Forever - Steve Rogers

We will be together forever.

You made the promise the day you and Steve confessed your love for each other.

"I'm so sorry. I'm sorry I'm breaking our promise to each other. I'm sorry I'm leaving," you managed to croak out. Steve looked at you with wide, teary eyes. His jaw clenching and unclenching. Your breathing was getting unsteady. You didn't have that much time.

"No, don't say that please," Steve whispered desperately. He held you tighter and closer to himself. One of his hands were behind your head, holding it up while the other put pressure on your wound. The bullet was lodged into your torso, just over your abdomen.

You coughed violently, the metallic taste of blood in your mouth.

Steve watched you breath shakily, fighting for your life. He felt useless. He was useless. All he could do was wait until the backup came and took you to the Quinjet to fix you up.

Then came the thought of losing you. His wife. His everything. What would his life be without you?

Then came despair at the thought of breaking this news to your twins. Anthony James Rogers and Nathan Samuel Rogers. What would they do without you?

"Steve, tell---tell the boys their mama loved them. I---I love you, too. I love you."

He looked down at you with tears rolling down his cheeks. You smiled sadly at him, raising your hand to his cheek.

"I love you. Remember that, yeah? I want---I want you to be happy. I need you to be happy. Please remember that I love you." He leaned down and gave you a peck on the lips.

"Stop talking like that, please," he pleaded, making his grip on you tighter and pressing his forehead to yours. "I love you too much. Too much that I can't live without you." He let out a shaky breath as you stroked his cheek with your thumb.

"It's okay. It's going to be okay," you whispered before pecking his lips for the last time, breaking the promise you made to him.

We will be together forever.
