Prologue

Present

Here I was, standing in front of somebody who I knew I wanted to spend every minute of every day for the foreseeable future with. I stare into their deep blue eyes which I could easily fall into forever if they let me. There was a couple of problems I thought to myself as the person standing opposite me places their arms around my neck to pull me even closer. First of all I never intended to full in love and second of all I never intended to fall in love in particular with her. She was my best friends little sister. When me and best friend Luke were old enough to climb trees she was playing in a sand pit. And when me and Luke were sneaking into bars and drinking alcohol she was appearing in her drama clubs production of the wizard of Oz as Dorothy. It’s not like a 3 year age gap should matter she was 18 now and I was 21. Age is irrelevant when you leave high school. But that age difference made a huge difference when you are a senior and you didn’t want to be seen with a freshman. There was also another problem, I never intended to fall in love with a girl. I thought I knew who I was, I had even dated her brother Luke for a few months back in Junior year until we decided we were better as friends. It took one night for me to look at Sam with unclouded eyes and to look at her like she was looking at me now. I watch as her lips form 5 little words I never imagined I would hear.
    “I love you Ivy Matthews.”
