Day 23 - Quirkless Deku

Midoriya woke up. A strange feeling was settling in his gut. He felt empty. He felt incomplete.

He felt like the person he once was.

A quirkless Deku.

Panicking, he tried to use One For All. Midoriya could feel it, he could feel it simmering under his skin. The only thing was -

something was blocking it. And that only meant one thing, Midoriya realized.

He was quirkless once again.

Quickly picking up his phone, he texted All Might:

SmallMight: All Might?

AllMight: I AM HERE! What is it, Young Midoriya?

SmallMight: I can't use One for All today!

AllMight: What? Why?

SmallMight: It's not like I don't have it, it's just that I can't use it.

AllMight: This is concerning, at least there's no hero training today. Do you want the day off?

SmallMight: NO! I want to show everyone quirkless doesn't mean useless!

AllMight: Alright, but if you get in danger, I'm taking you out of it.

SmallMight: Okay All Might. Goodbye!

AllMight: Goodbye Young Midoriya!

As Midoriya turned off his phone, he shouted, "I AM NOT IN ANY SORT OF DANGER! AND NO I DO NOT HAVE A QUIRK THAT MAKES ME LIE. I'LL PROVE IT TO YOU BY SAYING ALL MIGHT IS AWESOME!!"

"OKAY MIDORIYA!" Midoriya heard Dark Shadow yell back.

Chuckling softly, Midoriya put on his uniform and then went to brush his teeth. After that, he went downstairs with his bag to see Aizawa standing by the doorway.

"Hey, Aizawa-sensei's here!" Kirishima pointed and everyone looked at the teacher.

"Why is Aizawa-sensei here?" Uraraka thought and Todoroki had taken out a notebook and a pencil.

"Midoriya? Please come with me," Aizawa waved Midoriya over. He followed Aizawa out of the dorms, leaving many confused classmates behind. Todoroki stared at the retreating backs of Midoriya and Aizawa and shouted, "I might have been looking in the wrong direction! Hitoshi, are you secret love children of - "

"We are not brothers and I told you," Hitoshi explained like he was explaining to a five-year-old, "Aizawa-sensei is not my father and neither is Midoriya All Might's."

"Hmm...." Todoroki stared at Hitoshi before writing something down in his notebook.

-------------------

"What do you need, Aizawa-sensei?" Midoriya looked at his tired teacher, who sighed and said, "I have heard from All Might that you can not use your quirk."

Midoriya nodded.

"So I will make sure that you remember that you cannot use it - "

"With no disrespect Aizawa-sensei," Midoriya interrupted, "but I'm a late bloomer and I know how it is to not have a quirk."

"...When did you get your quirk?"

"Huh?"

"You heard me, Problem Child," Aizawa said, "when did you get your quirk."

"...."

"Speak louder, Problem Child."

"The day of the entrance exam."

Aizawa stared at him for several moments, making Midoriya twiddle his thumbs. After a long and silent pause, Aizawa sighed and said, "Why didn't you tell me?"

"Eh?"

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"Well, I thought that I could learn it by myse - "

"I would've taught you a different way! Midoriya," Midoriya looked up when he heard Aizawa use his actual name. "I thought that you had it for your entire life, not just a few days," Aizawa explained, exasperated.

"Aizawa-sensei?"

"Yes, Problem Child?"

"I - I want to prove to everyone that quirkless doesn't mean useless!"

Aizawa grinned and Midoriya could sense chaos coming. As they reached the classroom, Aizawa said, "And so do I."

Aizawa and Midoriya went over their plan and as they got further into it, Midoriya was grinning as wildly as Aizawa.

Class 1a wouldn't know what hit them.

Meanwhile, Nezu was cackling in his office.

-------------------

"Why do you think Midoriya had to go to class early?" Kaminari wondered as the nineteen students went to class.

"I have no idea, but I am sure that Aizawa-sensei had a reasonable explanation for his actions!" Iida declared and Kaminari chuckled awkwardly.

"Well, you can't help but wonder," Sato pointed out and Uraraka nodded.

"WHO THE FUCK CARES ABOUT THE SHITTY NERD?!"

"He'll explain it to us when we get there - " Hitoshi casually opened the door to reveal Aizawa grinning.

"Take your seats."

They sat down in their seats and Aizawa watched them shuffle in them.

"We're doing a project. A project on the quirkless."

Bakugou stiffened.

"I want all of you to write at least two pages of notes on the subject and talk about it in front of the class after lunch." Aizawa went into his sleeping bag and said, "You can use your phones and computers. You do not have to work together, but you can work in groups of three or less." He then fell asleep. The class burst into discussion.

"This should be interesting," Midoriya thought as he wrote down his speech.

-------------------

"What did you guys think of our assignment?" Uraraka asked and Asui keroed.

"I think it's rather interesting to do it. After all, they are in our population."

Iida nodded and said his opinion of it. "It's important as heroes to make sure that they don't get in the way or have any problems because of their status."

"Midoriya, what do you think?" Todoroki turned to Midoriya, who was clenching his chopsticks tightly.

"Oh? Yes, it's nice to see them in our curriculum," Midoriya managed to get out. Todoroki, satisfied with his answer, turned away.

So they think the quirkless need protecting?

Midoriya would give them that and more.

-------------------

"Alright, time for your speeches. Yaoyorozu, you may go first."

Momo walked up to the front and gave her speech. "Well, the quirkless make up 20% of the population, but most of them are elderly. They are decreasing in number, making hero work a bit easier. However, they are delicate, which can be proven through the suicide rates shown in the article by the new anonymous author - "

Midoriya grit his teeth. His article was not for this purpose!

As his classmates came up one by one, Midoriya's speech changed rapidly. What was supposed to be a light explanation became a rather harsh speech. Surprisingly, Bakugou was acceptable, at least, by his standards. Hitoshi and Todoroki were right behind him.

"And finally, Midoriya, please come up."

Midoriya stood up and went to the front of the class.

"I've got to say, based on all your speeches, you'd have to think that the quirkless are some topic that you just need to do to pass. That they don't concern you," his eyes scanned the classroom and the class shivered under his gaze.

His emerald eyes were acidic and his stare made them want to shiver in their seats.

"Some say they are delicate," his eyes went to Momo, "absolute rubbish. They've had to suffer abuse, bullying, and the world was against them. It's because of society that they had to resort to suicide! It's because of this thinking that made them want to die. It's because of all our messed up ways and thoughts on them that made them want to disappear! We never accepted them as our own, but we might as well think of them as a different species!"

"Want to know how I know this?"

The class nodded and his eyes went wide, his smile feral. "I LIVED THROUGH IT!"

"How?" Mina asked and Midoriya chuckled. "I was a late bloomer. I didn't get my quirk until the day of the entrance exam."

"What? So the first time you used it - " Iida started. Uraraka finished his sentence. "Was when you saved me."

The class looked at the two before looking back at the (scary) Midoriya. "Yep. And let me tell you this. By statistics, if you were all quirkless, only two people would be alive and kicking. The others would have commited suicide. Wanna know why?"

They nodded.

"IF YOU WERE QUIRKLESS, THE TEACHERS WOULD IGNORE YOU! IF YOU WERE QUIRKLESS, YOU COULD BE BEATEN AND BULLIED IN FRONT OF THEM AND THEY WOULDN'T CARE! YOU COULD BE JUST SITTING THERE AND THEY'D GIVE YOU DETENTION! IF SOMEONE DREW ON YOUR DESK AND TOLD YOU TO KILL YOURSELF, ALL THE TEACHER WOULD SAY IS TO CLEAN IT UP AND NOT BE MESSY AND THEY'D GIVE YOU MORE DETENTION! IF YOU GOT A GREAT GRADE, THEY'D SABATOGE IT! After all, the quirkless were supposed to be stupid. Uneducated. Less evolved." Some flinched at the last sentence.

"And why is that? We didn't ask to be like this," his voice was dangerously soft. "We wanted a quirk, we wanted to be accepted, we wanted to be able to have friends. People evaded us like a disease, we were diagnosed," he practically spat out the word, "like we were sick. Tell me, what did we do to deserve this?"

Midoriya looked at Aizawa, who nodded. "Today, I'm going to be debunking the myths and showing you guys the truth."

Midoriya picked up a piece of chalk and the rest of the day was spent up by Midoriya teaching his class what it was like to be quirkless.

+++++++++++++++++++++++

I'm very sorry, I had to get it out. I've been bullied before and sometimes it gave me nightmares. I looked up to the bullies and they'd make me think that I wasn't supposed to be who I really was. It was really frustrating and I tried to resolve it, but the teachers would dismiss it as teasing. I ended up having to move and go to a different school, but I sometimes get upset really easily.

At least I can't blush.

So I'm very sorry if this upset anyone. Thank you very much for all your support.
