship, I'll help you -hick- support you, I'll make sure you're the happiest with them -hick- sound good?" Sans explained solemnly

Papyrus just stared down at sans with wide eyes sans was offering advice and support to him. Papyrus began to perk up with a heartwarming smile.

"I'll make sure your the happiest too," the taller brother promised in his unusually small caring voice.

Sans suddenly felt so tired, and he started to doze off with his response: "good."

Papyrus got up from the couch and lifted sans on his back, giving him a piggyback ride.

"DO NOT FEAR BROTHER BECAUSE I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, SHALL CARRY YOU SAFELY TO YOUR ROOM!" Papyrus announced wholeheartedly.

However, drowsy sans began muttering weird questions on their way up the stairs.

"Hey pap... -hick- tell me about love, I mean you've been on dates before, so what's it feel like?" sans slurred in asking.

"WHAT?" Papyrus's eyes widened in surprise. One could say he wasn't expecting a question like that from his brother of all monsters, seeing that his brother wasn't interested in dating before.

Yet despite it all, Papyrus honestly didn't know how to explain it, because he can't say he's fell in love before. True, he's been asked out on dates before, but that's just it. Usually, Papyrus was the one getting asked out to go on dates. Needless to say, after those few dates, he didn't feel fluttering butterflies in his stomach (but he assumed it was because he didn't have one.) or that heart-throbbing emotion that the dating rule book described. Papyrus felt respected, cared for, and loved by others, but not exactly the other way around.

"WELL, TO BE HONEST, SANS, I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT IT," Papyrus said, scratching his chin with one finger sheepishly.

The book said something about 'complex feelings' like you could relax and feel comfortable around them, but it also said something relating to change in body temperature.

Papyrus had tried very hard to feel these emotions, but alas, they seem to have cleverly evaded him.

He felt just the same fondness and friendship around Frisk, and he felt the same admiration around Mettaton.

It made frustrated him and made him question what love is supposed to feel.

"That's ok, Pap..." Sans murmured, lingering between consciousness and sleep as his chin rested on his brother's shoulder, Papyrus had finally arrived in front of Sans's bedroom.

Papyrus opened the door but stopped dead as he stared into the darkness that shrouded Sans's room, the only light came through the doorway in which Papyrus stood. It seemed so cold and gloomy like nobody's been here for a long time, almost hard to believe someone lives in this room. It was still it's organized mess sans claimed it to be.

Ever so slowly, with each step, he approached Sans's disheveled bed.

Papyrus was very uncomfortable leaving his brother in his room because, on multiple occasions, he would be awakened by screaming from Sans's room and finding him tossing and turning within a nightmare. Sans still refuses to talk to him about the night terrors.

"Love you, bro," Sans spoke as his consciousness slipped into a deep sleep, Papyrus ever so carefully leaned sans off his back and into the bed, he then tucked him in with the comfy blanket that laid nearby at the end of the bed and slipped a pillow under his brother's head.

Papyrus stared at sans as he slept seeking any signs of discomfort, sans always looked so tired.

Papyrus, after having found Sans was sleeping quite soundly, silently left the room, and he smiled to himself, satisfied. Papyrus made his way across the hallway that looked out to the first floor, passing the staircase, and turned to the door on his right.

"Seriously, what would you do without a cool brother like me?" Papyrus sighed under his breath before retreating to his room.
