Chapter 32

(Y/N POV)
A couple days had passed since River and I's time together and we hadn't spent a second away without one another, and I loved it. He'd spend the night in my room, eat all meals with another, train together, just basically any everyday thing you could think of we did together. But what was odd is that every time I would see Bellamy he would stop whatever he was doing to just stare intensely at me. We even made eye contact a few times and when we did I got the feeling he knew more about me then he was letting on. Overlooking whatever was going on with Bellamy life was overall pretty perfect well that is until both River and I were called into Lexa's room. The only time she's had people in her quarters is when she needed to deliver bad news without interrupts.

Standing in front of Lexa's room with my hand intertwined with River's I place a soft knock on her door, scared of what was to come. Not even a minute later the door swings open revealing a guard and farther into the room Lexa standing on her balcony. In spite of my anxiety eating away at my insides I composed myself, gracefully walking in with River beside me. I think River sensed my uneasiness because he gave my hand a light squeeze before letting go considering Lexa wasn't yet aware of our 'relationship'.

"You may leave now." Lexa orders the guard without even turning around to face us, continuing to stare out at the city.

"To start this all off I know you guys are dating or whatever you call what's going on between you two. There's no need to hide it anymore," It wasn't that we were hiding it but more of not caring to talk to be about it, "The next thing I want to discuss with you two is a little more serious." As she says this I subconsciously take hold of Rivers hand again. Even though she wasn't facing us you could tell she took a deep breath before speaking again.

"I've been informed that Azgeda is planning to attack the sky people in rebellion against the treaty we're trying to develop with the sky people. They're also trying to recruit other clans, so far they haven't gotten anyone but the way things are looking that could change very quickly. With lots a thinking I came to a decision that would help both our people and theirs." Lexa explains and by the tone of her voice I can already predict that what she's about to say is going to be hard on all of us.

"The leaders of each clan proposed a plan to me, I don't like it one bit and Y/n if you're not up for it we can figure something else out but this is the best option as of right now." Lexa continues still not getting to the point.

"Lexa stop stalling and tell us what you're talking about." I demand as my anxiety rises by each passing second.

"The plan consists of you, Y/n, revealing your identity to Bellamy and going with him to the sky people where you will stay for a while and help protect them. You won't be totally alone a few of our best warriors will also be sent, same with our fastest rider in the chances there is a threat I will know as soon as possible." Just as Lexa was about to start explaining the rest of the plan River cut her off before she could.

"I'm going with her." He states as if it weren't up for debate.

"No River you are not. The plan requires you to stay here and help train the unprepared. You going with Y/n will not only distract her but if the sky people get even a whiff of a romantic relation with one of their former people and a grounder things could get ugly really fast." Lexa finishes whilst finally looking at us for the first time since we've entered. I can only imagine the amount of shock and contemplation that was shown on my face. River was filled with more confusion and anger than anything else, still he stayed silent not wanting to upset nor disrespect Lexa.

"But like I said before if either or you aren't comfortable with this we can think of something else but right now it looks as if it might be our only option." Lexa repeats, making it clear if we weren't up for the task we wouldn't have to do it.

But no matter how big my desire was to not go through with the plan I knew deep down it didn't matter because if it was going to help my people against Azgeda then there was no debate about it.

"We'll do it." I declare not even bothering to consult with River first because I knew he's against the idea but it needed to be done, not only for our peoples protection but for them to see I'm fit to become the commander when and if the day comes. I could tell me agreeing to Lexa's plan struck a nerve with River because out of the corner of my eye I saw him send a quick glare my way.

"Then in that case, Y/n, you leave at nightfall just be at the stables by then. I'll set everything else up. You may go bid your goodbyes now." She finishes giving me a small smile and a hug before going over to her desk.

Showing myself out of her room I basically have to drag River along with me since he seemed to be lost in thought, most likely about the situation we just got pulled into. The moment we exit her room and the doors close behind us River instantly envelops me in a warm embrace. I only get to snuggle into his shoulder for a slip second before he pulls away with an angry look on his face, I guess he wasn't over me agreeing to Lexa for both of us.

"What the fuck, Y/n. Why'd you agree to that half assed plan?" He asks grabbing lightly onto both my shoulders, not in an abusive way, no, it was like a "are you fucking insane" way.

"River I'll be fine I think I can handle myself. We're doing this to keep our people safe. I'll be back before you even know it." I reassure him, hoping that we wouldn't spend the rest of this day arguing.

"I know you can take care of yourself but that won't stop me from worrying about you every second of everyday. But have you even thought this through? I mean come on now, you're going to be back in the camp you ran away from and not to mention with Bellamy of all people." River said Bellamys name as if it were acid burning the inside of his throat, and what did he mean by "Bellamy of all people?" I guess he saw the confused look on my face because I think it made him realize what he just said, the expression held on his face was like what a person who wasn't supposed to say something would have.

"Want to explain to me what you meant by the last part or not?" I ask.

"I've known for awhile he's the one who cheated on you. It was only a little suspicion at first but then I started putting two and two together." He admits and I can tell by his furrowed eyebrows that the topic of Bellamy pisses him off to no extent.

"Look the decisions been made and I'll figure everything regarding the sky people and Bellamy along the way. I assure you I'll be fine and so will you." I explain to him whilst placing a small kiss on his lips which seems to work in relaxing him.

"Now let's make the rest of the day count." I announce while taking his hand in mine and running down the hall, pulling him along behind me. We used the remaining time we had together to pretty much do whatever we pleased. He first took me into town where we had lunch and took a nice hand in hand stroll where we both pushed aside the fact of me leaving tonight, then for dinner he had a picnic set up in my favorite part of the woods, and before we knew it the sun was setting meaning I needed to get some of my stuff packed quick and meet at the stables on time. I didn't even have anytime to say goodbye to anyone else, I mean it wasn't that big of deal I guess since I wasn't leaving for good but still.

"Okay I've got 4 changes of clothes, my armour, my sword, a bow and some arrows, my dagger, a blanket, and some food." I list off while stuffing stuff into my satchel type bag whilst River sits on my bed watching me every move. He insisted he "help" me pack but when he said help I didn't know he meant sit on my bed and do nothing.

"What else am I forgetting?" I question whilst throwing my head back out of irritation.

"This." River answers which causes me to turn my attention to him since he didn't specify what "this" is. My gaze falls onto River holding up my cat by under her two front legs causing the rest of her body to just hang in the air. I would have laughed at the sight in any other situation but my upcoming leave was beginning to take a toll on me.

I gently take Rosie in my arms and try to make space in my bag for her to travel in, not having much luck I took out a pair of clothes which caused enough space for her to open up. Luckily she's a well behaved cat so I wasn't to worried about her jumping out and running off. River sensed my lack of serotonin, resulting in him getting up and giving me a home like hug from behind. He somehow always knows what to do to make me feel better.

"I regret saying yes to this plan, River. I really don't want to go." I confess turning around to stare into his big hazel eyes.

"I know but you were right. It's the best thing for our people and it's not like you'll be gone forever." He says, now becoming the reassurer and me now the one in need of reassuring.

"But what if everyone hates me now?" As those words leave my mouth I can also feel a fear stray tears leaving the rims of my eyes.

"Y/n, they won't, I promise you that. No one could hate you even if they tried." He comforts while wiping the streams the tears left off my face.

"I hate to say this but you should get going if you don't want to be late. I'll walk with you to the stables and stay as long as you want me to, but the last thing we need is Lexa getting onto your ass about being tardy." He says with a sad smile in which I return with a peck on the cheek before grabbing me bag that held not only all the items I would need but my cat also. Interlinking my arm with his I take one last look at my room that I wouldn't be in for a good while before heading off in the direction of the stables.

By the time we had arrived at the stables everyone including Bellamy was already there which only meant it would be a matter of minutes before we left. Luckily Bellamy was distracted by a horse he hadn't yet seen me or River enter which was good because, one I wasn't really ready for him to know my identity if he didn't already, and two I wanted to use this little amount of time I had left to see River. We both go over to my horse, Eria, and begin preparing her for the journey ahead. I had littler time then I thought because one of the people coming announced we'd be leaving in less then a minute. Everyone around my jumped onto their horse which sent me into a frenzy of panic since I never got to bid River a proper goodbye. Rushing over to him I jump into his arms and before he even realizes what's going on my lips crash into his resulting in a sloppy yet passionate kiss to form.

Our need for air caused both of us to eventually pull away from one another and see that everyone including the still distracted Bellamy was ready to go. I could tell tears starting forming in my eyes because my vision all of a sudden got cloudy. At this moment I knew if I didn't leave now I would start balling my eyes out and that was one of the many things I didn't need today. Jumping onto Eria with my satchel and sleeping cat I leaned down pressing one final kiss onto Rivers lips before leading the group out of the stables.

Little did I know Bellamy wasn't distracted at all, instead he was paying attention the whole time.
